Those IP-addresses have no effect on how well your wifi works. It all depends on how crowded the frequency spectrum is, i.e. how many devices there are competing from the bandwidth. IP-addresses have absolutely nothing to do with that. Networking technologies are built on layers so that the physical radio transmitter knows nothing about the IP protocol (of which the IP addresses are part of) and vice versa. See e.g. "OSI model" for more reference. Your router just creates an IP-address space and devices which connect to it just get some address from the router, other routers may use same addresses but they use different radio spectrum and encryption to connect to other devices. In fact devices can connect to multiple networks simultaneously but in that case they must know which one to use for each address.

Correct. IP addresses are assigned per network, so the IP adress range you chose really only matters for devices that are connected to your router. There is no such thing as crossover between IP adresses.

For a bit of extra information: When there is interference with the wifi, having a different IP address may not solve the problem. Use your router at 5 GHz and use one of many phone apps to see wifi activity on the channels of the selected frequency. Whichever channel has the fewest devices using it, switch your device to that channel.

Hi, great video as always and great piece of gear. We use it in our rehearsal room, which is used by 7 bands, 1 band per day of the week. Very easy to save and recall the settings of the machine used by the individual band. The only thing I am missing is Din5-Midi In/Out which would allow integrating a midi network without a separate interface. Interestingly, it is hardly available in any large music store in Germany for months now. Either they are working on a new version or the chips or containers are not available.

@DanBakerMusic Жыл бұрын
Hi Jan, on the UI 24, you can stereo link auxes, by tapping and holding on aux 1 master and selecting stereo link. That means that aux 1 and 2 become a pair. Then run two XLRs into your headphone amp. I use a Behringer headphone amp and for that, I have wired two XLRs into a stereo Jack. Inside the XLRs, short pins 1 and 2 and run them to the ground wire of the Jack, and then pin 3 of one XLR goes to the tip of the Jack and pin 3 of the other XLR goes to the ring of the Jack…

The fan to Connect is a two pin or three pin? There are many options
@DanBakerMusic Жыл бұрын
Mine was a three pin, but the outer two were power and the third a control voltage, usually being from a temperature sensor that cuts the fan on and off as appropriate. The fan should come with basic documentation to say which is the control wire, which can be ignored as it’s not used on the UI24

If You don't connect to the internet, You can use any IP You want. Being online, You absolutely must use IP from one of the private ranges, ex 172 . 16 . 1 . 1 . It is also a good practice to scan nearby area for a free wifi channel. How did You get rid of random reboots? Were they a thermal issue, solved by a fan?
@DanBakerMusic3 жыл бұрын
It did seem to be the case that a fan solved the rebooting issue... I understand that one can use any IP address, it’s just keeping away from the usual 192.168.x.x that also helped keep band members’ phones from steering away from the mixer...

@@DanBakerMusic You can also disable ssid advertising on the router. This way no one will see the wifi at all, except ones who explicitly type it's name and password to connect.
@WarLooch3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. It definitely is a great mixer. A little background of the IP and power outage info in case you’re interested… The reason why we use the octets 192.168.x.x and 10.x.x.x are because they are non-routable (by design with use of IPv4) and used for private networks. Generally we use .1 for the DHCP server (in this case your router which happens to have a built-in DHCP server) - just as a practice, but not a rule… well, except for some manufacturers who never read the IPv4 specs. Finally, (and this is just in case you’re curious and will help you in no way :)) - contrary to what most musicians think, we don’t need a router to access the mixer. Rather we’re only using it as an access point. If we needed a “router”, then it would route our traffic to-and-from the internet. However we tend to purchase inexpensive home routers for our mixers because they are easy to setup, come with a built-in DHCP server, are used as access points, have wireless capability, and are low-cost (both for the consumer and manufacturer). Oh, and regarding the power drop-out. 99% of the time it’s due to the USB recording. When Soundcraft made the Ui24R they inadvertently ran out of power by the time they got to the USB ports (I’m simplifying it). So, most USB keys will draw too much power when multitrack recording (you can find docs online or in fb forums that discuss it in more detail). Most people get around it by switching to a low-power-draw USB key *or* using a powered USB hub (which will give the USB recording device all the power it needs without hindering the mixer unit). Hope that helps.

Hi. Great info. Some questions I have would be: 1) How do you run videos with sound using the UI24R? 2) If the amps are on the end of a snake is that ok? 3) What if you have some other sound inputs on the other end of a snake? 4) Does it have RTA auto room EQ?
@DanBakerMusic Жыл бұрын
Hi there-with reference to your questions: 1. Not sure. There are no video facilities built in to the UI24r, but in terms of sound, of course any video players sound can just be plugged into a couple of inputs on the mixer. 2. Yes this is fine to run amps at the other end of a snake, but they should remain balanced signals, that being XLR to XLR or XLR to stereo Jack. 3. Not sure what you mean here, but it’s best to run inputs to the mixer and outputs from it on separate snakes really. Minimizes crosstalk and the possibility that a very hot output signal doesn’t interfere with weak mic signals. 4. Yes you can set this up on monitor outputs and main outputs.

I understand that I can log-in to the user interface with iPad or phone, then to store the snapshots and shows (folders of snapshots). However, in my home studio set-up, I would like to set-up everything, then next time, when I turn on the Ui24R, it automatically use the snapshot I chose to be "as default". so my questions is, 1) what is the default start-up "snapshot" that the Ui24R will offer when turned on? (without any log into the UI to adjust?) is it the "factory default snapshot" or the one from last time when it was powered off? 2) can I set-up a snapshot A as the snapshot I always get when the power is turned on without me logging into the user interface? despite I end up using multiple other snapshots and turned off with snapshot X, Y or Z? The reason I'm asking is, I'm using the Ui24R at my home studio and once I've set them up, I don't want to get into the UI interface (iPad, browser, login etc) to select the snap shot A (which I like to use every time when I turn on the power) but to directly enjoy the music.

minute 6:30 The WiFi frequency channel and IP address space are being confused here. 172.xxx.xxx.xxx address space (subnet) is fine. But this does nothing to prevent WiFi interference. Choosing a WiFi channel that is less busy is the way to go if you want to solve that problem. Security is maybe the issue he is trying to address. Choosing a less obvious address (and I'm guilty of this too sometimes) is what we IT folks call "security by obscurity". The way to go here is to have a secure wifi network. So pick a less busy channel, and secure your wireless network. BTW, channels 1, 6, and 11 are the non overlapping channels for 2.4GHz I think this is less of an issue with the 5GHz range. I would actually recommend wiring the UI24R to a wifi router which uses newer wifi protocol. One that utilizes both 2.4 and 5 GHz. like 802.11n. Just my thoughts. Thank you for making the great video.
