Hi Sam I started watching your videos yesterday because a damp surveyor/plasterer mentioned your channel. 2 men came to my house to inspect what I thought was rising damp, wet wallpaper, flaking paint and a rotting skirting board spread around on the ground floor of my property. As I have just had a new kitchen and living room he recommended I leave it because he didn't want to wreck what looks nice but recommended to repair the walls on small room leading from my kitchen. They showed me where I had to repair outside where water is penetrating the property. I've got a modest terrace with a modest budget. Very honest man who didn't take the full surveyors fee because it's a domestic job. Great channel by the way, thank you for all the great advice.

Yes but just remember all property needs maintanance through its life even the new ones.

So is that rubber wiring on one side and plastic on the other? Someone I knew some years ago had the house "rewired" and that is what they did, no way to tell until years later.

Found a few like this when I was a spark. Also connectors in ceiling to old cable, and a foot of new cable into light fitting. When people said that "their" spark could rewire a house in a day, this was often how they could achieve this.

Had something very similar whilst removing plaster for damp treatment, buried junction boxes and wires heading off in all directions!! Old DIY Electrics do make me laugh 🙄🤣😂

Hi there, these are very informative thank you. We have an issue with damp and mould on a retaining wall on ground floor. The quote for two walls, about 6m long in total came back at 14k. They quoted to apply a seal and tanking slurry, and renovation plaster. Does the quote sound ok to you? If yes I think we may need to do it ourselves 🙈

Is that £1k per linear meter? If it’s mould I would get a second opinion.

Hi Simon, great videos! We got a quote ok £2k for installing a damproof coarse into an old stone house we’re buying. It’s not bad enough that we can’t move in so we’ll be waiting until spring to do it. I’m wondering if it’s something I could learn to do and save the £2k as we could really use the cash. I’m handy and have done bits with a builder helping knock two stone houses into one. Just wondering about warranties if I do it if we come to sell the house. Could I go on a course to do it? Hi Bryan, Thanks for getting in touch. The first thing you need to do is get the correct diagnosis of the damp issue. Not all damp is rising. Once you know what your dealing with you can then look at applying the correct system, Always use a competent surveyor to diagnose what you have, free is not always best. Peter Cox may come out for free so as they are nation wide could be worth getting a quote off them for the specific area. Hope this helps

Hi, if you go on the Property Care Association (PCA) website you can do a postcode search for your nearest qualified surveyor and damp company

Hi Sam I messaged you a year or so ago I am now doing the work I've got a 1904 house the slate course looks good but still going to use dryzone cream now I used to blackjack the wall before dotting and dabbing you said not to but to use SBR or PVA is SBR best

Without knowing the full details of the property and actually diagnosing it myself I would not rely on a conversation on the channel. You need to make sure the issue is diagnosed correctly by a qualified surveyor before you start work..
