I ain't never seen such a monstrous change since de day dat I was born, As bounced up here in the las' fo' weeks 'tween me and Miss Sally Horn. She 'parently had a normal constitution with good common sense to spare, but since she's been following de white folks, they've put Sally in de air! My troubles dey just started since at de big hotel she's stayed, a lady sent for her up dere to come and be de maid! When we used to go the restaurant, plain pork chops dey would do. Now she wants a porter house steak with a bottle of champagne too! She's gettin' mo' like de white folks every day! Tryin' to do just like 'em every way! Once she was stuck on Calico patterns, now all she wants is silks and satins, She's gettin' mo' like de white folks every day! I know at her home dat she only had just one kind of meat, Now she's gotta have two different kinds or else she can not eat. I know when chicken was a luxury, she'd eat 'em boiled or fried, now she must have a hummingbird's heart or else she ain't satisfied! She's got herself some irons, she's been working on her hair. She's got herself some kalsomine to help to make her fair. She can sing de "Swanee River" like it never was sung before, but since she's worked in de hotel, she warbles "Il Trovatore" She's gettin' mo' like de white folks every day! Tryin' to do just like 'em every way! Once she was stuck on Calico patterns, now all she wants is silks and satins. She's gettin' mo' like de white folks every day! You hear me shoutin', honey! She's gettin' mo' like de white folks every day! Yes she is! Tryin' to do just like 'em every way! Oh, once she was stuck on Calico patterns, now all she wants is silks and satins. She's gettin' mo' like de white folks every day!

Dan W. Quinn was the best for good reason. This song has also been performed wonderfully by black vaudevillian duo, (Bert) Williams and (George) Walker. You may find their complete recorded works as 3 CDs released by Archeophone Records. Some of Bert Williams's early silent film work may be found on a wonderful DVD box set of early African American silent shorts and films released by Kino Lorber, one of the premiere reissue outfits for vintage and classic cinema . Also, I don't recall the proper title, but there is a black answer film to 1915's BIRTH OF A NATION by the eminent DW Griffith.
