I just ordered 5’10 sweet potato for Florida surf. I’m 6’2 195lbs hoping that size will be good for me! I mostly longboard use to short board back in the day and wanting to downsize back hoping this fills that spot for me I’m excited to get it!

To those looking to buy a volcanic edition…I bought a seaside in the volcanic lamination earlier this year. Within 4 months my board started to delaminate. Feels like brail all over the bottom of my board. I never store my board in my car. I wash it with fresh water after every session and store it in a bag in my house. I’ve reached out to FireWire corporate and they are dragging their feet replacing it. For anyone looking to by a volcanic board be cautious as there are known manufacturing defects on these boards. They are very expensive boards and are supposedly very durable. I would recommend to you to NOT buy any of these volcanic series boards unless you want to be ripped off like I was.

Yeah i know at least 5 different guys who's helium boards turned streaky pink. Because something wrong with the foam. Other who got rust marks spots in their boards. Apparently there was a problem with some rust getting into the airlines. Some of them got refunded or partly refunded and some didn't get anything! Depending on where they purchased the board from. Or if they board had any other crack or damage. Saying that the boards can turn pink if the boars get water ingress even from tiny dings. I have a seaside and a mashup and i can see very faint pink mark starting to appear on the mashup. I was go buy another smaller mashup in volcanic. But after seeing what happened to friends boards and how the have not been refunded has put me clean off firewire. They are charging a premium price for their supposedly superior product. But cheaper old school PU boards don't turn pink. Firewire should replace all faulty boards that have turned pink or have rust marks.

Sheesh. I was told by my dealer that Volcanic was the cure for the pink/orange marks that appear on Helium boards. My original FST Sweet Potato looks new and my Sweet Potato 2 like its contracted surfboard measles.

@@troppotardi i starting to think the reason they came out with the "volcanic" version is maybe so you can't see if the blank is turning pink, orange, peach, rusty. That's why i have been holding off buying a new volcanic mashup. I want to wait and see if it happens again with this new volcanic versions. Has your volcanic board turned pink?

That sounds like micro blisters in the paint and not delaminating. It sucks, but it’s very much a cosmetic issue. How big are the spots that you are feeling?

I have an old Sweet Potato rapid fire 5'2'x 32.2 L, and I usually ride around 33 L I have a Cymatic 5'8" x 32.9 L as well as other Firewire like Seaside & Beyond 6'8", Gready Beaver timbertek 5'8' etc... My question is whether the new Sweet Potato 5'4" is too much volume for me, considering that the 5'1" has much less volume than I'm used to? I`m 5'9" tall and 155 pounds but 61 years old (in shape).

Looking into the Sweet Potato. Technically, seems that the 5'8 would be the ideal for me, but under the arm it feels just like any of my other boards( even having 5 litres more.. wherever they are🤷). To have paddle power and be able to surf weak mushy waves (basically , longboard points) would the 5 10 be to much? Or should I stick to the 5 8? Im 96kg and my quiver is 5'9 seaside (37.3L) , puddle jumper HP 5 10 ( 35L) and dominator 2 6'1 (36L)? Cheers

You can only do that with length once you start adding more foam making the board thicker and wider it is no longer the same model
