A good interview. Still think that Bruce Lee’s style was in its infancy and we will never really know what the final scrolls would have looked like.
@axelstone3131

How do you evolve past simplicity and directness? And how can a guy who trained hardcore 24/7 who was doing hundreds to thousands of reps a day for around 15 years, give a take a few days or weeks off, develop a system that was “still in its infancy”? We aren’t talking about a normal person here. We are talking about someone who trained like a fantastic and was incredibly naturally gifted. The problem with jeet kune do is it’s been so poorly misrepresented for 50 years most people don’t know or underhand the art.

@@alexrain1188 you know what, I’m sick and fucking tired of seeing comments like yours all over KZbin pushing this idea that you can “evolve” simplicity and directness in martial arts, by making it MORE COMPLICATED by *adding* more styles and techniques. You don’t underhand Bruce’s process and like many focus way too much on what he said and not what he DID. Bruce was stripping, not adding. That is what he DID and that is how he trained. This is fact, not opinion. But you all have this idea it’s “stuck” because it hasn’t added all this new stuff which isn’t even new anyway. It’s all variations of stuff that’s always been around. Links probably don’t work, so I am going to advise you to check out John Paul Daily’s channel. He is a JKD instructor. Watch his recent live stream, simplicity, directness, non - classical and his two most recent shorts, part 1 and 2 about how Bruce actually trained.

Transcendance is totally empowering. you go from zero to hero in a second. The real secret is wisdom in disciplining and flowing with the Panther in near and present danger. A tad of the Panther is enough for every day dealings. The sight of the Panther is enough to persuade potential threats. Of course you do have to know confidence in your presentation as a fighter. No confidence ~ nothing

It's about applying what you know (knowledge) to different situations that will be effective. Most people learned by memorization at the beginning. Only masters / experts will take their learning and transcend it to different area.

"Attributes slightly more important than just the technique according to Sijo Bruce" The combination of an athletic body that can execute the movement with a mind that can learn and apply the technique properly. Wise words to remember for those who do far too much technique training but for go the training to improve their athletic ability. But also just as important to have instructors that seem from Guro Dan in the sense of learning the art of Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do. My lineage stems to my instructor Sifu Peter Nguyen who earned full instructorship from Guro Dan Inosanto.

@ uploader Thank you very much for uploading this wonderful speech from Dan INOSANTO, the man who really knew Bruce Lee as the man he was (with his strengths and weaknesses) and not as the mythical figure some fans are making of him into. @ yuan romero : Bruce Lee is not the first MMA expert in the world, he was the first MMA expert in the USA. Google Pankration : Pankration of ancient Greece : thousands of years old.Google Dioxippus : The greatest and most lethal "MMA" fighter (in that time they actually killed their opponents in Pankration on many occasions.Dioxippus is probably before Miyomoto Musashi the deadliest one vs one fighter in the world (Miyomoto had katanas, Dioxippus was bare handed). Google Nihon Kempo : ... developed in 1932 by Muneomi Sawayama, the art places an equal emphasis on striking techniques using hands and feet, immobilization and controls, projections and take-downs. Google Jon Bluming : Jon Bluming : 10th Dan Judo 10th Dan Hapkido 9th Dan Karate : started boxing at 13 years old in 1946, military close combat in 1949, fought in the Korean war in 1950, started Judo and Taekkyon around 1953, in 1958 he started Shotokan Karate then switched to Kyokushin karate, he is also trained in bojutsu, iaijutsu and kendo. Jon trained with the highest masters of their respective arts and formed himself some of the greatest masters and fighters in the world, one of them even made Daidi Juku, the first MMA championship form in the world way before UFC and Pride (But after the ridiculous match of Muhammad Ali vs Antonio Inoki which was a show)

Honestly his JKD philosophy is the opposite of MMA. JKD philosophy means to not bound yourself to one or any number of techniques. It's his understating of other styles that allowed him to attack in their exposed spots when used. He didn't use a mix of martial arts to deal attacks, he used the understanding of them to avoid them...then use HIS own form to attack.

“The majority of people who practice Jeet Kune Do are mixed up, they think it should be a part of Wing Chun, a part of MMA, a part of Thai boxing, a part of wrestling, you know, a part of Wing Chun, which this is completely incorrect. You don't go from style to style, you go from distance to target or target to distance. That makes perfect logical sense the statement that Dan Inosanto just stated.In other words use your brain there is always an logical response to the situation at hand.No matter what's your fighting condition there is always an correct response do not put limits on your education or achievements in life a lot of the times when one is trying to figure out the answer it's likely its in front of us.The most effective weapon one can acquire is one own brain.Utilize it to my own ability

The Bruce Lee haters say and this is most likely a lie that Dan Inosanto says Bruce is really not a fighter. There are other Bruce Lee students say otherwise, a martial artist actually to be feared. I understand, Dan cannot speak on behalf of other Bruce close associates. He only speak based on his experience with Bruce. But the testimony of Abdul Jabbar and Jesse Glover, Bruce was gifted martial artist to be feared, bigger fighters couldn’t take him down he was like a “Ghost”, according to Jesse Glover.

A part that might mean I'm psychotic is how I've noticed that if a person is looking to their side in photos you can see the white in their eye but only one side of it. Now imagine people see out of the white part and not the black pupil. They swap places when you see it right and suddenly they aren't looking to the side but the white is looking right at you like a white pupil in a black eye. All of this has made me think of the yin and the yang. looking right at you. What if you couldn't figure out whether the person could see from the white or the black? kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGWplYCmlN-Hd7M In this scene he holds the bamboo pointing up and holds the tip right under his eye like he's pointing to it. Then the bamboo shakes slightly and you can see the white and the black swapping back in forth like quivering. Twice in the scene I think I believe Bruce about him telling Dan he saw the fight from another place because Bruce was so used to movies that he knew exactly how everything looked on the camera as he did the scene. In the Game of Death scene with Inosanto he strikes a pose with his palm out fingers stretched and then moves his arm to his left out from in front of his face underlining his face with his thumb

Oh boy. Crossing the street isn't traveling dork. You trek through a jungle -- but first you fly a 747 to Africa (traveling). To Box like Floyd Mayweather you Box. Same for Wrestling, Muay Thai, and Jiu-jitsu. In MMA you master all fighting arts. You slip or parry a punch like a boxer, apply a ankle lock like a Jitzer, or execute a suplex body throw like a wrestler. You don't say "I'm going to choose this, this, and this from Boxing" No man, you master the whole art. Somebody smashes you on the chin with a devastating right cross? You're already knocked out cold.
