Awesome. But I bet they moved the frozen food by now.😉😆 This song has universal appeal because so many people have had these same types of experiences with ex's. Yup 70 and crying like a baby.....my engagement ended NYE 1973 over a display of Toberlone candy. Cant eat the stuff to this day even though 50 years have passed.

These situations could always end differently, positively. People who really have something deep for each other are often reluctant, think it will re-complicate their life, stubborn, or too lazy to reach for and -grasp it. So often, they never, ever find anyone as special as the one they let walk away. I know this personally.

What makes this song so special is the realness of first loves or high school sweethearts. Not just for Dan but for all of us. How many of you have come across an old friend or flame in public and not remember them at first? Then running up to them and remembering and laughing away the years. Well Dan Fogelberg captured that Spot On. If this happens to you today, don't forget to get addresses, phone #'s or emails.

This song is pretty close to what happened to me. The difference being I never became a famous entertainer when my old flame and I crossed paths. She was the one that got away and I almost never got ove her and at the time it happened I still wasn't completely over her and it had been close to 10 years. We were childhood and high school sweethearts. Ee broke up because she moved away and then married less than a year later. Would I was devastated. Years later I was between jobs so I moved back to my hometown and was tending bar at a local tavern. It was around Christmas holidays and I was working. She was in town and happened to stop in the bar. It wasn't busy with only a couple regulars hanging out and one woman (a freind of mines wife Patty) after listening to us talk about the past happened to say, "I can't believe you two never got married!" It hit me like a ton of bricks and she began to shed tears. Patty apologized though no apology was necessary Since that night I listen to this song every Holiday and just smile. I have no regrets. I have a wonderful daughter by another woman and my daughter might never have been born otherwise, so I don't live in the past except for once or twice during Christmas listening to this song.

Every year around Christmas I listen to this song and it paints a clear picture in my mind. It brings up memories of girlfriends past, lovers with no name. We are all traveling this same incredible journey but the meaning of it all gets clouded with our daily stress. This year there are no friends dropping by, no parties where we meet new ones, and as I sit reflecting back on 2020 I find it more difficult to enjoy this song. There just is no human interaction, no spontaneity and happiness. It's been a sad year, the 1st like it in my 43 years. There is a clarity that arises from our situation, that it is the people and relationships in our lives that add true value, not possessions or things we can buy. My hope is that as our world works its way through Covid19 the old saying 'what doesn't kill you will only make you stronger' will ring true the world over. Here's to better days!

In tribute to Fogelberg and the Fogelberg family, the city of Peoria, Illinois - his hometown - renamed Abington Street in the city's East Bluff neighborhood "Fogelberg Parkway." The street runs along the northeast side of Woodruff High School, Fogelberg's alma mater, and where his father was a teacher and bandleader. "Fogelberg Parkway" continues northwest, then west, to the intersection of N. Prospect and E. Frye, the location of the convenience store where Fogelberg ran into his old high school sweetheart one Christmas Eve - a chance encounter described in the song "Same Old Lang Syne."

At 74 I often think could of, would of, should of but then I think that’s Life. I am so thankful for memories. Thankful for those I met, those I lost, and those I loved. Makes us reaffirm our priorities and what love really means. As we go though this coronavirus quarantine let’s not forget where our memories are at this time. Life is good, friends are great, but love beats all. HIS blessings on all of us. Life is a mix of the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Now mind you, I'm on my way to work and I've got get myself together for a days work! Listened to the song all the way through and after I stopped crying and dried my eyes, I finally felt in the Christmas spirit! A Christmas song that isn't cheery, happy, or reverent. Lyrics that are powerful........a life experience so well told. Storytelling/crafting at its supreme finest. I remember growing up and hearing this song on the radio and even at that age being able to sense the deep pathos of this particular piece. I didn't know at the time who sang or even composed this song. It wasn't until I was an adult that I heard the name Dan Fogelberg and of the many other songs that I grew up listening to that were his as well. Such an amazing talent........lost too soon.......missed so greatly. This is musical and lyrical TALENT; if anybody is unsure of what is, what counts as gifted these days of auto-tune, glitz-and-glam, 'dancers' ( using this in the loosest sense of the word) shaking what they got like they were on the Pole, lip-syncing, and empty entertainment. I miss the 80s and early 90s. Rip D. Fogelberg.
