This group is just constantly showing me new things and are so versatile with what they do. I think Seventeen manages to be vulnerable, take risks, and not be afraid to showcase how they want to express.
Let me know what you want me to watch! Or better yet, suggest another type of content I should make that could help you learn more about dance! Whether you're an aspiring dancer, training to be a K-Pop idol, or just want to appreciate the art of dance-
I want to share my knowledge with YOU.
Hope ya'll enjoy this video!
Quick about me:
My real name is Tad, but DonKawaii/Don was simply an IGN name I created playing FF14 online, so I kinda just rolled with it. Lol. I am also a teacher, and I teach people dance. And normally, I teach my students dance through sharing my own choreography, giving people drills or exercises to build foundation and technique. and I've been dancing for 15 years mainly growing up through Hip Hop dance culture, but my foundation also includes minor areas in ballet, jazz, and tap. And how I got into K-Pop was because the main three groups, Wonder Girls, Big Bang, and SNSD. That followed with korean dramas, variety shows, and the rest is history.

trauma is all about the hiphop unit's personal traumas with mingyu's being singing (he was constantly put down before for "not being able to sing at all" which caused him to have low confidence in it), vernon's being the discrimination he felt for being mixed (his lyrics include how he dropped out of 8th grade because of bullying), s.coups' being his stage fright and anxiety (he recently took a hiatus last year to focus on it,, glad he's feeling better now), and wonwoo's being forgotten (he had a low presence which caused him to be outcasted and ignored) pinwheel was written by woozi inspired with the dream he had one day about a lonely pinwheel in a middle of the road. he said he connected that pinwheel to the feeling of loneliness and longing for someone/something to come back even if it might never happen. lilili yabbay's korean title translates to "13th month's dance" which links to the meaning of the song about dancing with someone (could also mean wishing for something/someone) but only in your dreams, since the 13th month does not exist. in summary its basically means something like "you/it only exists in my dreams". there has been a lot of theories about what "lilili yabbay" means, though woozi and the perf members said there was no exact meaning and if anything it was just a way to count the beats. the formation you see in the start of the song is actually a lily, and the elements of time, flow and almost like distortion comes into play with the "dream" meaning of the song (they were also inspired with the movements of doctor strange's time manipulation so thats an easter egg to look for)

In a way I'm proud that Trauma's lyrics come from a real place, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to really resonate with it. Thanks for the context!

@@DonKawaii1 no problem! 💕 whenever i listen to trauma i feel like they used that song to let out their feelings and turn them into a reminder that encourages them to work on overcoming that fear and turning into a better version of themselves. really good song by them

i think i remember dino mentioning that when they were choreographing lilili yabbay they took a lot of inspiration from doctor strange's gestures when he's performing magic for a lot of the individual hand moments they do. also plays into the whole concept of time and clockwork since doctor strange carries the time stone.

Woozi writes and produce every svt songs. From title track to b-sides and he has been doing so since debut. He is the youngest artist who have 110 songs under his name in korea. Pinwheel song was based on a dream he had one night.

I totally agree with the gender neutral feel of Lilili Yabbay. Hoshi has mentioned before that he doesn't make a difference between feminine and masculine choreos, it's all just dancing to him. And this clearly shows in many of his choreos, from this to his solos (Touch especially was full on a "girl crush" concept).

you SHOULD also react to "flower" which is performed by mixed units and is choreographed by the maknae, dino (at age 18 hehe) !! it's in the same album as clap, without you, and these 3

That's very true. When other artists do some sensual stuff, they look exactly sensual. But when SEVENTEEN does sensual like things, they made it more artistic and eloquent.

everything about lilili yabbay is so captivating, I will never get over it honestly since you're still in their second album/Clap era, I hope you can react to the Change Up mv by svt's leaders (s.coups, hoshi and woozi) and also Flower dance practice (it doesn't have an mv). Flower is a song (in the same album) with only six members (s.coups, jeonghan, wonwoo, the8, seungkwan and dino) and coreographed entirely by dino!

It'll be a while before you get to these songs.. but that hand choreo at the end of Lilili Yabbay is features prominently in a later song (won't tell you which so it doesn't spoil the surprise!) and reappears again in another track. It's fun to keep track of these easter eggs :D

The meaning of the song Lilili Yabbay is actually quite mythical. The lyrics insinuates dancing with someone they can’t meet under the moonlight on the 13th month. Meaning they want to dance with a special person under the moonlight, but that person is not there anymore, that’s why they said 13th month, because the 13th month doesn’t exist, so they just continue to dance under the moonlight while praying, imagining and dreaming it’s with someone -but that someone is in a different time or dimension or maybe dead. 🙂 That’s why the sound and their moves and even the visual concept are quite different in a way. 😆 Trauma is the hiphop members personal struggles and fears. Pinwheel is about Woozi’s dream he had one night. All of their songs are their personal stories. Hope you have fun listening to them.

Thank you so much for your reactions to Seventeen. I really love your insights about them and glad that you started your reactions fron their debut whicb you can see their growth as a performers and artists. SVT is my ultimate Idol group because they do not only create Music but ART instead. Hoshi always mentioned that he wanted everyone to be pleased with the visuals of their performance as well that's why their choreographies has so much details. And I'll wait to see you react to their "Thanks" Choreography because this song is very meaningful since Its about thanking the fans for all of their support and love and in the choreography they incorporated the Korean sign language of THANK YOU which I think is really really cool. Their Choreographies always portrays the lyrics of their songs and not a lot of groups do that. OMG. This has gotten very long but Im just excited to see someone diving deeper to SVT because they are a group that is really deep and has so much to offer so Thank you so much. Take Care and Lovelots. 😊

A little thing to add about the vocal team and hip hop team. Pinwheel and Trauma are great songs, but they're not the best representative of vocal unit's full vocal prowess nor hip hop unit's rapping skills, in my opinion. (Don't get me wrong, they are absolutely wonderful tracks, and two of my favorite subunit songs). You don't have to react to it, since after all you are a dance mentor before a rap/vocal connoisseur, (although I will greatly appreciate it if you do), but please check out "Habit" from vocal unit and "Un Haeng Il Chi" from hip hop unit. There aren't any mvs, but there are live footages that has subtitles and aren't subject to copyright, I believe.

since you mention about lilili yabbay seeming like it sits between masculinity and femininity... maybe you should check out Hoshi's solo song Touch (no mv nor dance perf, but there's a fancam only).. it has a girl crush concept and hoshi says he works with a female choreographer. he says its to emphasis the neutral feeling esp. with the less differentiation between men and women nowadays. (plus, it's a sexy confidence choreo!!) lol

i'm a bit sad you didn't react to lilili yabbay's dance practice video (it's the thumbnail that appeared at the end). it somehow feels different watching all that with a fixed camera angle. also, i hope you react to change up by svt leaders scoups, hoshi and woozi. these unit mvs for their 2nd full album (teen, age) actually lead to clap in this order: change up -> trauma -> lilili yabbay -> pinwheel -> clap. there are elements in the clap mv that are actually references to the unit mvs if you look closely. nevertheless, thanks for reacting 😊 edit: here's a link to lilili yabbay's dance practice kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXeydoGpmK-Zhqs just in case. you can react to it, or just watch it in your own time. and here's the link to change up mv kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJqmn2mHpd5mbM0

I'm so glad you dived in into their unit tracks even with vocal's and hiphop's. Because they could all sing and dance, we usually get comments like 'why did they even have units?'. I know that's mostly a praise of how skillful they are. But once you listen to their unit songs and watch their live perfs, you'd realize how incredible the chemistry among members per unit. And they express more in areas they shine the most. If you'd ever watch their Rolling Stone In My Room performance of these 3 songs, we'd really be grateful. And I'm excited what your reaction will be to the grand rearrangement of Lilili Yabbay :) Fun fact: S.Coups said before that it's his wish for the Lilili Yabbay (choreo/perf) be known by the world. That he hopes a lot of people would be a able to see it.

I'm happy you watched Lilili Yabbay twice. It's always a delicious treat every time. You spoke of more physical contact or inter-connectivity during the choreography (and many of SVT's choreos.) Part of the reason may be the Korean culture. I have heard they are not conditioned to remain separate and untouched by one another as we are in the west. "It's like an entirely different being of a piece." I love that quote from you. Thank you for all this.

if you take a look at trauma's lyrics, it is actually based on their real life struggles and fears. also, like what you said, s.coups was rapping quietly in this, but phew, once you get to their other songs especially the live ones, the man raps so aggressively like there's no tomorrow XD for pinwheel, woozi wrote it inspired by his dream where he was standing under a gloomy sky, on a vast field, and there was a little path. in the middle of that path, there was a single pinwheel standing by itself. he himself said that it was so sad, but he loved the vibe from it, like the pinwheel was waiting for someone. lilili yabbay (also titled '13th month's dance' based on the korean title)'s choreo was inspired from doctor strange's spell movements about time manipulation, so they took inspiration from that. the intro was representing a flower ^^ also, they recently made a 2021 version performing these three songs in rolling stone where performance team (and woozi) re-arranged lilili yabbay as they only sang the song without dancing, would love your reaction to it!
