i was heavily depressed and after a failed attempt at suicide i listened to this song tripping on mushrooms and suddenly i realized how beautiful life really is and can be. i was just a teenager then and now as an adult this song still brings tears to my eyes. cudi always talks about wanting to be there for that lonely kid sitting at home full of sadness with his music. you were my friend when i had no one. i will never forget you cudi.

This song reminds me of one of my old friends. We discovered this video during our freshman year of college and we used to joke that I was Cudi and he was Dan. Now we barely even talk. It's crazy how you go from spending almost all of your free time with someone to not really taking to them anymore. This video always brings back memories.

A decade late- for those that are curious, Dan sampled extensively in this song taking from the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra's cover of the main theme of 1984's Starman which he then mixed with his previous single "HYPNTZ" which sampled the drum beat from Rihanna's "Umbrella" and used lyrics from The Notorious B.I.G's "Hypnotize" (Though those lyrics were later changed due to copyright issues). This song is an amalgamation of several decades of music, movies and media, and I for one love it.
@yoshen784 жыл бұрын

@Croix14 жыл бұрын
The drum beat is not sampled from Rihanna, rather the two songs share the same source: Garageband. This is a royalty free drum loop from the software, the loop is called "Vintage Funk Kit 03". www.whosampled.com/sample/78624/Dan-Black-Symphonies-Apple-Inc.-Vintage-Funk-Kit-03/

I know Cudi is only a feature on this track, but he’s a great genre bender. Often taking rock/other genres and combining them to make something dope. The sample from Mojo So Dope is a great example. The original isn’t something I’d listen to normally, but that “God I thought I loved you so, oh oh oh” makes the song

I remember playing nba 2k11 for hours in the afternoon and evening during the whole summer 9 years before listening to this song. I was picking Miami Heat just for Dwyane Wade. Used to make him 99 overall and dominate all the teams. Making every shot with him, passing him the ball all the time. Same thing with Jordan in Chicago Bulls. And after playing that game I'd watch some KZbin videos of him and then go to the park and play basketball with my friends. Shooting like DWade, pretending I'm him. Sometimes impersonating MJ. I was hoping I'll grow up one day and play in the NBA like them. Maybe dunk the rim too. We then, went to live somewhere else. 9 years later and after all these somehow, I'm finding myself here in the same room during the Covid 19 listening to this song. Of course I never made it. Never touched the rim. I can't describe how I'm feeling right now. Deja Vu? Nostalgia? Sadness? I don't know...
@dylannesti69104 жыл бұрын
Hey Man U got up and played that’s more than most can say. It’s all about effort... maybe u didn’t touch the rim on the court but u most certainly can soar above the rim with your dreams if you put your heart into what you want. Stay being a free spirt, don’t be sad be happy for the memory!

In 2015 I broke down in my shower because of a diagnosis I got from a Dr, in college, with my gf, with my whole life ahead. This song broke me but not the way one would imagine. In the sense that I asked to god in a symphony to give me more than the life I could see… 10 years later, past the time frame the neuros told me I wasn’t going to walk, let alone have kids… I heard this song aloud with my same gf and she dated how much she hated this song because of how it awoke me. And I looked at her arms told her ye of little faith look at what he has given us despite the darkness I found myself in.
