the US has a more progressive taxation system, but it has a much less progressive benefits system. While it is true that you have higher taxes on lower and middle classes, you get those taxes "back" in the form of inexpensive healthcare, childcare, transportation, unemployment benefits, etc. Whereas the US doesn't provide as much help, and the little help they do provide is heavily stigmatized

It's not the number of rich people that matters, it's the amount of money they collectively have (so you'd have to look at the gap between the top 10% and the bottom 10%, as well as incorporate the cost of living (excluding taxes) to figure out who has the better tax system.
