Probably, the part of "and the Mysterious Village" comes from the first Layton game (I'm talking about the japanese title. In the english version, it was changed to "and the Curious Village"). Layton games uses an art style similar to WMT.

@@LucyFerr000 To me, this is a reference to the pre-Ghibli show Heidi: Girl of the Alps. Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata worked on Heidi: Girl of the Alps and Anne of Green Gables before they founded Studio Ghibli. Even after Miyazaki and Takahata left, they still heavily influenced the future World Masterpiece Theatre shows.
