Putting on my former painting professor hat here, we call this reflected light. It's essentially a hue that is bouncing off of whatever the color of the ground plane happens to be OR on the vertical planes, the color of the space around the subject. In a typical landscape, you'll have reflected green tones from grass (being very simple here) and blues from our oxygen-rich sky.
