As a kiwi myself, JW was always one of those guys you disliked only because he was so freaking good. Bloody great goal kicker and tackler. Modest and talented. Hard to say, but you can't stray from the truth. I'm a JW fan for sure. Thank you Johnny for the great moments you brought to the game of rugby! You will surely go down as one of the greatest 1st fives/flyhalfs (depending where your from) rugby has ever seen!

Wilkinson was the best in his day for sure and by 2003, he was at his peak. Great player, and despite all of his terrible injuries carried England through to two consecutive RWC finals. The fact he played through until 2014, with Toulon to a high standard was pretty incredible considering aforementioned injuries. Carter pretty much redefined First Five play, and is the GOAT, until/if Barrett does something like win another RWC. Anyhow, Wilkinson and his main rival of the era Bernie Larkham were superb players and deserve true great status. Merht's was the best in the world circa 95-97, and Spencer deserves an honorable mention. However, they both had tactical shortcomings Carter, Wilkinson, and Larkham improved upon.
