Dance Gavin Dance's "The Ghost of Billy Royalton" is out now - buy/stream at dgd.lnk.to/Bil....
Lyrics:
I’m drowning in blue light
It’s a new knife
In a three legged pant
I have no qualities so don’t talk to me
I’m in love with that plant
Now I could be too nice
I could do right
I could bust out a rant
I still hate the game
But I’ll say the name
It’s Dance Gavin Dance
Ha ha
Putting all your faith in lies
I’ve been facing endless trials
Numbered all your days in kind
Days in kind
Try and stop me
Banking on the fragments of my shadow
Dropping off excuses on the way
Thank god I know the road back home
You’re a battered thief in the night
At best you’re a parasite
Thank god I know the road back home
You’re an outed spook with a knife
Go on and wallow in your spite
Every body come
Cause the lord got into me
Put me on the board of the soul shine company
Every body poor til their heart start opening (up)
Never am I bored since the lord got into me
Let’s clap for healing it
And feeling it
Alleviate pain
I’m looking at the truth of it
The root of it
Stop dragging my wings
I fear I’m not enough
Or I’m too much
Keep scrubbing that stain
I’m responsible
It’s possible
Let it process and drain
What about that Skywalker OG
JP3 Alan
Put bass down
I’ll write around it
That trust just comes with the talent
Some things you can’t replace
Hurt yourself if you even try it
Keep going and you will survive it
DGD always stay united
When it comes and goes
We stay composed and we don’t ever want to talk about it
When we’re on the ropes
We blow out shows
And you can try and stop me
The pain never stops
And the world is unforgiving
But I still wish you were here
To watch it burn with me
I’ll never forget
Our days in Tokyo, Japan
Those were the best times I ever had
I’ll carry on
For however long
Walk the path that you taught me
Until I feel your embrace
I know I’ll see you again
You’re a part of me always

Written on Facebook: "We hope you enjoy this brand new track that we are releasing NOW because we wanted to perform it live for you on the Jackpot Juicer tour. The Ghost of Billy Royalton “I made this video as a tribute to Tim just as the song is. I made sure to incorporate Jurassic park and Star Wars which were 2 of his favorite things. This is the kind of thing I would make and just share with him and my friends. But because he’s not here, I’m sharing it with you all. “ -Will "

EDIT: WOW did not expect this much of a response. Absolutely incredible how many of us share similar experiences around the same ages of our lives and how much this band has impacted not only our own but the ones around us as well. To those of you who lost someone as well, my deepest condolences, and a big thank you to everyone with kind words to say about Mason. This community has been and continues to be one of my absolute favorites. One more thing I wanted to add, after posting this comment, a Snapchat memory from 7 years ago popped up on my phone of Mason and I playing Halo together. Absolute Godshot, but I believe he heard you all and myself listening to this song so loud down here, that he heard it up there. Thank you everyone

Their best song yet, in my opinion. It really paints a mature, honest picture of grieving. Tilian: Bravado, shutting out the pain, pressing on. Jon: Turning inwards, self-care through processing the grief. Will: reminiscing, but also focused on getting through things together. Andrew: acceptance, preserving treasured memories.

Agreed. I think it’s interesting that Andrew seems to lighten up his voice sometimes and it sounds like Tilian’s low end, it makes it sound like he and Tilian are opposite ends of the same spectrum. DGD was arguably my little brother's favorite band. he passed unexpectedly on 4/21 at 26 & my entire world hasn't been the same since. i've never been as big of a fan of the band as he was but whenever there was a new release or album drop, he'd send me a link or something of which song(s) were his favorites or ones he knew i'd vibe with the most. i only knew about this because my bf told me & i started following the band's socials because i wanted to keep up with them and any new releases, tour announcements, etc., because i'll never get those messages again. i know he would've loved this, probably would've listened to it a hundred times already and started learning how to play it by now. i started crying at the outro because the lyrics ring so fucking true to me right now. i know the band is missing Tim and i miss my brother so, so much. we never got to see the world together but i'll take him everywhere with me if i get the pleasure of doing so. long live Mikey. 💜 "The pain never stops And the world is unforgiving But I still wish you were here To watch it burn with me I'll never forget our days in Tokyo, Japan Those were the best times I ever had And I carry on for however long Walk the path that you told me To feel your embrace I know I'll see you again You were part of me always"

I am so sorry for your loss. I was replying to your comment to say I also suddenly lost my bro. He passed november 2022 at 22 years old. And then I saw that your brother's name was also Mikey, like wtf. I'd take him to see a DGD show every year on his birthday month. I haven't been the same since losing him either, but I think that's just part of the deal. I saw them live at their first show without Tim, and got home to find out my friend died in a car accident. This universe is weird, and the grief is unreal. I hope you're finding peace and healing through the music they both loved! RIP Mikey

dang that ending sequence with andrews voice was a cherry on top. so glad they are adding andrews voice more into their newer songs. provides a great balance between tillians high notes and jons dirty vocals.

I feel so lucky my friend and I had a chance to see them when they toured in Tokyo 2018. I am thinking that's the time they're referencing in the outro. Such a bittersweet song, RIP Tim!

This song really hits in the feels, about 2 months ago a dear friend i worked witj unfortunately lost a battle with suicide and ive been feeling it since, this song honestly makes me feel so much better, like people understand the pain and grief. Tim is probably smiling down proudly on his buds in DGD, and I only hope Rod's getting down to this stuff upstairs too. RIP fellas.

I’m crying just over how much emotion and genuine love the guys put into this. I’ve been lucky to see DGD 8 times since my best friends introduced me to them at 14. I’m 28 now, and they’re still my all time favorite band. The community that surrounds this band is truly unlike anything I’ve seen. Y’all are the ones. DGD forever!!! RIP Tim. You will never be forgotten ❤🤘🏼

3:27 Everything said after this point brings me so much comfort and sadness at the same time. I lost my grandma who raised me like a son last monday on the 28th. She was the only person who ever understood me and had been there for me through everything. Ive been feeling like no matter what I pray for whether it be strength, peace, or release from the anger and hate ive been feeling, it just seems like none of it happens. I dont know what to pray for but I wont lose faith no matter what. All I can ask is that she truly rest in peace and for her to wait for me until the day I see her again. That prayer is the only one that gives me peace of mind. I really needed this song and its going to be one of my favourites for a really long time.
