Found Dan Buettner while looking for information on the Mediterranean diet. I live in beautiful Astoria Oregon. I would LOVE to see this city become a Blue Zone. We have so much going right. We have a river walk that follows the Columbia River the whole length of the city. We have wonderful hills to incorporate into our walks. Unfortunately, this is now a tourist town, which caters to the tourist. We have "brew pubs" popping up all over, whiskey bars, distilleries, AND seven, that's right seven pot shops, two major fast food restaurants, and several convenience stores that sell fried foods. We are doing so well here that they built a cancer center. All this in a city of around 10,000. Pretty sad indeed. Astoria Oregon is what's wrong with America. I love the work you guys are doing! I have tree of Dan's books, and I'm determined to create my own personal Blue Zone!

This was such fun and Rich Roll is every bit that amazing guy in real life as the one his projects in his podcast. I did four pieces on NBC TV after this and the response from Rich's podcast was much greater and more meaningful. Rich is fast becoming one of the most influential voices of our time. P.S. Sorry about my hair. It as a bad hair month for me...

I am so impressed with all your work to give us an opportunity to become blue zone. Love that you worked with wonderful people in Naples and I believe South Florida would be an excellent demographic for blue zone implementation, particularly in the public and private school sector. Thank you and may you have continued success.

It's a beautiful book. I am starting a Blue Zone Journal on my 65th birthday 11/05. My plan is to document everything. Thank you, Dan!

Our brains are wired for pleasure ... I stick to things best if I can find a way to see/feel a result, even minuscule, early on my path to change. I laughed at Dan's point blank statement that we need to "limit our freedoms to do unhealthy shit." hahaha! So spot on! LOVE his vision! I have a very high happiness set point (always have). My husband is rather serious -- he says he's happy but just doesn't express it the way I do -- I tend to be pretty exuberant. We are blessed to live a simple life at the beach in a great community of people. I pick up trash when I walk on the beach --- it gives me purpose, has me engage with people, dogs, and wildlife, and I get to enjoy the beach and get my exercise. This daily practice hugely boosts my happiness. Really great interview--two very cool guys. Thank you both.

As a long time fan (read finding ultra 3-4 years ago) and frequent listener of the podcast, I must give some friendly feedback on this channel :).... I'm not a troll and of course this is only my opinion, but I really enjoyed past episodes where we got to see more of Rich in his everyday life. I certainly don't expect full vlogs or anything too intrusive on his life, but getting a glimpse into his eating and training while also getting a little behind the scenes of his podcast and his guests, and balancing a busy schedule is more fun to watch, and learn from, than merely watching his podcast - something if I want to listen to I would listen to on the podcast channel. Like I said, friendly feedback here :) ....any of his content is generally top notch, I just think watching the podcast is almost moot and a waste of this platform. Like I said, I could be wrong here, and maybe this is just some experimentation but I wanted to share my opinion... Good luck going forward, much love from Canada, peace and plants 🌱

But the Blue Zones program is focused on a corporate strategy that offers no opportunity for grass roots to grow the program. So the program is really only for big corporations as part of insurance funding to make it work. The program can only work where major corporations dominate the job market with top down philosophy. In The Northeast, the program needs to let grassroots people get the momentum going and then they can engage the Executives. You need to let a club and team form first who can then influence the executives via financial cost reduction arguments. The program has a bad growth strategy.

Why didn’t he talk more about the Danes’ diet, which is heavy on meat and cheese? After all, they’re the happiest people in the world! Many of them still follow their traditional diet, which is so nourishing that they don’t crave a lot of junk food. I used to be a depressed, over-thinking vegetarian, so I did a lot of research about blue zones and found that pork is a key ancestral food in Sardinia, Costa Rica and Okinawa. Pork, which is the best source of many B vitamins and calming lysine and zinc, is also the most popular food in Denmark! I also found out that Northern Europeans have little ability to convert plant fats to brain fats DHA and arachidonic acid, so it’s critical for Northern Europeans to eat enough animal foods, as their ancestors have for thousands of years (following the lead of the Sardinians, etc., who eat their ancestral foods). These fats protect the brain myelin and the digestive system, thus preventing many “unhappy” problems, like aggression, OCD, narcissism, etc. The combination of adequate brain fat and high B vitamins from pork and fish calmed down the restlessness and sensitivity I felt as a vegetarian. Now that I follow my ancestral diet, I’m, simply, happy!
