I built my own lightweight Commander. Colt slide, a lot of Pachmayr pieces (built it when I was working for them), Bar-Sto barrel, aluminum long trigger, Millet combat sights, Caspian titanium frame, and Metalform magazines with Pachmayr bumper pads on the bottom of the mags. Slightly heavier than an aluminum frame, but stronger, and not very much heavier. I originally built this in about 1982 or 83, with a Federal Ordnance aluminum frame, and replaced the frame with the Caspian titanium frame about four years ago. Perfect carry gun.

Finally took it to the range and did a video just 2 days after you made this video so I could see how it did and I did with it. I must say what a smooth sweet shooter. I had the one brand of mag that did not lock back otherwise it was fine with originals and others. With the alloy frame it makes it a nice light EDC as well as having the bobbed mainspring housing and commander size. Really recommend the Guardian if you are a 1911 enthusiast. Thanks, sir!

I like the CMC 8 round magazines. They have an optional drop plate that you can add / remove and the magazine will sit flush with the bottom of the grip. The Wilson Combat 8 round mags are great too, but you can’t remove the drop plate on them which makes them stick out from the bottom of the grip a little bit. It’s not a big deal, but I like having my 8 round CMC mags to sit as flush as the standard 7 round mags that most 1911 come with.

I have a couple of ideas for you to play with. Big hands and that high thumbs hold that is so popular now, make sure it is not you hitting the slide stop under recoil and preventing it from locking back. Past that I would feed it Wilson Combat magazines. If it is neither of those I would jump on Wilson's website and look into a "bulletproof" slide stop. One last thing, for the sake of my OCD when the fine folks at Federal send you some hollow points, use those on the melon and two liters. They just go splat better. Take it easy and I love your channel.

@@hickok45 I didn't mean to imply that you don't know how to shoot. Just a few things to look at. Even Tiger Woods shoots a bogey now and then and keeps a coach on staff to help him.
