This was such an inspirational video and it makes me so pleased to see the collaboration of dance and sport science growing. We need more of this!

Thanks for sharing!!! Well it's about time that this has come out to the public at large! I am a former professional dancer with my background in Modern dance and Jazz, as well as Circus Arts but not starting until after I graduated from Highschool. I was also involved in Baseball, Football and Track and field throughout my early schooling years growing up. So I was always physically active. The one thing that I always knew that would be beneficial was to train my whole body in other ways other than just Dance. I always had an interest in the mechanics of the body and I trained to use perfect form outside of my dance training. This I know saved my body over the 18 years of my professional career. I received my National Academy of Sports Medicine certification as a Personal Trainer (CPT). It wasn't only the knowledge of the certification that I feel helps me to help others it's having been in a sport that takes your body into movement like no other. That along with my Certification as a Massage Therapist (CMT) gave me an even broader understanding of the body and it's functioning. What made me even more passionate about the importance and effectiveness of assessment and building your body as an artist/ athlete/dancer, was when I received and injury outside of my profession which ended my dance career (a broken ankle). Regular physical therapist were equipped to work with a high performance athlete, nor were any of the physical therapist who were working with dancers or other athletes at the time fully aware of what a dancer takes their bodies through. This personal knowledge encouraged me to make a difference not only in my own rehabilitation but to be able to help other dancers as well. I can see a performance on stage or even on television, (So you think you can dance is an excellent example) and see placement or movement during the show and think. "Ooo, that dancers isn't going to last long", and sure enough, that dancer was out of the show the next week. I've been working full time as a CPT as well as CMT since 2000. My goal was to help people find their imbalances to further maximize their potential. Now living in The Hague, Netherlands I work with the Netherlands Dance Theater physio team as a Masseur but I also have my own practice and own my own personal training center, Mindful Motion Center, where our main focus is body weight training and Barefoot Science (I'm a Certified Barefoot Training Specialist® with Evidence Based Fitness Academy). I work and have worked with many of the professional dancers at NDT and the progress and results of working with them are almost immediate. Focusing my work with them in personal assessment to pull up their weaknesses and further enhancing their strengths. I have been advocating to teach this type of programs to incoming students which as stated in this video, "I think that this is something that should be in EVERY national ballet school. It would benefit dancers early on!" Listen up Directors! I'm still hungry for knowledge and if Patrick were to ever have an intership for others who work with dancers for injury prevention I would love to be on the top of that list! Again, Thanks for sharing and making this important informational and educational video!

This is great but how can we learn from you as a public around the world? What do you think about providing online lessons through your website?

Thanks for the video! It's very inspiring. I'm a competitive ballroom dancer in the US, and I want to work in the dance medicine/sport medicine field. I was wondering having what kind of education will be more beneficial, having a sport science degree or a physical therapy degree?
