Blaine is one of the most respected plastering schools on KZbin.. he's open to suggestion on a lot of the work he does and as with all plastering we're always learning.. give the guy a break and check out all of the videos he's done I've been plastering for 30 years and some of the tips he's got are still pretty good. he's one of the best plasterers out there.

You can skim hard wall soon as it’s set, the skimming goes in better as it’s still full of moisture. Next day it pulls it straight in. I’ve just checked online for installation guide…there’s a link, doesn’t give a time to skim.

If the wall has not dried out correctly the finish can crack and sometimes de-bond

float&set is same day...when using bonding you can start skimming in about 1 hour after you've finished ruling etc.......when using hardwall, usually you lay in the morning and after a cup of tea/lunch(around lunch time) you skim the areas...It's been done and is being done this way to this day, to my knowledge! whoever does it the next day, is not on price or is not really efficient! ohhh and it all depends on the background and suction! have a good one!

It didn’t need the second coat of hard wall,he could have nail floated it ready for skimming. He shouldn’t of floated over paint, would of been better using gyp liner

Interested to know what product you would have used. You said correctly that hardwall technically shouldn't be used over paint or SBR, only on bare brick/block. But you didn't really come back to it. I guess technically it should have been grind the paint off and hardwall it or SBR it then bonding. But sounds like you agreed with this lad's method of just using hardwall and SBR for an easy life

I get what you’re saying and I used to do this too but I’m pointing out mis information . Adding up the time I believe it was skimmed the next day, he also says British Gypsum recommend skimming after 3-4 hours so I checked on the white book and it’s actually 48 hours.

Well everyone to their own I’m saying what is taught and has been for centuries, the reason was when you worked in gangs , 2 would start on either wall and go round so they didn’t bump into each other or get in each others way. Brickies have similar systems for walls. It was taught in colleges and to apprentices but some didn’t go to college and started off just as labourers.

Thick as castle doors some people, below is the correct times . The recommended drying time for Thistle Hardwall before skimming with finish plaster, as per the British Gypsum White Book, is typically 48 hours. However, it's crucial to consider environmental conditions like temperature and humidity, as they can affect drying times. Always follow the specific guidelines provided in the product documentation for accurate information.
