Maroon 5 fans are the least of your worries. The over the top swanposters will come in waves. Maroon 5 has the label backings. You're just not super knowledgable of the prog/core scene. These guys actually have a long complicated history. They have had 3 different singers.

Ok now you're basically obligated to listen to more. They just did a live show on a bridge, and it's insanely good. Man of the Year. Tree City Sessions. It'll blow your mind.

oh no. if maroon 5 comes to mind, you need to do way more DGD. this song is kinda on the poppy side of DGD, they def have wayyyyy heavier stuff, and way more funk rock. they are no way like maroon 5. you have about 8 albums to go through lool. Youll understand once you do more especially the earlier stuff

If you wanna ignore Tilian then you can listen to their instrumentals. Theyve got just about every album theyve released in instrumental versions and they also have a side band, Secret Band, its basically DGD but without Tilian. They made the band because they were tired of their original singer (Johnny Craig) so they made the band to make music without him. so the story goes.. shitty move but i get it. After watching the video: They have one guitarist. At one point they did have two. Im not sure who they use to record with them but Andrew Wells tours with them. He is the lead singer of Eidola who are on Will Swan's label (the guitarist of DGD) And i have never heard one person say that DGD/Tilian sounds like Maroon 5 or the singer.... and the reason youve heard of Maroon 5 is because theyve always been mainstreams. Ive never heard DGD on the radio at all in all 15 years theyve been around. Doesnt mean theyre not good or big.... hell theyve got fans in Japan.... Dude listen to more DGD and you will see they sound nothing like Maroon 5..

Never been a Maroon 5 fan, their music is too simple for me. This group is real good. His fry vocals reminded me a lot of Eddie Berg in very good ways.

One of my favorite bands. I'm usually not the biggest fan of high vocals but it grows on you. Was hooked after I saw them live. When you get clean vocals and screams going at the same time it is unique. They always have interesting rhythm patterns.

There’s a lot to unpack in this review lol It’s pretty obvious why a lot of people have never heard of them. They’re musically busy/complicated and when have you ever heard that, paired with screaming, played on the radio? You have to actively search for this genre, but when you find it most love it. Will Swan is an amazing guitarist and writer, and you now can see his influence all over the scene, especially since we now have “Swancore.” It’s not everybody’s cup of tea, and this being a relatively mild track of theirs is a good place to start, but as you explore the discography you’ll realize the genre exists because you cannot define this band. And if you take away Jon and Tilian, the band feels incomplete, the vocals add a layer that nobody else has. Check them out more, you’ll realize they don’t sound anything like Maroon 5 (that comparison hurt my teeth for some reason 🥴), and you’ll quite possibly become a giant fan!

One of my favorite bands of all time. Them, and Lorna Shore, are 2 of my favs. the only bands i can think of that have had multiple vocalist changes and somehow managed get stronger and not lose all their momentum. Enjoying the reactions this week. Although I really really wish you didn’t Pause so much and for so long every time. Just my opinion though. 🤷🏼‍♂️

If you’re gonna check out more listen to something from their Tree City Sessions 2, I recommend man of the year, It’s their most recent live album that they made last year since COVID killed all live music. Yeah the singer you heard is definitely in the Adam Levine spectrum of vocals, at least as far as how his vocal production goes, but regardless the musicianship is top notch and it’d be awesome to see you discover more dgd. Or you could check out Secret Band. It’s basically dgd minus a clean vocalist.

I think that those who listen to a new band for the first time can give you the best kind of opinions, because they are not clouded by the fanatism of the band, and the similarities with maroon 5 are partially true, and as a fan of Dance Gavin Dance, i've never thought in that comparison, but he has a point. But I am sure that the more you listen to this band the less comparisons you will find for them, because the songs that are used for introduct the band are the most populars, commercials, easy to listen, and they're good, but when you enter to more of their songs, you will listen their other styles, estructures and interesting parts that make this band a really badass band. Anyway, great reaction, comments and I hope you to give these guys more chances... Personally, I recommend "Man of the year" (Studio version), "Flossie Dickey Bounce" and "The Jiggler", I think those songs can describe and encompass their different styles... From the Tilian era... But thats another topic

I think you would enjoy more some of the more obscures songs like Stroke God Millionere and On the Run (same album), these singles "push" more of Tilian voice to make it more commercially friendly. They also had 2 other vocalist so maybe you like more the older stuff.

Lol, maroon 5, that came out of nowhere, nah man, i think the reason dgd doesn't get as mainstream as maroon 5 is because of their experimental sounds and also because of the post hardcore roots and jon mess screams, i really appreciated your take on their instrumental part, it's one of the things that i love about them and thoroughly enjoy they instrumental versions of albums. For better or for worse you just got the dgd fandom engaged, keep it up and do another reaction! Maybe blue dream with one of the previous singers, or maybe something new like "man of the year" out of tree city sessions pt 2. Either way, loved your take on it. Would like to see more. Thanks!

Also, I get what you're saying about Tilian even if I don't agree with you. But I'm sure you have checked out more stuff with DGD after this one, and he is a one in a lifetime talent and a lot of their other songs would probably convince you too. This is a very straightforward vocal performance from him, albeit technically perfect, and he has insane amounts of variation with his voice throughout their material.

Sorry dude but you are dead wrong about the being shunned and struggling thing. What allowed them to rise to the top of the post hardcore scene that they're in is tilian's vocals because they are more accessible and pop-driven for a genre that usually doesn't have those qualities. So while they wouldn't make it as a pop band, I don't expect that anyone would expect them to. There is ZERO chance that a band with a screamer would be able to compete sales wise with a shit band like Maroon 5, however, they are doing better than they ever have since Tilian joined their band. I get the point you were making, but I don't think their intention was ever to get ahead in the pop world. Also, tillian has his own music that is very pop-centered, and he has done a lot of writing for more popular artists. I think their blending of pop into this genre is genius and I wish I thought of it myself. Also, high vocals in this music scene is very common. Circa survive, pierce the veil, cohered and Cambria, there are a ton of other examples. You haven't heard of dance Gavin dance because you are not familiar with the genre of music at all. I can respect your opinion but I think it's very misguided.

This was new to me as well and I found it quite interesting - musically. And only musically. I have heard so little from Maroon 5 that I couldn’t even tell you what their music or singer sounds like even if someone threatened me. I would like to suggest that you react to a band who I can’t find a single reaction video for - they’re called Arkaid and the song I would like you to react to is called “Metal Shit of Doom”.

I actually think they’re about as popular as this genre, and complexity, of music can get. They’re one of the biggest post hardcore bands around. Maroon 5 write pop rock, this is merely pop adjacent and just will never get traction on radio.I do get the vocal comparison though.
@harrybaggins666

Trust me when I say this. Maroon 5 doesn't over shadow these guys. These guys are in a completely lane of music then them. Just because these guys aren't as popular in the masses doesn't mean anything. As a vocalist Tillian is doing so much more than Adam Levine. They're both "rock" bands, but these guys are part of a completely different scene. They've never tried to be big. They just make great music.

I get where you come from with the maroon 5 compassion based on this song. But honestly, they're nothing like it, there's nothing similar in the music scene (as far as I know). Honestly, don't know much about what kinda music you like, but this is like their most poppy song. If you like heavier stuff you can try something like man of the year. They have a lot of song where they have syncopes (not sure how it's written) and like 3/4 song and really cool rhythm and musical sections. There's a whole genre named swancore based on what they do and specially what their guitarist does (they have a second guitarist for tours, you could check out some of the tree city sessions 2 songs which is a live recording) I would also recommend you to listen to inspire the liars or deception. I think you can really enjoy those. Sorry for any misspelling. Saludos desde España🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸.

I see where why you would compare them to Maroon 5 based on “popularity” and the vocal range of the singer but they are different. The first thing is genre and like a lot of people know, not everyone gravitates towards rock like they do to pop and even less to Dance Gavin Dance because like I’ve referred to them at times because not everyone likes them from the beginning, Dance Gavin Dance is an acquired taste. Also, the timbres of Adam and Tilian are very different to be in any way similar or the same.

Mother of God.... Maroon 5!? Tillians range is insane. High notes, high screams..hes so versatile. Mixed with Jon Mess screams they compliment eachother well. You should listen to the singer because he switches it up along with the musical switch ups. You can't judge a their songs after less than a minute. They are known for switching up the music in their songs and seriously none of their songs sound the same. So many different sounds. If you want to get the best of DGD you need to listen to "Man of The Year. (Studio and live tree city sessions 2) and "Inspire the Liars" Also......yes I'm triggered that you compared to M5... Listen to a few songs and you'll realize that they aren't the same. Jon Mess is a goddamn national treasure. Bite your tongue big man.
