Swiss authorities found that too many of their soldiers were using their guns to committ suicide on the weekends. they stopped the tradition of allowing their soldiers to take their guns home. subsequently the suicide rate has dropped dramatically. I was an armed security guard for 4 years before I changed careers. I remember 1 incident very clearly, where some guy hyped up on pcp started going off in the store. I know what pcp does to people so physically apprehending him was a big no no. so I called the police while I'm trying to verbally calm him down. the cops never showed after 35 min. then I see a squad car pull up I said to them thank you for coming the guy is over there talking to himself now. the cop had no clue what I was talking about they came to eat -_- they never even dispatched anyone. and as an armed guard they tell us we have no arresting power and to be very careful of how we do our work. now imagine if the guy was armed or is I wasn't armed anything could of happened. I like to believe because of my training and the fact that I kept my distance with my hand on my gun prevented the situation from escalating.

I was an armed guard for over 10 years and I worked an apartment complex with another guard(an ex-police officer) who had been previously shot while working at this same complex. He returned fire and killed the shooter. Before he was shot this was an armed post but after, the client decided he didn't want the guards to be armed anymore. That never made any sense to me.

People that aren't familiar with or never owned a gun, and don't know about guns, fear guns. Much like people that aren't familiar with or owned a large dog, and don't know about a large dog, fear large dogs. I think that these types of people share the same mind-set of trying to ban what they are ignorant about. People try to ban certain types of guns just like the try to ban certain types of large dogs. I see it, many other people don't.

actually dogs can be dangerous, just as cars, big dogs, airplanes with easily accessible cockpits or armed civilians onboard. which is why you have to have a drivers license, why, you're not allowed to drive drunk or while texting. it's why dogs have to wear line and/or muzzle, and it's why after 9/11 legislation was passed to make planes more secure. and by the way, the US ARE more or less the only western country without strict gun laws, another notable exception being switzerland. although even they have reformed their gun laws several times since 1999. still, if you check the statistics they have more deaths by firearms per capita than any other european country, or even most countries in the world (expept USA and south africa). guns kill people. and before you say people kill people, what about the 23 people shot in the first 5 months this year in the US by TODDLERS? wanna start a war on kids now? yup, there is no reason to ban all guns, but small arms and hunting rifles are a different thing than full- or semiautomatic assault rifles. you also can't just buy c4 or nuclear weapons, but i don't hear anyone (sane) complaining about that. same goes for drivers (or flying) licenses, but gun licenses are evil? shouldn't people be mentally fit to handle a gun? and what i understand the least, what's the problem with waiting periods when buying a gun? if someone really "needs" a gun NOW, something is probably fishy anyway. unless you absolutely want to shoot someone right i don't believe having to wait a week or should be any problem.

I was in the multi-family industry as a property manager, recalling one experience when I just checked into the office I remember one of my tenants would come down and wait for their med transportation service to pick them up in front of the office and this one time while waiting an individual came at them from the street casing them around a parked truck with a knife. I immediately call 911, telling police about the emergency taking place then the individual turns and walks down the street. The police only showed up after receiving another call about another person who was stabbed by this individual down the street. They finally came by the office asking if I was the initial call regarding the emergency..

I heard them receive a radio call of shots fired at a trailer park that was less than a mile away. They replied that they were responding to the call. Did they rush out to their car and drive away with lights and siren? No. They laughed. One of them said, "Maybe he'll be out of bullets by the time we get there." Casually paid for their snacks and strolled out to their car. I love cops in general. But not those two.
