It was i only uaed to watched espn for that show. I was done with first take. One of the thinga tht drew me in was they ddnt yell. But they did what? Expressed their opinions on a sports related topic. Bomani had ome side and Dan had the other. Dad was just funny. They ddnt yell like skip and SAS or skip and shannon or even PTI. But they did debate sports related points and opinions. Except ehn they ibterviewed ppl like Tyson. But the whole point of the show is to hear Sans opnion and Bomanis opinion which alot of times they ddnt agree.they did it classier.

Dan can't see the forest for the trees when it comes to this issue. This isn't an issue specific to sports media, this is an issue with all media and all journalism. It has all become dumber and clickbait driven. If guys like Skip and Stephen A just stayed true to journalism and tried to have a show where they both read their columns and gave each other positive notes or a show where they interviewed athletes with "good" questions their show would have been cancelled in a heartbeat. This is a societal issue. Skip and Stephen A were just smart enough to see it before the rest and get on board before the rocket took off. If it wasn't Skip it would have been somebody else. Dan's issue isn't with Stephen A Smith or Skip Bayless, it's with society.

@@kcjones9440 this has nothing to do with First Take using humor, its more about years of them turning every sports topic into mindless debates that are aimed at getting people emotional for clicks, views, and ratings and always attempting to make everything a zero sum game which has turned the sports media landscape into an ugly place. Dan and Stu's brand is being a funny radio show in the sports realm, trying to compare the two is like apples and oranges and just makes you look uninformed on the situation.

Dan held back. There is a part of the Stephen A. Smith podcast where he got "angry" that people were saying it was a dark day for ESPN that a lot of talented people were let go. He went on to say that ESPN is still going strong without those people. He even made a statement justifying the layoffs for Disney, but that it wasn't financial losses at ESPN that was the cause. It was kind of jarring to hear him say that. I also don't know why nobody pointed out that the Stephen A. just handwaved a loss of close to 20 million subscribers like it wasn't a big deal and didn't affect ESPN's position in the industry.

i believe his point was since 2014 (maybe i got the yr wrong) espn has been laying people off, sometimes in greater numbers than what just occurred and in those previous instances there wasn't a peep, and some of the people who are talking now were employed at espn during these layoffs, if the present layoffs are a "dark day" then what was the previous?? 7:50 EXACTLY!!!! There is a HUGE difference between sports analysis before Skip and Stephen A arrived, and afterwards!! Skip and SAS are the pioneers of the exaggerated, dumbing down of sports for mainstream audiences, where actual ANALYSIS of the sport is a distant third to DRAMA and Hot Takes. WHEN was the last time you heard X and Os being discussed? When was the last time either one of those characters discussed front office matters? When have they educated the audience!? They don't! They have ruined sports analysis and have made MILLIONS while doing so!!
@colinwhat769
@colinwhat769 Жыл бұрын
Do you remember espn before they were there? Sure you might get a show like shit... the one with jaws where they broke down tape every week, maybe inside edge? But talking about dumbing it down, it was already dumb to begin with. It was just highlights. It's annoying to listen fans talk like things like OTL, and longer pieces that cover off the field issues, business, or even breaking down schemes at a high level. That stuff has always been the exception not the rule. The debate stuff is far more of a problem with actual news coverage than sports. Who cares. And FYI PTI was the harbinger or change. They were the ones that started the path towards first take. And it would have happened with or without Stephen A Smith. Cnn, msnbc, foxnews... all these networks made the move to debate centered shows in the late 90s early 2000s. Trend is way too big to pin on individuals specifically imo.

So is Dan and just about every other "journalist" on TV and radio. Dan is acting like he`s Greenberg or Ernie Johnson and that`s not who he is. He`s directly contributed to the Hot Take and toxic fan culture. Its simply a case of how you like your hot takes. Clam and quiet or loud and over the top. How many times a day do they get into back and forth on Dan`s show? Right now they are calling our an NBA reporter for working directly for the Trailblazers to gain leverage with the Heat. In terms of making the audience dumber... In this very show there was a segment in which they were going back and forth about Maxey vs Herro and a room full of people who`ve never played the game before, coached the game before or know anything about scouting or player development were giving player evaluations, that didn`t even touch on the reason why a lot of people in the league value Maxey over Herro as a player or why the Trailblazers would not value Herro as much as Maxey. That made your listeners more smart? Stu Gotz breaking down the Triangle offense makes me a smarter basketball fan? If that`s not Skip culture I don`t know what is. In one breath you call out a colleague at a different network for releasing information for a source in the same way its been released since Cosell then in the next breath they go full on Skip Cowboys/Dallas homer. Both SAS and Dan are right here. Skip and SAS made a generation of sports fans more toxic not more dumb. (If the information exist and I`m not blocking your from accessing it and you refuse to access it, you`ve made yourself more dumb) and Dan has and still is participating and benefitng from that culture.

Dan don't throw Jemelle on the bus. She was not calling out SA. She was relaying her experience. PTI has been the standard for years. I don't view it as the same as First Take or Undisputed. The main issue is while we have so much more information now, it is so polluted and controlled now.

Stephen A saying Le Batard is participating in “Sports Debate TV” would be like Don Lemon telling John Stewart he’s participating in “cable news political debate”. Actually, someone once tried to do that on CNN’s Crossfire. Also, Fred Taylor should be in the HoF!

Steven A. Smith bullied Skip Bayless. That's the reason Skip left "First Take" which he started and invited Steven A. Smith to come and join him. Well, I guess Dan and his crew are the smart people.😳 Debate shows work because that's what many friends and families do. Dan obviously doesn't like to be challenged. The arrogance it takes to call others dumb is so reflective of their high mindedness. Look at Dan's show. It is set up for his voice to be the only one that matters. The others are just minions.
