Part of this is on me as an editor because this cut down is missing context established in a previous segment of the paper football joke. Another important note is that Greg and Stu did not know the exact topic that Dan would discuss in this segment before participating in the visual bit of playing the paper football game. We understand the seriousness of this topic, and I want to apologize for not including the established context of the paper football game happening while Dan was talking. This is good to hear Cuban Americans talk about how US govt policies benefited Cuban immigrants upon arrival starting in the 60s thru today. Especially in comparison to other immigrant groups. This easily feels like the most self-aware conversation I've heard out of the shipping container regarding their Cuban heritage and the racial (less class, but, beggars...) politics among brown, white, and black people, and how some of it manifest....just the few simple comments here. What would be great and even better was someone on the show as a guest perhaps that can speak to, not just the histories of how the economic exploitation via colonialism and its afterlives contributed to the current politics of our region....and how, particularly the history of Haitian people's dissent and outright revolt has been a lesson unlearned -- purposefully so that no other exploited people get any ideas -- and the way racism is a technology used to cover their economic evisceration while teaching them.... never again.

I appreciate them addressing such a serious societal issue, although it was a odd to see a paper football game happening during the discussion. We're often quick to dismiss things entirely, but that's the nature of their show. We can acknowledge that the mix was unusual and weird, while still appreciating the conversation they had on legal immigration and the lies that have been told about the Haitian immigrants. I was working at the time, so I didn’t focus much on the (paper football) game because the discussion was what mattered most. I don’t watch or listen as much as I used to, but I’m glad they’ve found a platform to continue their work.
