Ugh day 2 has rarely ever been successful for me :( I know I’m not supposed to wash my hair every day but can’t seem to find a way around it
@sara23824 жыл бұрын
Damp styling gives me a lot of spring and more curl as well, but day two is much worse, than when I wet style. I also can't refresh. Even though I don't have low porosity hair, if I put even a touch more product or conditioner onto my day 2+ hair it feels gunky. My favorite way to "refresh" is just to wet my hands and smooth them very gently over my hair, praying hands style. It tamps down the frizz and brings the gel back to life a touch and really helps without doing much at all. I also sometimes just carefully brush it out! My waves look nice that way too.

Thank you so much!!😊

So glad you tried damp styling! I have 2B/2C fine hair and damp styling gives me more volume and curl as well as shortens my drying time. That’s a win-win for me. Your hair looks great here... but it always looks great no matter what method you use! When I started the cgm I had to fully rewet every day to look decent. Now a 1 1/2 years later, I don’t do anything but take my hair out of the pineapple and fluff it. My day 2 &3 hair looks better to me than day 1 because I prefer volume to definition. I don’t usually refresh until day 4 (if i make it to day 4 hair). That refresh definitely gets the waves to spring back up but I do see a lot of frizz too which is why I don’t refresh unless I absolutely need it.

I havent figured out day 2 refreshing very well yet. My hair looks frizzy and usually feels gross if I try to add anything to it like putting a little leave in and water on my hands and smoothing and scrunching. I have just recently gotten to routinely washing every other day. If it doesnt look ok without adding to it on day two or if I do try to fix it, I try not to care how it looks too much. I agree with you, instead of completely rewetting, I'd rather just wash it again.
@sugoiharris13484 жыл бұрын
Maybe in 6 months you found what works, but in case someone else is struggling to. I found that I have the best day 2 and 3 hair is when i make my own refresh spray. I mix leave-in, curl defining cream, and a bit of gel to hot water and shake until its all mixed. I use it when its cool and make enough for a while. My hair turns out great when I do that.

Day 2 has been huge problem. It looks like an out of control frizzy mess even after pineappling. Wetting and adding more product seems to make it worse and have been looking for a solution.
@amym.59604 жыл бұрын
Me, too! The best solution I've found so far is a dry mousse refresh with Pantene Curls Mousse. (I got the idea originally from Wavy Curly Chronicles.) I usually detangle the waves first so they're pretty loose that day but they look so much better and it only takes two minutes! (I detangle/brush, divide my hair down the middle, glaze about a golf ball sized amount of mousse onto each half of my hair, scrunch, then SOTC when dry since it'll be a little damp from the mousse.) @SwavyCurlyCourtney I'd love to see more videos on that and/or other refresh options since a lot of us struggle with refreshing!

I like to take a small bowl, fill with water and dip the ends/midshafts in it. If you wet the ends completely down like that, it kind of resets them to the "seaweed hair" phase ..... then you can restyle the ends just like washday, but without having to completely do the ENTIRE washday situation.

@@amandawilson890 oooooo this sounds interesting! I’m thinking of trying this! I’m a wavy that likes the volume and the undefined look of day two and three (up to day 6) better than day one. My hair is super thin and fine and day two tends to make it look fuller. I tend to plan my wash days when an event is coming up so I have day two hair that day. My hair has a hard time absorbing the styling products when damp styling. They tend to sit on top and make it weighed down. Might could work with lighter products. I’ll have to try. Thanks again Courtney!

My best results on second day and beyond as a wavy is when I take a wide tooth comb or pick and lightly comb it back like I’m putting it in a half up half down style but then just let it fall and settle for about 20 min or so. The volume is crazy good and the waves & some soft curls form. Granted I am more of a 2b on top so this may not work for tighter top wavies or curlies. Minor refreshes around my face and back of my head sometimes when it gets too stretched out. Works for me now that my hair had gotten healthier after a year of cgm.

I've always done this method of damp styling. I never do a day 2 refresh mainly because my hair looks better after I've slept with it up in a pineapple but with a couple of the front curls gently finger curled and pinned up. I then just go with and accept what my hair does. In fact if I get good definition I usually end up gently combing and brushing my hair to get the frizz to lay down on day 4 or 5 and I can make it a whole week this way. Brushing makes my curls more loose but with my layers and cut it looks intentional and it looks like I styled it that way. I am getting to the point of just being able to work with my hair each day. I use product. I use oil that really moisturizes and I'm even willing to curl a few strands if need be. I'm doing what I need to to feel good and keep my hair looking styled no matter what the CGM says to do or not to do. It's liberating and it's not hurting my hair. It's prolonging my time between wash days and it's less time consuming overall.

One of the reasons that I started the sudo CGM is because I was getting tired of fighting with my hair! My day 1 hair always looks different than day 2, which looks different than day 3, etc! Sometimes I refresh on 2nd and 3rd days, especially if I plan on going somewhere. Usually, I do prefer my day 1 look, but I am learning to embrace all the different looks my hair presents!! Sometimes I have to clip up a piece or 2, because that 1 oe 2 pieces either want to be straight, or they want to stick out all wonky!! So I work with it -- certainly simplifying my hair styles! My hair and scalp have gotten very dry as I've gotten older. Prior to CGM, I kept my hair straight or slightly wavy. I used no leave in products, nor did I add products other than Chi oil. Because of that, I only washed my hair about every 2 weeks [sometimes even 3 weeks]! Now I really need to wash every 4 days. If it's getting on to day 5, the tangles are so bad that my head hurts!! So I actually have to "wash" more with CGM than before, but now I use a lot of leave in products than attract dirt and promotes tangles!! I do co-wash a lot now, and I really like it! When I was younger, and had oily scalp and hair, I don't think it would have worked as well!!

I recently started damp styling and it has become my go to method for good results. I've been cg for almost 3 years and haven't had results this consistent to date. The only difference is I don't plop, I just scrunch my wet clumps with a flour sack towel before scrunching in stylers. You might try this with some other more "structured" stylers for lack of a better word. I find that the Inahsi custard is kind of a strange product. It can leave me stringy and greasy in the wrong conditions. As for day 2, I can sometimes get it with this method. Wet styling I almost never got it. If some areas are stretched out a tiny bit of water and styler seems to help bring them back. I will say the Dyson is making a HUGE difference. It takes 15 minutes to get my hair dry, versus 45 with the Manli 😳. But I'll admit it gets VERY hot towards the end and I have to switch to the no heat setting.

It seems like the best solution so far, not sure if you've got any other ideas!

I'm on, I guess, the high end of wavy? I'm somewhere between 2C and 3A, but I've always had a rough time restyling on day two. Sometimes the universe decides it'll be a good refresh day, but usually if I try to refresh it just looks stringy and dirtier than it actually is. I've found that the problem comes from two things. After a few hours on wash day, my hair will start losing its curl and kind of wilt as you described. Then the other problem is when I go to bed, no matter what kind of protective cap or scarf I use I'll still get massive amounts of frizz the next morning. So given those two things, it's already a losing battle trying to refresh after all that and I end up just not bothering to refresh.
@pilotgal354 жыл бұрын
Gwendolyn Dodge so you seem to have the same problem as me. What do you do then on day 2?
@Wingsofscarlet4 жыл бұрын
@@pilotgal35 Since I rarely leave the house (at home spouse) I can kinda just leave it messy without having to worry about it. If I need to leave the house the next day I'll first let it rest for 30 minutes after taking my hair out of whatever I slept in, usually a silk scarf, before doing anything. That usually helps take care of the poofiness and lets the curls find their pattern again. After that, I'll just take a small amount of leave-in conditioner with some water and rub it through my hands, then gently praying hands down my hair to smooth down the left-over frizz. Not a lot of water, just enough to make the conditioner a little runnier. If I add too much water then it frizzes even more. I try not to smoosh my hair down too much or else it'll just tangle up. I'm just trying to evenly lay the conditioner over the top and underneath my hair to add some moisture and smooth out the frizz. I won't have as much volume and my curls will be less defined but at least it looks presentable enough to leave the house. It ends up looking like I used a wide barrel curling iron on the ends of my hair.

By the time I have halfway decent hair out of a refresh I’ve spent as much time as I would have on a full wash for worse results. I usually roll with day 2 as a loose wave and the only refresh I do is to smooth it with my hands like some people smooth out the crunch. It seems like it would be a bad idea and stretch out the waves, but what I have left on day 2 is the way my hair likes to be and it’s not going to be influenced by some petting. 😂 Day 3 and 4 are more problematic just due to my current length. I would rather stay low effort and basically just let it go straight with a curl at the tips, but the left side likes to curl out while the right side curls in, like I’m caught in an ocean wave. 🌊 🌊 When it was longer the hair laying on my shoulders encouraged it all to turn out, so my current goal is to grow it back to that length so that I can be as lazy as possible.

My hair has always looked better in my opinion on day 2-3 no matter how i style it... if i straighten it, scrunch it, or wand curl it. I've just always preferred my slightly dirty texture. I have dry hair, so I usually wash every 5-7 days...

Day 2 hair usually translates as half hair up and half hair down. Day 3 it’s all in a bun!

When I wash my hair it takes a long time to fully absorb water. My 1st shampoo attempt, my hair absorbs the shampoo & I get no slip or lather. It's as if I applied no shampoo. I then rinse that out & apply shampoo again. And now my hair is happy & the shampoos & conditioners work. I've always wondered why this happened. Glad to know it happens to others.

What I used to do on day 2 was use hot rollers; a big no -no now! But even with my previous non -curly -girl -method methods my wavy hair had great definition on day 1; thanks for the validation; was wondering why refreshing didn’t do much for my wavy hair. I’m still trying to find the best products as my hair is fine and wavy so some are too heavy; some make it sticky; some don’t give great definition. It’s trial and error of the expensive sort 😂

I like day 2 best more defined could be because I do sort of a twisted bun under my night cap

Yeah I haven't had a lot of success with day 2 refreshing. I tend to find that if I put too much product in, my hair just goes frizzy and feels very weighed down.

I'm a wavy, and can't really refresh with a lot of water. I find if I use a tiny bit of leave in conditioner and just wet my hands to distribute the product it helps tame the frizz, without getting too crazy. I really liked my 2 day hair, but it is really big and wild, it's not super defined.

Sometimes for me, day 2 hair, and even day 3 hair is better than day 1, when I damp my hair and add product, or simply dampening it and scrunching it reactivating the product already there. But I have to diffuse it each day. I have hair very very very similar to Courtney’s.

I wonder if your results would be different if you damp styled with a different product maybe mousse?

I have a hard time with refreshing. My hair looks totally better on day one. I sleep in a pineapple but it looks stringy when i let it down. I've tried wet and dry refresh. I don't like wet because it makes my roots feel really greasy!! I'm still trying to figure out refreshing because I can't just let it go as my hair is frizzy and wonky curls. I also don't want to have to wash it every day. I can go three days without washing, although on the third day my hair has to be put up cuz of greasy roots. My hair is low porosity, 2b and c curls, fine, meduim density. I do damp styling but I don't put my hair up in my towel. I just wash, condish, leave in on soaking wet hair, mini plop and take out a lot of water and then add my curl cream, mousse and gel. I tried wet styling and my hair wasn't very wavy or curly??? Not sure if i used enough product on my wet hair? Any help would be appreciated.

What cleanser do you like the best? I use Wen cleansing conditioner. I have super dry hair. I use a light weight gel. Oh and I deep condition every month. I’m wondering if I need to use a different cleanser?
@phyllism76454 жыл бұрын
I found that when I do a co-wash if I do a small amount of it first, rinse, then go in with a regular amount of co-wash, I get a better cleanse with it. If I go in just once, I use way to much and my hair never feels clean and it goes flat, greasy, and gross faster.

Thanks for trying this out! Definitely going to try this myself now. :) As for refreshes, I'm 3 months in with 2A/2B hair (and you have helped me SO MUCH along the way!! I can't tell you how many times the first 5-6 weeks that I reminded myself of your "Get stubborn!" advice; that helped, too) and yeah, day 2-3 is just not the same! I gave up on wet refreshes the second month, finally tried again yesterday, and it was not bad. My best day 2 results actually come from a simple dry mousse refresh. It looks pretty good but it is WAY less wavy than wash day.

New 61 yo cg. Hormones, I think. Day 2 doesn’t look as pretty as day 1. I’d rather just wash it again; it takes about the same amount of time. Would you consider a Cantu wash day or refresh routine? Love all your videos...and the make up one was just what I was looking for.

I'm a wavy who's hair looks so much better the second and third day of refreshing. More curl, more volume and easier styling.I enjoy a more defined look that has volume.

I cannot stay upside down that long! I have balance issues. My hair is thicker and coarse and I need the extra moisture from having very wet hair when applying my styling products. Have you ever tried Uncle Funky’s Daughter Curl Stimulator gel? Thanks

I can't find a good method to use when sleeping with my curly hair. I always have to fix it (wet it down) in the morning. I have chin/shoulder length hair with many layers. I've tried Medusa clipping, wrapping it in a silk scarf, etc. My hair has too many layers to use the pineapple method. Any suggestions on how to sleep with curly hair would be greatly appreciated.

The only thing I have ever found that works even a little is a satin cap. I still have to refresh in the morning but it isn't nearly the Wash Day 2.0 I get using other methods.

When I damp style, I style as normal, then wait until my hair is about 50% dry and re-style and flat or frizzy pieces with more product and a little bit of water on my have to emulsify.
@martynaaaaaaajl4 жыл бұрын
maybe damp styling is for me. when I do soaking wet styling my hair goes flat so fast. I think the water is just too heavy. and I've never had a good day 2 since I started my hair journey in march 2020 (now end of july 2020)
