I have problems with stringy hair, too. I am 63 years old and two years ago I discovered the CGM. For years I had been commenting to the hair stylists when I went to get haircuts that I had curly hair, as evidenced by every strand of hair was making a curl, but they were all going their own way, giving me just long fuzz for hair. “If only I could get them to talk to each other and agree to go in the same directions together with the ones around them, I bet I’d have curly hair,” I told a number of hairdressers. Did anyone tell me about the CGM? No! I think it was a KZbin video where I discovered it. My best day in all of my two years was probably last Wednesday, when I did my hair in the shower, diffused it dry, then got caught in the rain. My hair just sat in place while I was at the dentist for an hour, then got a bit damp going back to my car. It was dry again by the time I got to another stop, but then I got a bit damp going in to the next building again. By the time I got home, I had some frizz, but I also had beautiful, natural spiral curls all around my head. They were too stretched out , so still looked mostly like waves, but I had a few that looked like those sausage curls that orthodox Jewish men wear on either side of their hatted heads. Next was, I tried mousse. I think I used too much and got crispy and stringy! Watching this video helped me. I see that I need to always be pushing my hair back, not letting it do a parting when wet. I may try damp styling, too. I have been trying many tricks lately, as I am trying to get a nice looking style I would want to wear out of the house before I give up and go get six inches cut off. I am beginning to think that my curls are not sturdy enough to be long. Maybe I need hair just above my shoulders to get a good look. One thing I thought was helping me was to put my leave-in and curl cream in during the shower, very wet. Then I scrunch to form waves and when I have big clumps, I put on my plastic bonnet and finish my shower, letting the waves rest all wet. Then I plopped in a smooth microfiber towel for 15 minutes, applied gel (or mousse), did some micro-plopping, and diffused. So, I let my waves set wet, then put my final product in at the damp stage. Have you tried this? Your hair seems to behave a lot like mine. This was the technique I used on that rainy day. I am going to explore the rest of your hair videos. I am glad I found you!

Thank you for such a lovely comment! I'm at a point where I'm torn if I should keep growing my hair or cut it because the length lately seems to pull my waves out really easily 😅 That routine you mention I believe I have tried before but I think when I did I used too much mousse 😂

2b/2c wavy here! I like using a mousse when I damp style. I find it really helps you feel when you've got enough product in your hair.

@@wavygirljessie I have learned soooo much in 1 week! I’ve figured out I am 2b low porosity, medium density hair :) And the porosity makes a HUGE dif bc I can not use products that some ppl love. Bc I figured out protein seems to make my hair react as if I put bleach on it.

I've been experimenting with damp, but so far I prefer wet. I feel like I get bigger, loopier curls with wet whereas with damp I get skinnier and tighter ringlets.. which actually gives me less volume. I definitely have to use a brush regardless, like you do, to get smoothness.

I always apply products to damp hair because it gives me the best results! I've tried to style in soaking wet hair but it just doesn't work for me. Beautiful results!

Have you ever tried doing a combo of both, adding styler to soaking wet then adding some more to damp hair? That's usually what my typical routine looks like 😊 and thank you!

I just cut 4 inches off my hair, it's now about the same length as yours. I also just bought a 7 row Denman and I can't really see a big difference in my hair when I use it. I'm thinking of trying some new routines and this video came at a great time since today is wash day!! So I'm going to give damp styling a try today.

@@wavygirljessie pretty good. I'm still learning my denman brush and it's humid and thunderstorming today but I was pleased with the outcome. Still a learning curve but I felt like it was easier to style my hair not dripping wet with the denman brush.

I had a stringy day yesterday. Day two now. Need to refresh later. I have really long hair and longer layers, but same hairtype. 2b-2c. Can I use a gel then a layer of foam mousse, followed up by another glaze layer of gel? Some days I've gotten perfect clumped spirals, but lately they're stringy. I switch between Not Your Mother's and Maui Moisture brands. Also, I started using the Tangle Teezer wet detangling brush, but I bought the one rhat says it's ideal for 3c-4c curls. Thinking maybe it's too tight or firm. Not only has it ripped out chunks of my hair(detangling is always difficult) but also, I used it to distribute my products so I'm thinking maybe it's causing the stringy look instead of wider clumped spirals.🤷🏻‍♀️ Guess I need to use my wet brush and my wide toothed shower cimb for stylers. Also thinking of returning the Tangle Teezer. Probably opt for a different version. Any suggestions? Thank you💙

Hi Jesse! Sorry for this late post but was wondering if I could ask your opinion on the following. I like this method of styling very much, I comb through my leave-in on wet hair and scrunch really well. Then I wrap my hair loosely for just about 5 minutes ( I don't like plopping 😉) before applying my gel. I am just wondering if the leave-in really gets absorbed into my hair okay and if it's not getting pulled off by my t-shirt when I wrap my hair? Is it just water coming off? Sorry for this long post but this has been bothering me!😊
@wavygirljessie

Hey! Thanks for commenting 😍 You'll probably find that the towel could be absorbing a bit of the leave in, but it probably is mostly water content as your hair hair has probably already had chance to absorb the majority of the product before you get round to applying the towel 😊

I learned a lot. But some of the terms are over my head. I’ve never worn my hair wavy- and fixed. I just had lazy days I didn’t fix it.. so my whole life I have struggled w keeping it straight. On day one of the cgm. Hair looks a lot more curtly than I expected. I don’t know how to diffuse so I went to bed w damp hair & woke up w a crazy part, dry frizzies, & some straighter pieces. I messed w it so much it ended up not so great... No clumps at all. I’ve never heard of wet styling. How do I do that without a mess? Or how do I damp style & not use too much product? How do I know there’s enough? And do I have to have a leave in conditioner?

Hi! Thanks for pointing that out, I hadn't realised that maybe some of the terminology I was using could be confusing. If you're ever sure what something means don't hesitate to ask, I'd be happy to help :) My very first video on KZbin I share how I diffuse my hair, my diffusing routine is still pretty much the same now so that you aren't going to be with wet hair. Wet styling - when you add your products to soaking wet hair, I usually do this when I'm still in the shower to prevent making a mess in the bathroom. Over time you will get used to your hair and knowing how much product is a good amount for your hair as it's different for everyone You don't HAVE to have a leave in conditioner, but if you find your hair getting frizzier and drier as you wait for your next washday a leave in may help.
