I'm thinking of a 1911 too. I'm not sure about a Turkish brand. My brother does have a eaa grisan. It's Turkish. First 1911 I've shot and I loved it. I think I might get a springfield. Maybe a rock island gi but I really don't like those gi sights. I feel like I know abit about guns but 1911s are a different conversion. So many different manufacturers you have to order and find out what mags the gun likes. That's to be expected with the ammo. But for mags that cost $50 that can't be returned... I'm still on the fence about it. I have a full time job maybe once we get an indoor range where I live I can get one sounds like a whole project. That's why I'm just considering the cheap rock gi.

@@michaelsherfield3749 I bought a Springfield Armory Garrison in blued steel. I went with the Springfield Loaded, the included night sights did it for me. I will admit though that the finish on the Garrison (both the Blued and Stainless) is aesthetically more pleasing than the more flat matte Nitrided finish on the Loaded. I agree about the slim factory grips and put a Pearce Grip rubber finger groove liner and a set of Houge G10 extended grips with the G10 mainspring housing. I absolutely love it, shoots like a dream, I feed it Barnes Vor-Tex solid copper 185gr out of Chip McCormick 10 rnd mags.
@svbarryduckworth6282 жыл бұрын
I REALLY like the extra-thin grips on a 1911. I've got small sausage-finger hands and a shorter trigger finger so I appreciate the lack of a long reach to the trigger. Double stacks are right out for me. Alumagrips sells a really paper-thin grip that can be done safely with a stronger material like aluminum than wood especially with deep checkering. Thin wood grips with deep checkering leaves too little wood left to hold together since wood isn't as strong as aluminum. The .45ACP doesn't have a sharp quick kick (especially on a heavier full-sized 1911) and instead has a big push slow impulse that is spread out over a longer time which is easy to manage without big fat grips for the recoil sissies.

Last year I bought my first Dan Wesson 1911 and now I am convinced that isn't so much the thickness of the grip as it is the bite in the it. I have switched all my grips over to VZ Operator IIs in all my 1911s regardless of manufacturer. They just dig into your hand in such a way that the gun isn't going anywhere. That is just my opinion.

Timely video. I've been in the 1911 frame of mind lately. I only have a single stage press, but I primed number of cases yesterday. Today I'll be loading as soon as my workshop warms up. I have my dad's 1911 and a Ruger American in 45acp. Love shooting both. I know I'll never wear it out, but I only shoot dad's 1911 a few times a year. Then I take my time and thoroughly clean it and put it away. Kinda makes me feel like he's there. The Ruger is a modern polymer pistol, but it's full size and holds 10 rounds. I shoot it better than the 1911...usage and practice does that. You may have just convinced me to buy this same 1911. I'm also intrigued by the new crop of Hi-Powers, but I'm hearing mix reports locally.

Just got this same gun, my 10th 1911 in almost 50 years of collecting. They range from 1943 Colt to a new Wilson Combat in only 2 calibers, .45 and 9mm. This gun is quickly reaching favorite status in the stable. Hickok takes exception to some of the ergonomics of this model, which is fine. As for myself, when I have one of John Browning's masterpieces in my hand, whether it has a long or short trigger, flat or arched mainspring, spur or skeleton hammer, thinline, G.I. , G10 or other custom grips it just feels like a natural part of me. I own and appreciate several of the modern 'plastic fantastic' pistols and a few wheel guns, but the 1911 holds a special place in my heart, and safe.

I was just going to say, that looks just like my Colt .45 Combat Commander. That was my first gun, and ultimately, my favorite. Last year I bought the Springfield Defender, which I guess was an homage to the original.45 that was issued to servicemen during the Second World War (and thereafter). I do, however, prefer the stainless steel finish of this Garrison (and my Combat Commander) to the parkerized finish of the Defender. I’ll definitely check it out. I’m still dreaming of a nice, new Wilson Combat, but I know if I buy one of those, I’ll be reluctant to shoot it! Springfield makes nice guns that do not break the bank, and are great shooters.
