From what I saw on the composers twitter, they make a lot of music with actual Game Boys, which is really cool! Explains how the chip tune style sounds so close to the original in a lot of parts.

You can do it - take your time and just try to keep them in a "bunch" so that you have a good chance of hitting something in case a shot misses. It's a test of patience, and you're not on a timer or anything, so take all the time you need lining up the shot. Ret-2-Go!

Now that you have the drill you can go back to one of the first underground areas and go to a new spot (I believe it’s on the left when you get there but I don’t remember exactly) and you find the 6 shells for some guy at the entrance to the forest area.
