It seems to me that Cole is wise in the same way a child is wise: he hasn't been taught or told how things should be or how people should act, so he sees everything more or less objectively.
@sandrols78 жыл бұрын
well, as a spirit, he doesn't suffer from other emotions, like envy or, in Dorian's case, pride. He sees just compassion and cruelty. The world is, strangely much more black-white to him, that to the others. He's simple, though not one-dimensional.

"You let it keep hurting, because you think hurting is who you are..." Pretty spot on observation, and tbh a little too close to home; it's so easy to define ourselves by our pain. Dorian's been in pain for so long that he is AFRAID to heal, because what if there's nothing else left?
@rich1051414 Жыл бұрын
Eventually people will just settle with what they are. They find comfort in it as it's what they know, and they have survived with who they are so far. Change may very well be a change for the worse. It's easier that way.

It is moments like these where I wish we could have just thrown Celene, Gaspard and Florianne into a completely room during Wicked Hearts with Cole and let him go at it for a few hours. Random Noble: I haven't seen the Empress recently, or the Duke or Duchess for that matter. Random Noble 2: Well, these are supposed to be peace talks. They are probably just busy... --------- *several hours later* The three of them are curled up on the floor crying while Cole just stands there smiling. It hurt, pulling at the threads hurt, but like pulling an arrow out of a wound, it was the only way to help the hurt, to let it heal.

pieniaurinko I believe that the ''he'' in this case might be either a former lover that Dorian may have deeply cared for or might just actually be his farther.
@Pale0Enchantress7 жыл бұрын
That caught me too, though I felt it was rather unambiguous. The Father was angry over something he understands now was wrong to be so angry about. He was putting his image and expectations before his son in a very bad way. The father is repentant for more then his actions alone, he's ashamed of himself for feeling that way in the first place. It is in the past tense "hadn't meant" instead of "doesn't mean" so through Cole we know the father is very sincere about just wanting his son to be his son again rather then being motivated by something like getting his scion back to Tevinter. - For the conversation Cole had been using "He" for the father and "You" for Dorian so I feel it's pretty consistent about who the "He" is. This game had a fantastic script.

@@LiveLXStudios Going off other things Cole said to the Iron Bull, he can read people not near him if their pain is intertwined with the person he's trying to help. The Iron Bull said something about how Cole never knew his tamassran, so Cole shouldn't be able to know what she was thinking, but Cole said something like "Your pain touches hers". I'd imagine it's like pulling on a knot: if you pull on one string, then the connecting strings are affected as well.

@Magpie5yndrome8 жыл бұрын
It's a bug. There's one apparent fix for this that I saw somewhere. Uhm... what was it again...? Something about quests not completing in the list in the way they should. I think it was... go through journal entries of completed quests and click on the ones that are still highlighted. Once none are highlighted anymore, you should get the usual pop-ups saying that the quests are completed. That will complete the quests officially and the banter should start firing off as normal again since a lot of the banter is reliant on the story progression. And then do upkeep as needed, I suppose. This was a while ago and I haven't played it for months, but I think I remember it working for me.

I love Cole and Dorian, they are my two favourite companions in this game, but I especially love their interactions with one another, Dorian, despite his bravado, acts as something like an older brother would with their autistic younger siblings, he tries to explain things and let Cole ask the questions, acting in good humour most of the time but he knows when he needs to be firm and tell Cole not to question something and Cole just wants to understand and help but doesn't always get that in trying to do that he could be opening up old wounds that didn't heal properly the first time or that he can just be a bit much for some people who aren't use to the way he is.

Some say he'd make a good therapist but I'd say 90% of his dialogue is more akin to psychological torture, and harms rather than helps. He doesn't mean to, of course, but like a child, he doesn't understand.
@coltonwilliams41534 жыл бұрын
Which is why I say that he needs to spend a couple years interacting with people before he can be a good therapist. Of course, in cases like this, hurting Dorian like he is helps Dorian more. It’s like resetting a bone that healed wrong. Sometimes, you have to start by breaking it again.

@@gzapray7203 I suppose. I guess I just had the "pain gets worse before it gets better" mentality when I commented that. "You let it keep hurting, because you think hurting is who you are. Why would you do that?" Because it's like a broken bone. You can mend and heal, but the break still exists deep inside you, as a part of you. Like a broken bone, you can't remove it or cast it aside. The parts that aren't broken are still needed to keep you functioning. Sometimes, if you heal properly or heal enough, it won't bother you that much. Other times, often times, you learn to live with the pain in whatever way you can.

Love Dorian and Cole banter. Solas is always trying to maintain Cole's role as a spirit, and Varric is trying to pull Cole towards humanity. The other party memebers all seem different degrees of scared or stand off-ish around him - at least in the beginning. Meanwhile, it feels like Dorian is just curious about Cole. He doesn't seem to push Cole towards one or the other state of being and just finds him fascinating - even if Cole says some stuff that tears at old wounds sometimes

Just to be sure Dorian's father wanted to use blood magic to force Dorian into marriage with a girl. I was kind of having a hard time understanding what blood magic was. Can someone please give me a better explanation 😅 ik Tivinters are very traditional. They have to get married and have a hair to the family to make the perfect mage and to become the perfect *leader. (Which is called the *Magastirum correct?) So basically being gay in Tevinter was basically looked down on. It wasn't really acceptable beacause family's in Tivinter wanted to become important people for their government which it the Magastirum correct? If anyone has an explanation please do tell me. I kinda have a hard time following along at times. 😅 ik in Trespasser, Dorian was talking about leaving back to Tivinter to become part of the Magastirum because his father got killed and so that makes Dorian the hair of his family to become part of the Magastirum. Idk if the Magastirum is considered one person or a group of people from noble families in Tivinter.
@onyxrose43494 жыл бұрын
In Tevinter they care about the appearance over all else. "There is no blood magic in Tevinter", but if you want to get ahead as a Mage, you perform Blood Magic. Nobility, both in reality and in Dragon Age, need heirs to continue the family line(Alastair's story in Origins is founded around that kind of stuff as well). In Tevinter, a noble can't be gay because being gay doesn't produce children, doesn't produce heirs. Dorian refused to pretend to be straight and marry a woman and produce heirs, keeping his true feelings hidden. His father eventually attempted to use Blood Magic to force the issue. Blood Magic can be used to control other people(one of the main abilities in Origin's Blood Mage specialization was about puppeting an enemy). Dorian found out and their relationship crumbled into dust. Dorian's father dies just before the start of Trespasser, so Dorian will now be a Magister, able to change how the country works. The Magisterium is basically like the UK's House of Lords they advise the king, or in Tevinter's case the Archon, but they also deal more in day-to-day affairs like, say, a senate or the like. Hope that helps.
