this should have been howard’s biggest regret not his robin williams interview. plus her son also later shot him self and i believe he was the one who found her dead. howard isn’t 100% responsible but i do think this show, especially the callers, and the whole drug test part- which was disgusting-led her to relapse/kill herself. she was obviously humiliated, triggered, and kept saying she was sick of having to defend herself and didn’t understand why these rumors were being said about it. So I can understand why she probably just wanted to give up after that. also she seemed lucid. she sounded like when i’m sober and get a little manic/excited , but she didn’t sound high. she was also pretty damn hilarious at times too, just sad all around. rip dana plato and your son.

There are tons of actors (especially child stars) who fell on hard times and had a sad ending - but Dana Plato really hit a nerve for me. It was so sad - especially listening to her in her last 24 hrs. RIP, Dana Plato & her son (whom she clearly loved - who took his own life almost 11 years to the date of his mother's death).

R.I.P. Dana. I would agree that Howard Stern interview was directly responsible for causing Dana's death. He in fact, made a series of inappropriate comments and subjected her to a lot of cruel words & experiences that led her to end her life, because she was just tired of fighting so hard to survive on her own. When she died, Howard put forth a lie saying that he did not have her hair strand after all. Dana is no longer alive to refute that. Howard Stern has blood on his hands, both of Dana's and her son's. He really has a remarkable gift of taking away all joy and pushing someone down the deep end. Don't forget that she had had a rough childhood, her unwed teen mother gave her up when she was born, her adoptive parents divorced at 3, her adoptive mother put her on 100 commercials when she was hardly 9! She was in Different strokes and the one reason she got pregnant at 16, marrying early was so that she could have a family of her own (as shared with Conrad Bain). Her husband left her, took custody of her child and she lost her adoptive mother that same week. Can anyone even imagine how rough things might have been!! She was just trying to survive in a tough showbiz world, with literally no support system. After all, she was denied of a normal childhood, with no life skills training, with no healthy support system. Instead her life was constantly wrought with stress, uncertainty and authority figures who took advantage of her naïveté. An accountant she trusted her fleeced her of bulk of her savings and completely disappeared. She wanted to come back to showbiz but people exploited her youth and vulnerability, making her do playboy, B grade movies. She tried to rob a video store, but immediately afterwards, gave herself up to the police on her own. She was finally happy after years of struggle wanting desperately, to get closer to her vision of a happy family life, to get closer to her son, to get access to better A-grade shows, and had been hoping to share her story of hope & new found positivity. If you listen to her talk, she comes across as a sweet person with good values, who was just lost and wanting to desperately find her way back to normalcy.

No way. You can't blame Stern or anybody else for her death. She had issues and went down a bad road for a long time before this even happened. It's really easy to blame others for things, but the reality is that mental issues along with just life in general. It was just a sad, sad situation, as i think anybody to have someone in their life that kills themselves.

This interview has been so inappropriate on multiple levels. Howard Stern took away all her visions of hope and gave her a lot of psychological trauma, that was just too much for her to process. Dana was being constantly counter-questioned and being asked to prove herself again and again. She was being honest, owned up to her past actions and just tired of the continual badgering on her honesty. Howard Stern was impudent enough to ask her to "pee in a cup" and provide a hair strand (in fact kept pestering her and pulled out her hair on the live radio show, without her explicitly giving him consent to do so), he placed a coke in front of her and dared her to prove herself. Not one encouraging word or a kind comment to a poorly, battered soul. There were so many objectionable comments rapidly thrown at her: "lovely breasts, that's actually a compliment, you better agree", "can't believe you were sober for 10 years, you expect us to believe that?", obsessively focusing on lesbianism, "did you see Janet Jackson nude? did you share a dressing room", "how can you lose all that money", "you don't look close to death", " you are crying?!", "your fiancé must have good dough", "how hard it is to manage your career", "you are a 34 and wind up with a 28 year old guy", as though it's her fault. I hardly can call that as a positive interview experience. Howard responded to sympathetic callers as "this is very touching, thank you" and cut them off too quickly. He was disgusting enough to make her cry and then said, "why don't you sit on my lap and let me make you feel better". She responded politely to all rude callers and howard responded "oh you are sounding very religious Dana" "You have more controversies than me". He kept making her cry and did not apologize for his harsh treatment, not even once. The lady anchor actually commented that people were being hard on Dana, for Howard to stop, that this is a weird show (when Howard pulled off a hair strand), and why are people constantly attacking Dana. She was trying to be sympathetic and ask better questions, but Howard cut her off to push forward his own agenda of continually victimizing Dana again and again. There's a picture of Dana with her son 3 days before her death, but when she talked of spending time with her son, Howard seriously doubted that. It's really sad to see how he systematically broke her spirit down by the time the interview ended. She sounded so positive at first and then could barely speak towards the end, without crying. Ironically, Howard Stern asker her about suicide, asked her about overdosing, whether she really will be able to spend time with her son again, that she needs to be tested to verify her sobriety claims, and even made a weird statement like "it would be really weird to introduce someone on the show and then find out they are actually dead. My take: Howard Stern was enjoying himself, even as Dana got severely traumatized and irreparably scarred by her radio experience. Once she died, Howard threw away the hair strand, lying that Dana took it back after the interview.

As far as I’m concerned those negative and cruel and downright disgusting callers should’ve been charged with manslaughter that is complete and total bullying maybe they didn’t directly caused Dana Plato‘s death but they had a hand in it yes it was just words but sometimes words can have more damaging affect than physical altercations. They need to take a look at their own backyards they weren’t in her shoes made Dana Plato and her son both Forever rest in peace.

Yes, she was responsible to taking her ultimate action, but Howard Stern’s show’s actions absolutely precipitated it. He couldn’t have foreseen it, but he should’ve known he’d eventually be the catalyst for someone else’s harm,
