Funnily enough, in the original this whole thing would've been avoided if James just kept his mouth shut lol

In the Remake, James' crosshair doesn't tighten for accuracy while aiming. Instead, it shakes when you attempt to make James focus. James is afraid because he doesn't want to kill another human. But it wasn't japanese people translating. Jeremy Blaustein translated the japanese script and he's american. Nobody in the original was meant to sound normal and like in "real life" except Mary and Laura, because none of them are in the right frame of mind, including James, and they are in a dream/nightmarish reality, something in between worlds. The characters sounding odd and disjointed was an intentional decision inspired by David Lynch, who does this type of thing in his works.

While the boss fight is objectively superior in the Remake, both the original and the remake's characterisations are great as they focus on a different angle for Eddie's character. The original makes it very clear that Eddie is suspicious and knows more than he lets on. And as the game progresses it becomes apparent that he has always been a violent, sadistic, manchild who constantly projects his insecurities onto others. All the while he sees himself as the victim and uses the guise of a fool to make sure people don't ask him any questions or consider him a threat. By the time we get to his boss fight, he just stops pretending. Whereas Remake Eddie comes off as more *genuinely unstable* on top of all the faults the original had. Like someone who really did need professional help, but now has conceded himself to his own madness.

In the OG, Eddie felt a little insane from the get-go, whereas with the Remake, we got to see more of a gradual descent into madness on his end. The result is that OG Eddie feels a little more surreal/nightmareish from the start, whereas with the Remake, he doesn't really become nightmare fuel until the end...but the nightmare is arguably more powerful since we saw the original state that he degraded from. Both approaches work well...but if I was *forced* to pick one (and thank goodness I'm not, because I like them both), I think I'd have to go with the Remake.

There are two different performances going on here. The OG is deeply disturbing and twisted. It really reveals how absolutely demented Eddie was since the get go. The remake's performance tears your heart open because its so awful in the best way possible.

James' dialogue after the OG fight, especially after he repeats that he killed "a human being" was a big catalyst to my doubt for the whole "Mary died 3 years ago" idea on my first experience of SH2. Although the Remake makes it feel like similar thoughts are going through his head, we don't get that seedling of doubt that grows even more with the scene between him and Laura at the start of the hotel area. It's a shame it isn't in the Remake, but it's still amazing even without it imo

I like to think that instead seeing 4 types of monsters like James, Eddie mostly saw monsters that looked like dogs and his bully manifesting. For Eddie to get a redemption, he probably needed to come to terms with his deeds and at least once spare his bully, but he never did ALWAYS resolving to shooting the manifestation mocking him and finally he died still blaming everyone else never reaching peace.

Of all the bosses in the remake compared to the original game, this is the only one I prefer in the original, especially because the scenes and the soundtrack generated a lot of tension. Also, although in the remake you understand the same thing, something I liked about that fight in the original was the end where James was expressly in shock not only for having killed Eddie, but for having killed "a human being" and that was noticeable in his voice, since then he began to doubt whether what he believed about Mary and the reason she was in the town was true.

Gotta hand it to the remake here, personally. Most of the dialogue from Eddie, I could go either way on, but the fight itself, James' interaction with Eddie, and his silence after killing Eddie contrasted with OG James exclaiming his horror at killing a person, all just feels much more real and interesting to me. The fight alone looked pretty pathetic in the original game.

Maybe it is because, Eddie had killed a lot of that athlete repeatedly and finally it made him snap and become a cold-blooded serial killer in mindset
