It is simple, decreasing taxes => people and companies of every size prosper, but the goverment does not rob their property, increasing taxes => governments prosper, but people and companies stay poor. When I was 7 I remember vividly asking my mom why I couldn't have some power rangers toy we walked past in sears (this was a while ago....) she said my birthday was coming soon and she couldn't afford to buy me the toy that day with my birthday a few weeks away. It was some big play set I remember the price was $49.95. I asked mom why can't everyone have enough money for everything they want. She told me that if everyone could have everything, I'm time everyone would take and nobody would give and eventually nobody would be left making the toy I wanted in the first place. Socialism sounded great when I was 7, but by the time that 8th birthday rolled around I was educated on its faults. Hard to sit by today while grown adults are calling for something I learned would not work when I was a child.

Income taxes are 50-60%, sales tax is 25% and that includes on food, electricity and water. There are also tons of special taxes like 180% tax on the purchase of a car, and special taxes on things like beer and cigarettes. Denmark has the highest utility prices in the world, and an iPad costs twice as much in Denmark than in the US. Housing prices are ridiculous, and many Danes choose communal living to make ends meet. Only 1/3rd of Danish families have a car (in America its 91%). Also the average income of Americans is higher than the average income of Danes.

vertex2100 ...well it can be argued that the people received extraordinary social support in the form of free daycare...free schooling, free healthcare, excellent subsidized housing and 6-8 week annual vacations for every worker. If you add up the cost of these things and put that amount in the pocket of each citizen...instead of these services, thats how much the people get out of it. Having said that, Denmark and a few of the Baltic countries are in my opinion the only nations where socialism with a market economy can work, as they have a strong industrial base, education and are not so big that everyone needs a vehicle to get around and hence can live in proximity to most services and workplaces.. (...and even at this point, Sweden is already starting to feel an economic pressure to lower the social support it has traditionally given in the past....perhaps the influx of immigrants that have flooded in recently...has started this spiral)..

One correction though. Car taxes have been lowered to just 150% (but that is calculated after the 25% in sales taxes). On top of that an annual car tax is incurred. Depending on the size of the car, you will pay about USD 450. In terms of electricity tax, you pay about 900%. Electricity costs about 5 cents to produce per kWh, but we Danes pay about 50 cents, after all sorts of special taxes have been added. We have so many weird taxes. For example we pay a special volume tax on ice cream, but only after it has been fluffed by air. A jar of pickles is specially taxed. Besides the 25% in sales tax, there is a tax on the lid, the label, and on the vinegar. I could continue listing odd taxes, but you get the point. The thing is, that only a third is employed in the private sector. Another third is employed in the public sector, and the last third is unemployed, and on welfare benefits. The taxes have to be so high and omnipresent to fund the public spending. If you look at the wealth of Denmark and the trend you will notice that slowly but surely we are going the way of Venezuela. But like the frog most Danes never notice the water boiling around them...

As somebody who lived in Scandinavia and still has friends and family there, I always get angry when leftists try to portray it as socialist. Sweden WAS socialist in the past, yes. But guess what happened? The people did not want it anymore because it was decreasing wealth. @Not Suspicious Human The way I see it, Bezos is the model capitalist, his actions in bending laws and avoiding the government are in line with a free market ideology, and his massive hoards of wealth and legal teams, as well as use of foreign labor make it impossible for the government to regulate his activity in the same way as other smaller companies are regulated, and he often escapes justice for any violations because of his economic power and because of obscure loopholes that he is able to exploit through his legal teams, I need to look into bezos to support this last claim, thats what I see about him personally and would need to gather evidence to make a strong case. Essentially Bezos is a capitalist in every sense of the term, his only concern is maximizing profits, and bends the rules of society to do so, he is comparable to the nonphilanthropist oil barons of the 1800s and early 1900s. Also in regards to your question, people do sometimes move to countries with much stronger social reforms, like the social democracies of Canada, Europe, and Australia. These models are not socialist though, they are mixed or free market economies with the implementation of strong socialist policy to provide for the common welfare of everyone. There's reasons why people don't often immigrate but im not going to get into that, overall I've seen statistics saying about 50% of Americans "want to live in a socialist nation" which, in most peoples minds are the social democracies that I mentioned. The problem with places like Argentina, China, North Korea, and Russia is that they may have strong socialist policy, they also have massive problems in one way or another, Argentina for example has a 21 year socialist rule, and in that time embezzlement and corruption have been alleged in the government, especially with Chávez, this may not be accurate. It's also important to consider the long lasting instability of Latin and South America as a whole, in Argentina specifically there were several complete changes of government since the 1920s, often these governments were military dictatorships that ruled with terror and tyranny, these oligarchys were known for subsidizing foreign companies like what is not ExxonMobil, and holding wealth into the ruling class, they often dissentigrated constitutions and had well documented abuses of human rights with little to no regulation to protect workers in order to keep companies happy and as profitable as possible, there is well documented evidence of American support to these dictators, and US backed coups were common among these governments, only in the last 20-50 years have these nations had time to recover so its no wonder they're doing so poorly. Russia, China, and North Korea are all ruled by a distinct aristocracy, and fall into the category of dictatorships, with little press freedom, personal freedom and the failing of socialist reform in these countries a case can be made that they fail because of the governments and their abuses of power. I'm getting tired of this subject tbh, I've done way too much research and writing on it latly, and I personally suggest looking into the governments and the actual policy of the failed nations to find your answer. Also communism has never been done on a national scale to date, its a form of nonmarket socialism, and being as such cannot reasonably be done in a world ruled by money as removal of the market would mean the removal of money and a traditional market which cannot be done in the current world. The "communist" nations are more accurately totalitarian dictatorships with undeniable parallels to fascism, in fact they hit almost every mark of the fascist ideologies, no wonder they were called red fascists by other leftist groups. One last thing, American "socialists" are more accurately social democrats based off the policy they want

Some people advocate human rights while behaving like animals, hide behind mental illness or use a past injustice as an excuse. We cannot cater to users either it is just as destructive, which is why I appreciate the balance between democrats and republicans both ideals are necessary. Also why I am frightened at the mass censorship going on currently with big tech and mainstream, it’s like they want an echo chamber of democratic ideals which if left unbalanced, will cause a slow degradation of free speech.
