The thing you need to understand about Dan Bilzerian is other poker players don't buy his story of winning $400 million in poker. He's not that good at poker. The actual best players in the world, the ones who have been wrecking the game for decades, have winnings in the tens of millions, not hundreds of millions. Also, the poker pro's all know each other because there aren't that many different places to play super high stakes poker. And they all say that they never saw Dan around that much in the poker scene. Dan tries to cover for the obvious lie that his money came from poker by claiming that he won it all in private home games. Shady guys in poker who can't explain where their money comes from would have you believe that there are these "private games" in LA that only they know about, where you can win 50-100 mil in one session. Illegal private games do exist and Dan used to go to the famous LA one that the movie Molly's Game is about. But you ain't winning no $400 mil from games like that.

You know what the real difference is: Asmongold could probably pay 50k for a bedframe and 60k for a Star Wars something set. Or 5 million for a Mansion. But he doesn't. He just sits at his Desk and streams for us, day in and day out, being entertaining. Then he goes and buys a cheeseburger and a coke and goes back to streaming Wow classic.

There are socalled 'model houses' in LA which basically hires and rents out girls to people like Dan, night clubs etc; this is not as nefarious as it sounds, its not an escort thing, its literally just for PR. Their job is to hang out and look pretty, fora night club this is done to attract more clients since guys will go where the girls are, for people like Dan their purpose is to give him clout. Meanwhile the girls get to live the insta dream life. But the point is that its all fake.

I love the story about him suing whoever made The Lone Survivor movie. Apparently he paid them $1 million to have like 8 minutes of screen time and a few speaking lines (I can't remember the exact amount of lines or words he was supposed to have). They ended up cutting his time down to around a minute and he got one line. I'm sure there could be a thousand reasons why they cut most of him out of the movie but I choose to believe he was just so freaking terrible that they used as little footage as possible of him to try and somewhat fulfill their contract with him. He couldn't manage to play a Navy Seal that had almost no lines even though he went through actual Seal training and nearly made it through (This is a whole other story I'd love to know more about also. Supposedly he made it through almost 2 years of Seal training and was dropped 2 days before graduating because of some sort of safety violation).

Trends and fads come and go very quickly, sometimes it's hard to keep up. Basically it got overused (essp by the wrong type of people) and basically made the term "alpha" and "beta" a joke. Also idk if this is widespread knowledge, but the entire alpha/beta thing is completely false, the dude that came out with the study has tried to say it the study was flawed and the findings are false, but the ones who care don't use the term, the ones that do don't care. He legit went to some famous gym along with an army of photographers, 2-3 half naked supermodels that hugged him all the time for photos, the man NEVER made a complement to Martins and looked straight up embarrassed when Licis was lifting x4 the weight he did with little effort, making him not the centre of attention . . I have to stick up for watches and watch wearers. I design, build, and restore my own watches. The history behind how every design detail in watches has evolved is amazing to me. Brushed vs polished cases, crown sizes, bezel utility, etc. Don’t even get me started on the intricacies of the movements and mechanical engineering that goes into creating these masterpieces. Even to this day we are still improving on mechanical timekeeping. As a fashion item it completes an outfit. Cherry on top. Every morning I choose, set, and wind my watch. This ritual connects me with the watch and I recognize it as my memento mori (my reminder that my time is limited and to make the most of every second). Lastly, wearing a watch for me is about removing the potential distraction of my phone. So often just “checking the time” on a phone can lead to opening it to check social media apps and then mindlessly scrolling. Being able to check the time on my wrist while avoiding phone interaction is important to me. Not to mention, in a social setting (like at a dinner or something) getting your phone out to check the time will be seen as far more rude than making a quick glance (that most won’t even notice) at a wrist watch to check the time. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

@@I3uzzKillinton With $200-$500 automatic/mechanical watches, you are usually either getting a Seiko (NHx), a Citizen (Miyotaxxx) movement, a Seagull (usually if its a mechanical chronograph), or a clone or slightly modded version of another ETA movement. These movements can all be adjusted to be very very accurate. The main thing though is that accuracy tends to fall off if not adjusted regularly because those movements are more prone to things like temperature changes and electromagnetic fields from technology changing how the small parts inside the movement interact with each other. Another thing to note is since these movements are mass produced on such a large scale and placed in watches by microbrands, a lot of quality control has to be sacrificed to meet production quantity as well as they aren't always regulated to peak accuracy before being placed into a watch you get right out of the box. Often you can open a sub $500 watch after buying it and then tune it to it's peak accuracy. To the average person though, it doesn't really matter if your watch is running 2 seconds faster at the end of the day. Chances are you didn't move enough to charge the power reserve and it's dead and has to be rewound and reset the next day anyways. More expensive watches have many components that make them worth that much. They are usually movements that are more complex, far more accurate, regulated to their peak performance by certified professionals before being sent to store shelves at stores that are approved dealers for those watch brands. They are usually more resistance to temperatures or EMF, have higher power reserves to stay running consistently within seconds a month or even year, and if serviced regularly, can run FOREVER because all the parts are made with special materials or treated to not corrode. Not to mention a lot of expensive watches are made from precious metals (rose/white/yellow gold, platinum) that don't corrode and those materials aren't cheap. More expensive watches also meet certain certification standards. That means each watch has to go through many (not cheap) regulated and approved rigorous tests and pass them all to receive the certification. Lastly, expensive watches usually have at least a few hand made/finished components. The skill and hours someone has to put in to accomplish this can be mind blowing to witness or read about. Sometimes a person who hand finishes watches for these companies only completes a couple of those watches a year. He needs to make a living wage. That goes into the cost of the watch. The reasons go on and on, but unfortunately the people affording these watches don't know or care about these things and buy them as a Flex. This is what inflates what should be a $10k-$20k watch to sell for $80k, making the enthusiasts dream of owning one far less attainable.

A quote for you: “Three years ago, his lawyers agreed in a tax filing that Mar-a-Lago was correctly valued by the county at $26.6 million. That assessment was based on the fact that Mar-a-Lago is deed restricted as a club, and isn’t listed as a private residence, which would have vastly improved its value. While paying those down-to-earth taxes, Trump has been valuing the property at between $426.5 and $612 million in other legal filings, “an overvaluation of at least 2,300 percent, compared to the assessor’s appraisal,” the New York judge in his ongoing civil fraud trial noted.” So the options are he either lied to the government to pay less taxes or he lied about the value to secure loans to the bank. 18:20 As a watch enthusiast, it's not just about being able to tell the time. People collect and wear watches for all sorts of reasons, he likely wore them for the status of owning a Rolex, AP, JLC, Patek, or other expensive luxury brand. But generally speaking people wear watches like that for the mechanics inside the watch and other intangibles (even if they aren't very expensive). It's like, yes, old cars aren't as fast or efficient as newer cars, Ferrari's from the 70/80's have less horsepower than most cars made in 2023. It's not about the horsepower.

In defense of watches for the average Joe i'd say theyre pretty useful accessories to have on you. They give that extra little pop to an outfit especially if you wanna look dapper or youre trying to look professional. If you actually know how to read them theyre also better than a phone in alot of situations. I like to go for swims here and there and they can help you time your laps and not loose track of time. If you're biking or driving you dont usually have your phone within reach or you shouldnt atleast and a quick glance at your watch tells you the time better than a phone. I go out for hikes and usually put everything in my backpack for safe keeping and so nothing gets wet and if i need to know what time it is again the watch comes in handy. If im at the movies or church or having a conversation with someone again a quick glance is bwtter than pulling up your phone and checking the time, especially at the movies where your phone should be off but a glow in the dark dial is alot less conspicuous. Lets say the battery on your phone is super low and you really need to check the time lol you can save that little bit of charge by glancing at your watch real fast, maybe your phone is already dead lol. Alot of digital watches have stopwatch and timer features built in as well which i have actually founded uses for. Some people like myself also like the engineering and intricate detail that goes into watch making and having one on to look at and start up conversations is cool too. I know im missing some stuff but thats some of the reasons why i like to wear watches even though i have a phone.
@aedanryan
@aedanryan 10 ай бұрын
Genuinely curious, how often do you need to know what time it is at the movies? I don't think I've ever been in a movie theater and wanted to see what time it was. I wonder if one's relationship to time and the amount of times one feels the need to check the time plays a role in wanting a watch. I have a pretty good sense of time and deliberately check the time pretty rarely throughout the day, so I'd never consider wearing one.
@erikcarrillo7378
@erikcarrillo7378 10 ай бұрын
@aryan16145 To each their own my point is a phone doesn't make a watch useless. If im watching a movie I don't like I'll check my watch to see how much of it is left to sit through. For example I took my GFs lil brothers to watch Wish and about a half hour in I checked my watch to see how much longer I had to sit through it.
