We're talking through getting your house clean and decluttered so you can let guests inside (or just enjoy the holidays with your family). I'm posting a video each day to guide you through the process and help you stay on track.
If you would like to get the 14 day guide in e-book form, go here and use the code youtube to get it for $4: www.aslobcomes...

No Líe Friends- now that I do my dishes every day, it takes NO TIME AT ALL to get my kitchen cleaned up! I’m seriously amazed at how 1- decluttering my house 2- tidying up every day 3- listening to Dana, Cass and Dawn every day have made such a HUGE Impact on my life, and I feel like they’re right there with me, while I’m doing the decluttering and cleaning!

Agreed. 4-5 months ago I never could have believed I’d keep a relatively clean kitchen for months on end…the single task of staying on top of dishes just seems to keep the rest of the kitchen up. It’s astounding. I still have a ways to go with my home but the transformation in the kitchen has proven to me I’m taking the right advice!

I didn't have any trash to sort through but put several items into their rightful place; unloaded the dishwasher, hand washed a few dishes, cleaned the glass on the front and back doors; kitchen and bathroom mirrors, and living room lamp; cleaned the light covers on the stove, and am washing towels now. I sorted through a bin of items that belong(ed) to me and my deceased sister. I was able to let go of half of it. Thanks for giving me motivation to work on a few tasks each day. Smiles...

Ok I saw you had this up and put it ahead of Jesus Calling. That’s not good. But dang you look great in that shirt. I’m not doing the 14 days because thanks to you I don’t need to!! I’ve got both of your books and used them. I listened to your podcasts and laughed while I did the decluttering. Now I watch you for fun and tips. Plus I’m going away (to Texas!) for the holidays so no guests! Anyway, Dana this is your mission. You have no idea how much you validated and helped me. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving a d Christmas. ❤️

I think some days we need to do the "Mary thing" and some days the first priority can be the "Martha thing" its about balance I reckon. It's hard to give Jesus the best of us while feeling uncomfortable about a messy house.

Hi Dana, I've just finished listening your books, twice. Thank you so much for writing them, and then reading them to us! I have feeling that these books going to change my life, i still processing them, but some little shift already happened. Keeping visible spaces never was a problem for me. I stash, that is my problem. When you said in your books, "hmm, it's useful.." , i can totally relate to it, that's the way I think about things. Here is my first little step. I've purged half of my food stash, which isn't that difficult, to be honest, coz I'm a feeder, i like to share food. Next, hopefully, it will be my office. I am a crafter for my job, a professional seamstress. Said no more. My sewing room is disaster, and I'm looking at it, and i sigh, and I think "nope, too busy to do this". I think about approaching my space of work as a whole other "house", divide it into segments and declatter each one using your two questions. Wish me luck! 🙂

Same! I’m reading her books through again right now. I’m still stuff shifting sometimes, but I am getting rid of much more. I also love to sew. I had most of my sewing supplies in modular wire shelving cubes. I tried to clean it and it all came crashing down on me! Now I REALLY have to declutter it. I threw out the shelves. Hate throwing away fabric.

Yesterday’s video made me realize how enormous this task is for me! Due to the house size and lack of guest space…. They are going to be in every room AND I have to make new sleeping arrangements for displaced family members and my dogs to accommodate in-law guests. This wouldn’t be such a big deal if we weren’t also doing house renovations and still mostly packed. Pffffff. So much going on. Still, this gives me a guided plan to tackle the most important stuff and I can see where I can pawn off… I mean “delegate” some of the tasks to other family members. On to today’s video homework….

I can tell you from experience that it does get better! The kids are only little for a little while and they get to be more independent (and helpful if they’re taught), but even if you add to your family, you’re more experienced as a mom and things will go smoother because of that. You’ve got this!
@saskiaroubos9348

I don't have kids, but I would suggest watching some of Jill's video's on At Home With Jill here on YT. Also a young mom, homemaker, homeschool mom with 4 kids under 10, I think, youngest being 3 (+ stepson not living fulltime with them). Does a lot of cleaning, decluttering and DIY videos, however, she also shows that homemaking isn't as easy as some make it seem online. She keeps it real (including the dirty feet, frustrating moments and a gazillion things hiding under the couch). I think it might help you feel less anxiety in trying to get everything right. Allow yourself time, space and grace to grow 🤗 Also allow yourself to see perfection in imperfection: if it were meant to be perfect it would be. However, it is exactly how it is supposed to be (otherwise it would be different) and that is what makes anything and everything perfect. Have faith that there's a time and space for everything. If something doesn't work out now, it's not the time or space for it to work out. It might work in the future, or maybe you find you never needed it in the first place. Enjoy the journey, stop resisting. Speaking from experience from my own search for balance here, winding road...but lots to experience 🦋

Room time is a container concept! Watching at the 6-ish minute mark and this lightbulb went off! So, as someone who really needs this 14-day sprint, what can others share on the far side who have gotten their homes under control. How much time a day does it take to keep up? Do you also need to do periodic sprints?
@6butterflywings6
@6butterflywings6 2 жыл бұрын
I’m half there. Dishes twice daily and train everyone to load everything they use (when it’s available) in the dishwasher. I end up with the pots, pans, and anything that didn’t fit. One floor a day (roomba helps with this!). One cabinet front wiped clean while I’m doing coffee/tea. Clean one part of each bathroom you use (whatever looks like it needs it, don’t need to clean everything!). I still do sprints, but usually for things I hate just before anyone comes over (dusting has gotten bad since they started building new homes nearby, and I’m not keeping up as well as I should). I’d say the biggest help was my kids growing up and decluttering. I’m going to be a minimalist someday. Maybe. ;) Except I still like my crafts.

It really depends on the size of your place and family... For my 3 person apartment it takes about half an hour daily, an hour if you count cooking, to get things to function well and not pile up. Decluttering has become an ongoing thing. Basically if an object is more often picked up/cleaned than enjoyed it goes. This way, when I start cleaning my kitchen/bathroom/floor, nothing needs to be put away before I do that.

Question: Does the list of rooms in order of how much time guests will spend in each room JUST include the rooms where gusts will spend time? For example, in my house that would be: living room, dining room, kitchen, downstairs bathroom, upstairs bathroom. But I wouldn't put on the list: master bedroom, study, daughter's bedroom, son's bedroom, finished basement rooms, laundry room, workshop? Or do ALL the rooms in the house go on the list, but the unlikely-to-be-seen rooms are at the bottom of the list?

I have overflowing bookshelves in my living room. Can I pull out duh donations in order to put away new books I want to keep?

Of course! Just don't get distracted and spend all your time on that if you are working toward the goal of being ready for guests at a certain time. You can always pull out duh donations and add the new books at a later date.

Das one I was like "yeah lets do this, this is changing my life" Day two Im like "No, I cant. I cant. I cant. I cant do this. Time I have during the day: zero" Im so frustrated and overwhelmed, I dont even know what to do. Im already in therapy because im so burned out and Im taking pills to push me in the morning. Whenever I ask anyone for help, no one is willig to help. I dont know what to do. I cant do this anymore..

I don’t have help either. We might need to adjust our expectations of what can get done. Sometimes survival mode is valid

My office is our procrasta clutter. Somehow things just "appear" in my office when I'm not in it. I have to get it done. Also have to figure out spaces for my plants, to come in, with frost coming in. So, declutter, here I come.
