The way they say that men who follow UFC are the types of men who Trump can gather because they “don’t follow politics and the news” is so offensive. Believe me. We follow the news and politics. The subtext there is “If they followed the news and politics they would be a Democrat. Cause who could read all of what is happening and still follow Trump.”

Typical condescending attitude of liberals. In their minds all MAGA are inbred and toothless.

I mean, they’re right. If you followed the news at all, you would see that Donald Trump is a sellout to the rich and the powerful. But you don’t watch the news, and only UFC, so you like Trump.

I wish this piece talked about how anti fighter pay Dana is. The NFL and NBA pay about 50 percent of revenue to the players. The UFC is about 20 percent, and it’s more dangerous the others. Zero health care for ex fighters who helped grow the sport. Also, low level fighters get payed lower class wages when taxes, coaches fees get included. The bench riders in the nba get close to a million.😊

these goofballs are never going to learn. they treat their fellow americans like a scientist looking at a bug under a microscope with no ability to rationalize or empathize or connect with them. reminds me of the anecdotes coming out of hillary's campaign "why wont these people listen to me?!"

The way y’all talk about MMA is so offensive. Yes, it’s very violent, still, how are you going to act as if violence in sports for our entertainment is unheard of when we spend millions on grown men giving each other concussions and breaking their bodies in football or seeing people literally die in boxing? MMA is a martial arts that is highly sophisticated with mixing all aspects of striking and grappling. I don’t even like the sport, but I even know this. And, the UFC has always had a right wing bias, many of the fighters love right wing politicians. You guys really need to be less condescending and actually approach things you don’t like with more objectivity and thought.

I think it’s maybe worth differentiating though that the entire point of the UFC is to have two trained fighters attempt to kill each other. Maybe there’s a lot of interesting sports-like dynamics going on within that, but the goal is still about spilling blood, and it’s kind of gross that it’s as popular as it is.

@@thomas5434@thomas5434, the objective is to win the fight, not "kill." it's no different than boxing; beside having more ways to win with grappling. And, how is that any different from you folks idolizing boxing, which literally has had people killed and disabled? Or does huddling around the TV to watch people try to take each other heads off result in them either breaking bones, disabling themselves, or getting permanent brain damage? You folks are incredibly hypocritical and aren't even factually correct. Personally, I only watch Track & Field, Basketball, and Football (real football with the feet) because those aren't barbaric. However, I at least take the time to understand things; you guys don't, and are why we lost so badly in November.
@debonnefacture-w1g
@debonnefacture-w1g 2 күн бұрын
@@thomas5434 the goal is to win the match by outsticking, grappling, or outscoring your opponent. A KO or Submission is just a by-product of that. Why are you misrepresenting the sport? Honestly, I'm not even going to waste my time as I don't even watch the sport, or I don't want to spend any time going back and forth with condensing liberals who are the reason for so many failures in November with another horrible 4 years to look forward to.

Acting like the UFC wasn't popular until 2020 then how out of touch and isolated from the average person are you? I've never watched a moment of these fights, but I've heard about it ever since the mid-2000s.

Also anyone else feel like this was a really shallow take on MMA? UFC has its problems, from fighter pay to sportwashing of right wing figures, but MMA is such a rich, diverse, and complex sport that it warrants the title "human chess."

People in the comments here are really getting offended about negative coverage of their favorite blood sport. Boo hoo, a New York Times reporter doesn’t understand why I like to watch two men beat each other within an inch of their lives. These reporters aren’t out of touch. You enjoy watching human cockfighting, and it’s weird.

Wow, I’ve never been so embarrassed to have voted for Kamala or Clinton. We are truly uncultured peasants in your eyes. It is like listening to 1930s socialites do a radio broadcast on boxing and talking down at all the working class people.

In a time where the NYT is all about equal representation. It’s an interesting fact how many of the names at the end who are the producers and editors of this podcast are women. Especially when it’s one about UFC. If this were about women’s health would it be appropriate if the majority of the producers/editors were men? I don’t think so.
