In the event that you haven’t found a good resource yet.. I would highly recommend ‘the First Hebrew Primer: Third edition’ published by EKS. I can’t say enough good things about it. I am not very good at learning languages, but this book has helped me so much with Hebrew! Hope your studies go well.

Why doesn't an abbreviation for the Aleppo Codex appear in the list of abbreviations of the Bible Hebraica Stuttgartensia? Don't you consider the variants of the Aleppo Codex? If so, it would attract my attention, because the Aleppo code is of great importance, as much or more as that of Leningrad; or maybe it appears under another name and that's why I haven't noticed it. I would appreciate your help with this question. Excellent video.

Thank you very much for explaining the BHS. I have discussed with my friend about new version, the BHQ. BHS have put the text into all one book, but as of know BHQ is being published as individual books. Will BHQ be published as one book? My friend and I think that BHQ will probably not be published as one whole book.

That is a good question. You maybe correct that it will not be published in one whole book because it will larger, because of the apparatus. I hope that it will be.

The JPS Hebrew-English Tanakh includes the BHS text with a good English translation. But it doesn’t include the Masorah or the critical apparatus. Consider learning Hebrew. It’s not as challenging as people think!

Thanks for this William. I've been using the term Septuagint as it's used colloquially, that is, for the entire Greek translation. A term such as the "Old Greek translation" is more accurate. Keep an eye out for this term in future videos.

For a newbeer like me a Hebrew bible without wovel signs under the letters is completely worthless !!! I like the Mazoretic notes though.

I do not buy your claim that ancient Israel had two legitimate gods, HaSham and Baal. Perhaps there were Israelite communities that served Baal, but knew that they had rejected the Tora. They gave names from Baal to their children. Many of these rebellious Israelites repented, and changed their names from Baal to Boshet, to confess their sinful past. Shaul was about 60 when he became King. A lot can happen in 60 years. I think King Shaul was a Baal Teshuva. Later generations did not want to admit that such a prestigeous individual had in the past been so impious.

This is an insightful comment Jhonny. The Aleppo Codex was first made available to the public in the 1970s, the same time the BHS was being published. The next version, BHQ (Quinta), includes Aleppo. It has a symbol M with a small A, meaning Masoretic manuscript Aleppo. BHQ will also include much more of the Dead Sea Scrolls, which were not fully public in the 1970s.
