People, both are good and both have their good stuff. Atp is a matter if preference, or well, which one you grew up with. Og Angela is presented as mature and composed for her age, even giving come backs in her dialogues and being very firm in her behavior, being condescending and even teasing sometimes. But that makes her weak moments stand out. In the apartments you even think she is somehow possessed, how she goes back and forth between clearly suicidal and scared, to her usual "calm" self. And all of that finally breaks down in the Abstract Daddy scene when we finally see her break down despite her own efforts to remain "strong" (how she treats James right before talking about her father again). Remake Angela is more visually disturbed and confused. When we first meet her a conversation barely starts cus both she and James struggle to start and continue the convo. She clumsily gives James directions while also explaining why she is there. And from that first encounter her behavior drags on. In the Apartments she remains visually into contemplating suicide the whole scene and is less condescending with James, but rather detached, she looks and feels so alone and hopelss, but James snaps her out of it to which she finally asks him to take the knife away from her. And in the Abstract Daddy scene is the same, she is clearly on her lowest and even after defeating "her father" she really doesn't recover at all until breaking down completely. Og Angela is a young girl that tries to be and pose as an adult and create an image of a strong personality to cope and survive, but said defense is really fragile and futile. Remake angela is constantly hopeless, awkward and uncomfortable. She doesn't pretend to be mature or alright but tries to "escape" from any situation as quickly as she can. Until she no longer bears with herself and wants to end it all. Both are good.

As someone who's been through something very similar to Angela. I can say that the remake. Angela comes across more realistic. It's clear that she is trying to protect herself. She seems to visibly disassociate at times. She also seems to express guilt when she comes out of that fight-or-flight mode. I really like remake, Angela. It spoke to me. To the point where I kind of hope she gets her own game. I know she won't but I hope she does

Am I the only one that likes the newer one better? Angela is supposed to be a broken 19 year old girl, not a mature adult. The remake captures the image of a broken teenage girl's mentality far better- Angela is resigning herself to the miseries she faces instead of putting up a fight. She has no reason to live or to care any longer. She's supposed to be hollow and depressed, not fierce, aggressive, and sassy. Angela isn't in any condition to be risking fights with the wrong people- she's literally been battered and abused her whole life.

On one hand, the new version is indeed a much more grounded, more depressed, more subdued version. The original is a much more manic, much more bipolar version (which BP can develop as a result of trauma), and one that incidentally became more symbolic (given the different between her appearance and her actual age). It’s just a different approach to the character. I think the new Angela works really well when they focus on that new emotional approach, but it pales in comparison when they try to replicate the same emotional beats as the original. For example, I think the new Apartment scene is better, while the staircase scene is better in the original

Apparently they show more in the original because Angela doesn't like to be touched, there are three instances in this scene where James tries to comfort her by giving her a hand to stand up or smth but she just becomes defensive and aggressive while in the remake James doesn't get close. Yes, it doesn't change anything but it's an important detail. I feel like because we play as James, he seems normal and he tries to help Angela but Angela is insane all the time, she changes her attitude constantly and. She is more expressive and fidgety in her movements like she doesn't know what to do with herself when James tries to approach her and she just becomes afraid. while in the remake she is depressed and fed up with the whole thing. Og is bit better overall imo. This tortured, auffering child in a womans body comes out so much better. She is scary on one side and on the other u just want to hold her. In my time in the "Hospital" i met patients like that and this old scene is extremly real. New VA did a very good Job, but the whole package lacks a bit. Maybe because age seems a bit too young in thr remake. Otherwise she only should be 19 i think?! So...maybe i am just nostalgia driven. Can't really pinpoint it. But i really like the VA. The voice acting in this scene for new Angela was alright, which makes me more confused as to why she fudged so badly in the staircase scene. It’s like night and day.

1:36 when i was 15 in 2015 I didn't understand this scene in the OG (or maybe my context of English is absurdly bad) but now when I noticed I was mind-blown away because of how well the direction, Tsuboyama-san did an absolutely incredible job of story-telling without doing story-telling lmao. Angela did a ton of non-stop weird acting things and back then I kept focusing on the subtitle, so I couldn't understand at all. She remained the creepiest girl beside Maria to me and she was always in my head to find the question of why she was there. Now I found out she's the most tragic girl of all the damned souls in that town. The Remake is beautiful but didn't capture them all.

I like both versions. Nowadays, you couldn’t recreate the original in the same way-and why should you? The original stands on its own: it’s unbeatable and unique. It has cemented itself in the minds of fans, but it’s also a product of its time. Bloober Team gave it a more realistic touch on purpose, moving away from the Lynchian style. Both approaches work well on their own terms. I deeply appreciate the original, but I also respect that Bloober Team didn’t simply try to copy it with better graphics. They aimed to modernize the game and make it more accessible, especially to new players experiencing it for the first time. I’ve seen many Let’s Players who call themselves die-hard fans of the original. While they praise it endlessly, they can’t help but stifle their laughter during the cutscenes. It’s obvious they find some of the scenes awkward or even cringey, despite their best efforts to keep a straight face. A snide comment often slips out, even when they’re trying to show respect for the game. That’s because, back then, it was the thing-and those of us who played it remember how well it worked on us. That’s nostalgia. But for people experiencing the original cutscenes for the first time today, it’s often hard to understand their impact without the context we had back then. To them, the scenes just come across as dated and strangely old-fashioned. They feel dated. Still cool for us fans, but let’s be honest: it’s the rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia. And that’s not a bad thing. We just need to recognize that the old dialogue wouldn’t feel quite right today. In the remake, they only made changes where it was absolutely necessary. Even if they had kept the Lynchian style, I’m convinced the dialogues would still have been updated-perhaps staying closer to the original in tone, but still with a refreshed script. In the end, we should remember that the remake didn’t take anything away from us. On the contrary, it breathed new life into the Silent Hill franchise, and that was much needed. Maybe now we’ll finally get a brand-new entry that truly lives up to the name, without compromise.

The original uses Lynchian dialouge to accsnt Angela's apparent Borderline Personality Disorder, which came as a result of the constant absuridity that was her father and brother raping her and her mother blaming her for what happened to her. It focuses on what she has become and the town is triggering her symptoms, and the style of dialouge only adds to the scenes offputting and disturbing levels of horror. Since the remake went for a more traditional method of acting, they instead focus on the emotional profundity of Angela's trauma in lieu of her Borderline Personality Disorder, as the remake seems to focus more on emotional acting due to the much improved facial animations thanks to the advancements of game technology. Unfortunately, not trying to find a middle ground between Lynchian and traditional acting in the later scene with Angela undercuts her Borderline Personality Disorder and the distrubing nature of this scene. This is more apparent in Angela's final scene on the stairs in the Lakeview Hotel. Her seemigly different personality lacks a level of bite in both scenes, more so at Lakeview than here, and comes off as though this is the same Angela, if that makes sense. I grew up with someone with Borderline Personality Disorder in my family and their tone would shift with their mood, as though they were a different person entierly. There is not much, if any at all, tone shift in the remake. It doesnt help that they remove the fleshy walls with the orifices and pistons moving through them meant to imply sexual assault. Yes, you see the fleshy orifices and pistons seperately later in the boss fight; however, it not existing in this scene minimizes the impact the original scene had, and I'd argue that the imagery is more blatantly obvious atportraying said message which I feel dilutes the offputting and surreal evocation the original imagery had. It also doesnt help that the remake seems to trade the focus on body language in the original - a focus that was meant to makeup for the lack of technology to properly render facial animation - for a sole focus on facial animations, rather than containing both. For the most part, I really enjoy how the remake handled most of its cast (James, Eddie, and Laura) but I ended up feeling a little underwgelmed with how Angela was handled. She started out great, as her earloer scenes had a nice middle ground between Lynchian and Traditional acting, properly accenting her Borderline Personality Disorder during moments of instability, but it slowly started to dull from this point on.

That James's responses are often what one would resort to by default rather than that of a unique character. She said Henry was the worst offender in terms of personality. I dislike her new model because I loved how the old one looked. The original Angela had this dark, sad, burdened appearance to her. Sharp, shadowy features and empty eyes. The new model doesn't reflect the inner darkness and struggle as well as the original imo. Not to be super negative, but I'm even more concerned about her voice actor. She sounds almost cheery and FAR too outgoing for a suicidal character like Angela. Angela is supposed to be near the point of giving up on life. She's melancholic, lonely, sad and depressed. The voice actor in the remake do NOT reflect this at all.

THAT is why I don't like the new Angela. Kind of hard not to compare it with the old one seeing as the old one successfully reflected all of these deep issues much better. Personally I've always hated campiness, I find it cringey/funny and super distracting. I've never been able to get through more than 5 min into the original, so I really appreciate the remake. Setting mere appearances aside, it's funny how the original actually had more emotion in the facial animation than the remake. Remake Angela looks like she has botox keeping her from changing facial expressions. Honestly the voice-acting lacks emotion too. You can say the original was a bit hammy at times but frankly I'll take a bit of ham if it actually sounds like the character is FEELING something. The remake just feels flat on all fronts.

Overall, I like new Angela better. A lot of it has to do with the dialogue being put together better. Even her look is very good in the finished version, her face isn't chubby at all. I just think unfortunately she won't ever escape all the backlash from that older trailer and because of it, people are quick to discredit. Maybe in 5 or 10 years when all these nostalgia lunatics find another game to break their furniture over, people can re-evaluate this in a new light.

Or maybe you can break your recency bias in 5 years and notice the monotone voicework. The OG has a lot of issues but way more emotion and range. Hopefully you re-evaluate that your view is not fact and stop breaking your furniture over a team unable to render a lady. It's not only her eggman face but look at the proportions of her head to body ratio. Compare that with the original rendering and you will notice it's way off. That is if you can set bias aside for a little bit.

For your information Bloober Team worked closely with Masahiro Ito, the art lead for Silent Hill 2, to provide input and help guide the remake to be more in-line with their ideas. Ito provided concept artworks and character designs loosely based on the source material, the new actors/actresses, Bloober Team’s own ideas and the consultancy firms they worked with to provide input, shaping the character designs we see in the remake. You can see this in the artbook DLC for the Silent Hill 2 remake. They also worked with Akira Yamaoka, Silent Hill 2’s original composer and sound designer, to do most of the music and some sound design for the remake. I think it’s rather lucky that Masahiro Ito and Akira Yamaoka collaborated on and supervised the remake, because if they didn’t, it would have deviated even further from the source material.
