Roger done a follow up video on this on KZbin. It was really interesting. The home owner carried on the trench round the side of the house and found the down pipe from the gutter was not connected to anything. This meant the rainwater from the roof was the cause of the excess moisture under the house

@@petersparshot4997 You are missing some points. The laughing emoji's are the first clue. Roger doesn't actually give any wrong advice in this video It was this video and some others, aired over the last few months, that resulted in Damp Sam being invited to go on the Skill Builder channel to give his advice in the first place, as Roger posts these kind of vids in the hope of getting the advice of specialists.

Interesting your comment about dehumidifiers. Totally agree. People think that because they have a bucket full of water they are drying the room. The only way they are really effective is if you seal the room for days and vent the water to the outside. I lived in Gloucester for a long time so have a fair bit of experience with flooded houses.

No one on these videos ever talks about the porosity of the bricks in their walls and if it makes a difference. In my opinion it does, my last house was built from poor quality bricks and the district had a high water table, this made it much harder to keep the place dry.

Thats a good point Jim, the majority of the time water will find its easiest path which is usually the mortar course but if the mortar is more dense than the brick this could happen.

Sam, Anyway to send you a photo to get your opinion. It’s probably to someone as knowledgeable as yourself a straight forward answer as to what the solid grey hard lumps on the brick work are. Thanks
