The Sports Reporters -- That was, by far IMO, the most intelligent sorts show I've ever seen. Dick Schaap and after that John Saunders, that show was a Sunday morning staple for me. Outstanding debates without anyone screaming their heads off at each other. They'll NEVER get a show like that back again sad to say.

Death nail has been the rise of the podcasts & shorts . As well as the other channels that are out there. Once upon if time they were the only & easiest way to digest sports. That has changed for everyone in media not just ESPN. I had broke down to watching shorts or clips to watch the subject I wanted to hear about when before we had to sit through that entire episode. ESPN, once the in air talent gets to big won’t pay them. They’ll pay on of them & let the others go & build a new one. It’s backfired after so long.

The NBA show that had Amin and Tmac, and Rachel was DA BEST...PERIOD. I used to watch it religiously. The replacement show...not so much. My love for sports grew as a young boy and a teen through ESPN. I would watch ESPN at night, then rewatch the same episode on the rerun the following morning before school. It was on ESPN that I first saw Ken Griffey Jr and “The Big Hurt” Frank Thomas. I wore his number 35 for years. ESPN introduced me to perhaps my first love in life - SPORTS. The on-air talent personalities were known to me. They entertained while providing instruction and teaching about all things sports. They were my teachers. My coaches. Familiar faces and familiar voices. I watched and listened to ESPN programs for nearly 30 years. It’s not the same anymore. And it’s unfortunate.

I went from watching ESPN on TV to Clips on KZbin to now purposely avoiding them altogether. Each change of viewership was a direct impact of them letting certain people go. I am big on loyalty and SVP, Levy, SUZY KOLBER, Rachel Nichols, former NBA Talent and far too many people who should be able to go on their own terms. Suzy been their almost my whole life. Are they telling me they don't need a veteran sideline reporter to help the atrocious new people they have had? Pat's show isn't even something that works on Disney. His show will automatically get worse since there won't be an element of freedom and cursing that will not fly on disney airwaves. There was a guy with the initials of DLB sometime ago that left with a similar format of friends talking and having fun about topics THEY felt passionate about and that didn't work in terms of the restriction of what can actually be said without repercussions from the top brass of the company. Disney Killed Marvel, murdered Star Wars, butchered their own classic animations and now slain ESPN. They decimated my childhood and that my friends, is a cold hard Clint Eastwood Unforgiven for me. Fuck the castle and the four letters.

The quality at ESPN has been going downhill for fifteen plus years, but people were still hooked on cable so the money each month kept coming in to ESPN. I started watching espn in 96 because it was hilarious. Stuart Scott, Rich Eisen, Dan Patrick, Keith Olberman, and the big Swami were comedians reporting sports when I got home from work at 7am after doing a graveyard shift

Loved that era because when something really funny happened, you could watch it like 5 more time that day on replay.

The fact that they think the younger generations can’t “discern” quality content, opinion shows, and actual analysts reporting news..is all you need to know. Don’t insult people’s intelligence without understanding the problem. Which is, consumers are sick and tired of opinion shows and people yelling at each other on ESPN. We want to watch more sports. Not people talking about it.

It's not like this is the first time ESPN has done a slew of layoffs. It's like the writers strike, just look back a few years, this is a repeating pattern and it'll happen again. Happens in every industry.

IMO it is over for ESPN as far as sports reporting. Consumers don't need sports networks since they can get news from KZbin channels like this and they can filter to which sport and teams they want. I am a Cowboys fan but I know it pisses off other fans that they devout so much time to them and get nothing from their team. People don't have time to wait in hopes they talk about their team.

I don’t think these layoffs create like an irreplaceable hole in ESPN but it’s more like death by 1000 papercuts. They’re chipping away at the company and eventually, maybe after the next round of layoffs or the one after that, it will be unrecognizable. One day we’ll wonder when ESPN turned into Pat McAfee and Stephen A Smith screaming all day long

That's almost every show. Then they have someone say something stupid like "baker Mayfield will be mvp" or some garbage that everyone knows is crap. Then everyone argues about it with fake points and they move on to lebron vs Jordan. After that they bring out the top 10 list and repeat this whole process. Am I wrong?
