Lol @ people pointing out bad lyrics as a weak point of the band... Jon Mess has always written incoherent lyrics for tracks because he just fills words in to fit with his unclean vocals... Hence why the only album that has strong lyrical content is Happiness, because he wasnt part of the band. DGD is not a sappy "sing along" band, the vocals serve as their own chaotic instruments.

Open your eyes and look north has some strong lyrical content by jon mess. “Couldn’t brace yourself in the morphine hallway, lying on the ground with your heart as a ball and chain. Message to the bird- I know your wings will be fine, spread them on the floor learning to heal will take time.”

Dance Gavin Dance has been one of my favorite bands for the last 7 years or so. I know I'll probably catch a lot of flack for this, but Tilian Pearson is my favorite vocalist they've ever had. Him and Jon together just...blows my mind. The last record was amazing, and from what I've heard so far on this one it is too. I get to see them live in 9 days. Cannot wait.

ryot4ever It's all personal opinion. I always preferred Kurt Travis until I heard Acceptance Speech. I've listened to that CD 2-3 times a week since it's release, dead serious. Something about it engulfs me in this amazing feeling. I have all their old stuff, and they've always been talented, but I'm a human being with a preference and that preference is Tilian.
@kinorobinson3876
@kinorobinson3876 9 жыл бұрын
Tilian's singing style, personally, just matches Jon's lyric structure and vocals a lot better in my opinion. The two together are really flavorful. And yeah, Mike Hunt as soon as Acceptance Speech was out, it was the only thing that pulsed through my headphones for a good few days.

Dance Gavin Dance is a great band because they sound great, but if I was forced at gunpoint to expand upon that, I'd say that they're great because they're never lazy. They always put more work than necessary into a song. Some bands just go "Okay, hook, verse, hook, verse, ship it." but DGD just seem to only put out stuff that they've put an inordinate amount of time into. This song, and many like it they've done, could very well have been three completely different songs instead of one singular and much more captivating song. Like, take "On the Run" for example. Do you really think they unintentionally dropped the rhyme "anyone" despite the "run" and "done" in the first and second verse respectively? No. It's all meticulously planned and it shows. And THAT'S what sets the band apart.

Tillian so far is killing this album with the voice of a child that hasn't undergone puberty and if course screams on point

This really harkens back to the self-titled/Death Star album for me, I felt like a lot of the songs on that album, e.g., Caviar, Me and Zoloft Get Along Just Fine, etc., simultaneously imagined love and break-ups as both literal and figurative wars between the two parties involved. That's the theme with which my perception connects and draws upon while listening to this song.

I think the cleans singer is really managing to get his flow into the band. The last album, his voice stood out way too much. Here, it sounds just right. This song is absolutely fucking wonderful.
