Dan is very eclectic and shows off so many styles and genres, and every song he has done is unique and beautifully done. In listening to his more recent renditions of the past 3-4 years, those songs show Dan’s jaw-dropping capabilities!!! In my opinion Dan is going to take America by STORM….and this whole earth will know of Dan. I believe he will be a household name in every country…very soon!!!! @NYDogLady -- If that was the case, then there would have been TWO people in his life who died from cancer very recently. His father had died of cancer on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, which was only two years and four months from the time he posted "The Sound of Silence" (for the second time).

Here's what Dan wrote in the first line of his Description for this version (his second time around)... 3,759,193 views -- Posted Feb 22, 2020 "This is my The Song Of Silence cover, inspired in the version of the band Disturbed, originally by Simon & Garfunkel." I left the number of views there, because when I saw it, I was thinking, "Wow! If everyone who ever viewed this video had SUBSCRIBED to the channel, Dan would never have made his bet with Gary (Nerdrotic)! ...grin... I love that Dan gave full credit to both Paul Simon's and Disturbed's version of the song. I've already seen down in the comments, where @claudiamarsh1648 mentioned that Dan's father had been fighting, and died from, cancer. Yes...Dan's father (Roberto) died on October 3, 2017...only two years and four months before Dan posted this song. Every time (which is often) that I hear that tiny "voice wobble," after also seeing the deep swallow he took shortly before that, as he was approaching that line, I think the same thing. I am in total agreement with you on Dan's presentation of the song. If you go look at my comment on Steven's (Stephen's?) reaction to David Draiman (whom I love listening to, as well) singing the Disturbed version, you'll also find that I am still in love with the original, which was released in 1965 (when my little teenage folk band picked it up and sang it all the time afterward). There's also one more version (of the original) that I will also love forever. Peter Hollens and Tim Foust did a HUGELY wonderful job of singing it together (on Peter's channel). I hope one of you will react to that on, at some point. Regarding the info Dan gave in his outro for this video, there's still (since late October/early November 2023) a problem with Dan's merch store that WAS on Represent. They sold out to Cameo, and the last I heard (about a month ago) was that Dan simply hasn't had the time to get the store re-set, with the new owner. His and a number of others simply faded from view overnight, when the sale took place, and have had to be redone. He told Eric July (on the following podcast: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6rSY4ODgsl7qs0 ) that he WOULD be getting it going again, as soon as he has time. THANK YOU VERY MUCH for reacting to Dan sing this wonderful song, wonderfully. 😀

Hey Linda! Unfortunately Steven and I know all too well about views vs subscribers being all kinds of disproportionate! Dan is so close to that 1 million though and it’s well deserved! I always loved Simon and Garfunkel's music. When I heard Dan's version of their song, I didn't know about the Disturbed cover. It's a much more intense take on that classic song & I actually like both of them. I was glad to hear you mention the hint of Dan sounding a bit like Geoff Tate at times. My sister & I had both noticed that back in December, when listening to his cover of Sleeping Sun by Nightwish. That's a really good cover btw. We first saw that cover video on Karla Bessa's channel, which actually shows Dan singing. For some reason, I could never find that same video on Dan's channel. It's a hauntingly beautiful song.

For sure! Both versions are good and have unique characteristics that shine through! Thanks for sharing and glad you enjoyed it! And so cool you noticed the Geoff Tate similarities too! Have a great one!

@rebeccacurtis6680 I don't know the whole history about why "Sleeping Sun" is on Karla Bessa's channel (for one thing, because she never gives credit to anyone except herself on her mash-ups or anything else), but evidently what happened was that sometime after Dan posted it originally, it got a copyright block that I was told he couldn't get out of. Why it didn't get removed from Karla's channel, who knows.
@rebeccacurtis66806 ай бұрын
@GrandmasGotGraceLW Hmmm. That's really strange. I can't understand what their reasons were for a copyright block. Thanks for the bit of background story for some clarity. It's a beautiful song done so well by him.

Dan covers this very close to Disturbed's ... with some added Dan things! 😅 Dan does make some changes ... he builds up to the vocal grit and anger sooner and his grit is harder, more angry sounding. David Draiman had a much smoother build up, and, his deep baritone at the start is richer in tone with a more intimate feeling to it. I highly recommend you check out Disturbed's official video of Sound of Silence. I absolutely adore Dan Vasc, and, I think he did a phenominal job here, but, Disturbed still holds the Best in Show for S.O.S. with extra points for creating this original arrangement that has become the gold standard of vocal covers that everyone else now emulates. The vocal break at the word "cancer" was intentional to create that emotional pang, and is in Disturbed's version, too. I also loved that little nuance in both versions and was very pleased that Dan included it. I also was happy to hear you discuss it, as in the dozens ... and dozens of reactors I've heard of both Dan and David, you are the first to even mention it! ❤ 😊 thank you!

You are the ONLY reactor I've seen who noticed the "cry" in the word cancer. It hit me the same way the first time I watched it. Yes, this is a cover of DISTURBED'S VERSION. On the video description title Dan wrote "This is my cover of the Disturbed version...." He liked it so much he covered that version and didn't try to pass it off as his own. He even used the same incorrect word that's on both Disturbed video and the Disturbed LYRICS POSTED ONLINE. (He used "ON" instead of "OF" in ... "the words "ON" the prophets.") English is not Dan's 1st language. He is Brazilian and we might hear some participle confusion. Dan often interposes IN and On when speaking. He said in passing on a Geeks and Gamers stream "'.. ON the church, or is it IN the church? I'm not sure which one'....
