I am watching this and it isn't the holidays and no one is coming to vist. I live alone and decided I really want to come home to a house that feels like I care enough about the person who lives here, ME, to make it look nice when I walk in and in the rooms where I spend time. Thanks so much. I made my lists, going to do my dishes!

I did this for the sixteen days before I had Cochlear Implant surgery this summer, because for a good time after I wasn’t supposed to do anything super physical. I took one area a day, sometimes just one side of one room and super cleaned it. Like baseboards and the whole deal. By the time my surgery date came around almost all of our fairly small house was spotless and it felt so good during my recovery to enjoy our home. Well maybe not enjoy, but it made my healing way more endurable.

I hear ya' Dana. I am definitely one who can turn "people coming over for dinner" into "I simply must reorganize my sock drawer." Not that dinner guests have EVER looked into my sock drawer.
@cristinas43982 жыл бұрын
Oh, but we IMAGINE that the guests will look into the sock drawer! I always assume that every guest will open my bathroom drawers and cabinets, my closet, my dresser drawers, my kitchen cabinets and drawers, and my fridge -- just out of curiosity to see how organized I am or am not. Er, how organized or unorganized I am. 😉 So it's extremely stressful to feel like I have to clean all the hidden spaces and that special "shove-it-in" junky drawer when guests are coming.

same! Then I find myself trying to justify it, as in, "if I'm supposed to 'take it there now' but the space where the item should go isn't ready to receive the items, I'd make a lot more progress if I prep those areas first (i.e. install that shelf I've been meaning to do... put away the clean laundry in the bedroom, so the blankets/etc in the living room can go in the laundry area...), THEN I can be more effective and efficient as I clean the 'public areas' of the house" and it all goes downhill from there. I have to keep myself on task and when on a time-constraint like this (14 day plan) the other "background projects" need to wait.

So glad I got to a place where I only have to do a swish and swipe of the toilet and perhaps some dishes before someone comes over! Took me years to get there, but I'm done in 5-15 minutes (without having to shove everything in my dryer, weird spot, but hey, it's a big dark hole that no one is gonna look into 😅😂). However, it depends on how long someone is going to stay: with longer stays (let's say half a day), I'll probably also be doing some dusting and mopping/ vacuuming, especially if some of the visitors will be children. With guests who stay overnight, I'll have to clean the bathroom and wash the bedding too. Generally my house is tidy enough for people to THINK it is clean 🤫 Just get it to be tidy and uncluttered and most people will think it's clean. It's the visual thing. It really works! At least for shorter visits. Will still be watching this series though 👍🏻

I like the dryer idea, but my luck is that it will be raining like crazy and my guest will say, “let me just throw this wet stuff in the dryer.” 😳 I can see myself running, trying to head her off, while screaming, “Nooooo!”, knocking people aside as I go. 🤣

Many years ago, when I had my first real job and apartment, I had my mother come visit for a weekend. For prep I dropped sheets and towels at the “wash and fold” laundry and paid for the service, stuffed all the rest of my dirty laundry in the trunk of my car, brought my mother to my house, and had a lovely time. We ate out/ordered in the whole time. That way I didn’t have many dirty dishes. P.S. I was flat broke by the time it was over, but my apartment appeared pristine and we laughed a lot. ❤️❤️

We've been remodeling since May of this year - all new tile flooring in the living/dining/kitchen/entry, all new cabinets, countertops, tile backsplash, not to mention painting all the walls, new baseboards. We are almost done at this point, and I've been decluttering, organizing and cleaning as we get areas back together. A week ago our pastor called and asked if we would host a man who was going to be our guest speaker at church this past weekend. My hubby, with still stuff to do on the cabinets, was hesitant, but I said "YES!" because I knew it would motivate hubby to get more done. The house was far enough along that I wasn't worried about it being perfect or anything. He wasn't coming to judge us, just to have a place to sleep and have a meal with us. Anyway, we hurried the tile guy to finish the backsplash, and my husband was putting the drawer fronts on the last of the kitchen drawers about 2 hours before Steve arrived. I had the guest room and bath all ready and the house was relatively clean and looked good. I even got a nap! We were ready and my house is much farther along than it would have been if I had said "no - no company". I can now go into the holidays ready to decorate. It's such a great feeling. So thanks for doing this challenge, Dana. Its' the perfect time of year for a little jolt before the holidays come leaping in.

This is brilliant tips and advice. Whenever I’m doing this “I wanna sort this out in such and such a time” I always write in what I’m already doing! So many people forget this,or underestimate how long things will take. This works especially well for people with chronic conditions, cos I can tell you, I’ve got to take my daughter to the dentist tomorrow, but it’s not just the appointment. It’s the travel their and back, the unpredictability of our bus system currently means you could be waiting an hour for your bus. Plus there’s the getting ready beforehand, and for me, I have many conditions and illnesses, which means that when I get home I know I won’t be able to just crack on and clean, I will probably need a few hours rest and maybe even a sleep. So all this is important to take into account, and I’m so glad someone finally said it! I’ve never watched heard or read anyone say this when sorting out a cleaning plan. So thanks Dana, and we’ll done! I’m not actually expecting anyone to come round, but I will take up the challenge, it’s my birthday in just under two weeks, so that will be nice to do it for that 🙂🦋💕

I have exactly 14 days before hosting an event so this is rather timely!! But I have an emergency plan in place which is to lay a new tarp inside the garage and cart the mess out there, LOL. Sometimes you just have to be creative. Can’t wait to see how much I get done with your plan. I feel hopeful so Thanks.

I've been decluttering for about a month now. I've been watching your videos and getting a lot of good information. Thank you! I'm having my family over for Thanksgiving and this video came at the perfect time. I'm feeling very overwhelmed like it's gonna take me at least a year to declutter but I'm gonna try.

In 2023, I'm calling this "Fourteen days to a baby-proofed home" because outlet covers and furniture tie-downs are important, but so is having a tidy home! (Edited for spelling and grammar.)

I have the same sense of humor. My laundry room has become a sudden priority when having guests over. Twice. My best friend and her daughter were overnight guests. We had fun walking through my laundry room every time we entered or exited the house!

Thank you. I only have two days, but the advice to focus on the room that we will be in is a good place to start.

We are hosting this year. Our big thing to tackle is our kids’ rooms since we are hosting grandparents and cousins. Plus, we like to do a big toy purge before the holidays. The kitchen is under control thanks to your methods.

Thanks Dana! Love this! Now that I'm older, I need more time to do everything, so I will make this my 21 day plan. I think I'll do the 14 day plan for my car.

No one coming to my place. I'm going out. But I am doing this. I want my home ready for the holidays. And the daily guidance will help me. I begin tomorrow, the 11th cause I have some organizational things for my kitchen I want to put together so they can be used now. I've saved each day in my KZbin lists so I have easy access. Perhaps I can also fit in a couple better in 1 hour declutter/clean/organizers.
