This video of Dan made me cry. I have seen people his age in nursing homes withering away at life. His spirit is strong, the quest for knowledge never ends. What an incredible human being.

Tuhon Dan Inosanto!!!!!! He was an inspiration for me when I started with him in 1980, and he is still an inspiration, probably even more so now. (That John Machado is not too shabby either!)

The Machados ran..or still run a class at Inosanto's Academy, and if my memory serves me correctly Dan trained with them (as shown in this vid) several mornings a week at like 6 or 7am in the morning for an hour or so each session. Still training hard and learning new things in his 70's. God Bless Him.

Yeah I understand the relationship. I was just saying that I've heard from one of Bruce's students that he also studied Silat from others as well, not just Dan Inosanto. Thanks for trying to help though. :)

the turn and slight adjustment of oneself into your opponent as you wrap yourself around one, only one of his extremities. Dan Inosanto is an amazing man, one whom disregards nothing and takes in everything. A true Jiu jitsu man does not get excited, nor worry, he only relaxes and reacts to his opponent, he will tense up only at the proper time to disrupt his opponents rhythm and secure position in order to bring the fight his way.
@CLing513 жыл бұрын
It must be such an honor to have Guru Dan Inosanto come into your school and say "Teach me Jiujitsu." I would be completely humbled!

Wow. Dan Inosanto first studied Judo when he was a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne in... wait for it...1957. From the upload date, it looks like 50 years between that first Judo lesson and this BJJ lesson. Damn, Sifu Dan is made of iron.

What an inspiration! You know it amazes me the still today when we talk about Guro Dan that SiJo Bruce still comes up in the conversation. - Yes he was the greatest and has paved the way for all of us, but I think that Guro Dan has truly taken it to the next level. He has went in a direction that Bruce would have been proud of. - He has def. become a Legend outside of Bruce's shadow and is Truly and Inspiration to us all!

Props to Dan. He was a martial arts legend for decades yet still learned something new that proved to be effective. He could have made excuses about how BJJ or UFC wasn't real fighting but he didn't he embraced it.

A Martial artist, like all artists path is infinite, and far surpasses the boundaries of set goals and achievements like black belts and the sort. the art is ever evolving and never set to one specific rule or function. Keep on gaining wisdom Dan.

Guru Dan is one of the most humble people you will ever meet. Truly someone to emulate in these times.

This is absolutely awesome to see. A true master, jumping right on out there to continue his education and path to enlightenment. Just goes to show that true warriors never stop learning or are completely satisfied with themselves. Master Bruce would not only have approved, but would have been proud to see Master Insanto progressing in a new style at the age of 70+. Props do you Master Insanto ~Ossss~

Machado's jiujitsu is on another lever than almost anyone. However, as martial artists I would put them on the same level. This is a wonderful testament though as to how a teacher should teach their students. Machado is the man but he may share that spot with Inosanto.

JKD is not just a style or art. It is a methodology and, ultimately, a philosophy. Real JKD practitioners open their minds and bodies up to study whatever they need to grow and prevail in their thinking and movement.

It is too easy to sit at one's keyboard and say this and that about this subject, but the greatest proof of humility is in how one expresses their thoughts without insulting the audience reading what has been written. Teach by example.
@irrik77716 жыл бұрын
Yeah you're right. Dan knows some Silat. I'm aware by an unofficial source that Bruce also studied Silat under an Indonesian. Not a big deal. It's pretty obvious after watching certain sequences in "The Game of Death". Bruce was so entertaining. What martial arts actor now has an outstanding personality like that guy had? You tell me and I'll watch! lol

Wonderful stuff to watch Dan still expanding his skills. I'm sure Bruce would've been all over BJJ as well. In fact, I always think that if Bruce were still with us, he would've done the early UFC stuff. He probably would've gone into it knowing BJJ and kicked some major ass. Vunak certainly studied with the Gracies before the first UFC; I would've loved to have seen what Bruce would've done with it!

@EdgeOfTheWorld i agree with u in that JKD was Bruce Lee's personal expression of the martial arts which he molded and sculpted into his life. No one else can do JKD like Lee can but just because no one else can do it like him doesn't mean the philosophy behind JKD can't be used by anyone else. It just has to be molded and sculpted into YOU and your own thing.
@theamh123412 жыл бұрын
I agree with you 110%.

@arama0010 your right jkd isnt a style but its not a philosophy its a system of approach. bruce himself said it wasnt a style and it wasnt a philopophy but a way of life a way to retrain your mind. but it doesnt have to say it in his books he actually mentioned mjj in some early books and said that it lacked striking. he didnt actually get into grappling until his last few years on earth he trained in judo with gene lebel and jesse glover, but grappling wasnt a large part of it
@piker300016 жыл бұрын
wow that transition at 1:07 was sweet
@northernpike1311 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. He knew the difference between what a real fight looked like and what people wanted to see in movies. But his training with Gene was probably out of his desire to learn more about fighting and using it in movies was a by-product. At least I think it was.
@arama001013 жыл бұрын
@houseofaction yeah I know his life inside out. Im not talking about his own fighting style. That was orientated in certain martial arts. I mean his philosophy, which consists on anything that is useful for the person etc.
@ladysha116 жыл бұрын
age ain't nothing but a number...great vid.
@hoorano13 жыл бұрын
I'd say that if Bruce Lee was alive, he'd eventually discovered Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. In Bruce's later films he displayed some grappling in "Enter the Dragon" and "Game of Death." Kudos to Dan Inosanto in carrying the the torch and expanding Jeet Kun Do to another level. If not Dan, it would be fun to watch someone do a martial arts film featuring JKD incorporating BJJ. Bruce would've been more invincible w/ the foundation of BJJ combined what he already integrated in his JKD.
@SuperBlueman210 жыл бұрын
Take all the elements in a situation and respond accordingly to it. Knowing not just how to strike, but all to wrestle as well. A situation works through ranges, and human endeavor. One may argue all they wish but the true reality is he or she that walks away from the encounter.
@voce33379 жыл бұрын
71 years old??? holly shit!!!
@irrik77716 жыл бұрын
Bruce studied some of the Small Circle Jujutsu principles under Wally Jay. Some say he also studied with Gene Le Belle. He probably studied more under unknown judo and jujutsu guys as well. Some say he also studied harimau (tiger) silat under an Indonesian...not Dan Inosanto..he's Filipino! :)
