Must have been fun for Dan Blocker as he had been a champion boxer as a young man.

Dan Blocker (6'4"-280) played college football AND was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers but went into the military to fight in the Korean War. Chuck Connors (6'6" 240) played in the NBA & MLB, obviously a great athlete. Would have been a very interesting fight.

Both of these guys were no joke in the real world. Dan was also a bouncer when he was just a kid. I remember some decades ago reading an interview with Dan and he said he always wanted to race cars but he couldn't fit behind the wheel so he took up boat racing instead. You're right, that would have been one hell of a fight if it were real.

T4TEXASTOM JOHNNYCAT that’s the first time I’ve ever seen Dan look normal size or almost small. Connors was a big guy. Like a Ted Cassidy

If this fight was on Bonanza, Hoss would've won....

On a good day, Chuck Connors was 6'6 & no more than 190 lbs. You can see that he's slender & muscular. But he was never 240 lbs. Dan Blocker was up to 300 pounds later in his career -- but in this scene, I agree about 280. In an episode of Bonanza when the Cartwrights go to San Francisco -- Dan fights the horror legend Tor Johnson & appears a little heavier than Tor. But not as solid.

I love how TV and movies usually show how much fun or how funny fistfights are. They are neither. The marks of a fistfight stay on your face for a couple of weeks, and sometimes you not only get broken cheeks and jaws but broken hands as well. The winner and loser don't usually wind up as friends and go to the bar and have a friendly beer. You beat someone, you'd better be looking over your shoulder for a while. Oh, and you don't get to choose your opponent; he chooses you, and the first time you realize you're in a fight is when you're on the ground and you feel like a firecracker went off inside your head.

Joe P .....You're right, I love to watch these old Westerns but the fist fights and the gun fights are always so unrealistic.... My favorite is when The Rifleman goes to town, kills the bad guy in a gun fight, then turns to Mark and says....."Mark, are you ready for some supper at the Hotel...? Then Mark says...."Pa, can I have some pie after supper" ????

Some truth to what you say.. but it also depends where and when you came up throwing hands. My gen, my town, the winner usually did buy the beer. And no-one (smart) left the defeated without dignity. It was rare when you weren't looking over your shoulder anyway so no biggie.. I had dozens of hard street fights coming up.. but nothing rang my bell worse than the heartbreak of losing a woman I loved. LOL.

All true. The other bit of business they used to sell was getting hit over the head and knocked unconscious. They made you think that you could shake it off. If you get hit that hard it could cause lifetime damage.

Bonanza and Gunsmoke had more realistic fights. Rifleman did have a few but it's just like you said some of them look hilariously fake.

Funny how they show fist fights and soooo little damage, then boys to school, try something like that, and someone ends up with a broken jaw and hospital, or worse. In junior--not even high-school, we had a boy killed in a fist fight. I credit TV for glamorizing and building up the "excitement" of fist fighting

People don't fistfight anymore nowadays. They go for the quick victory with guns.

Not too many people could look realistic knocking Dan Blocker down. Connors would be on that list.

Here is a weird one. Conners, all 6, 6" of him, played opposite James Arness (Gunsmoke) and get this, they gave Connors shoe lifts so he could be as tall as the 6 8" Arness.
