Taemin was the pioneer in bringing an androgynous style of dance to Kpop with his iconic song, "Move" in 2017. He has no fear when it comes to breaking the standard Kpop cultural molds or experimenting with his music. This comes from being brought up with SHINee at such a young age. They are known as being the trendsetters of Kpop in terms of dance, fashion, and being extremely innovative with their music. In short, SHINee has always been way ahead of the curve and much of what you see in Kpop today has been, in some way, shape, or form, influenced by SHINee. I think, before you react to "Want", you may want to react to "Move" first instead. This song and choreo started a whole movement in Korea of variety show hosts, commentators, and just about every idol trying to cover that choreo. In fact, they are still doing it to this day. However, no one can quite pull it off with the finesse of Taemin. It literally smashed the gender-role separation in dancing in Korea. If you do react to it, I recommend you do both the MV and the dance practice together in one video. Once again, Sugawara Koharu (same choreographer as "Criminal") helped Taemin with the choreo. However, Taemin always has a lot of input into his choreos and will make it his own. You will always see Taemin having a mix of both male and female backup dancers at his concerts. He doesn't segregate, and he's very vocal about the fact that he feels men and women can all dance whatever style they choose together. Taemin has two different backup dance crews: his Korean crew and his Japanese crew. While the Korean crew is excellent, his Japanese is the best you will ever see. They are a cut above and can really keep up with Taemin and enhance his performances. Taemin is very close to all his backup dancers and staff, and they take very good care of him. Yes, Taemin is a MASTER at popping and locking. No one does it better than him. Pay particular attention to his hands and the minute details he incorporates. This is what makes him the best at what he does. Act I is the first part of his 2-part album, "Never Gonna Dance Again". just want to input little bit about the Japanese crew, basically TaeMin's dance crews made up of those best dancers/choreographers as his dance always choreographed quite difficult to dance to, which some dances might unable to keep up with him, so his dance crews are quite skillful, not to mention that in his Japanese crew, there is 1 champion(in the House category if im not wrong, but ofc he not only do House dance) in the world streetdance competition, also another guy is the world class choreographer that is student of Sugawara Koharu(correct me if im wrong), and he worked with SM artists including Boa, TaeMin, NCT etc. as their choreographer. Anyway my points is, bc TaeMin is too great, so his dancers all are phenomenal too. TaeMin really is a legend, with his bandmates JongHyun and Onew as well, I really like the diversity of JongHyun's vocal and songs too, also Onew's voice.

That made me laugh and is something I can relate to very well, I am no dancer although I would have liked to have learned...but my parents couldn’t afford the lessons back when I was a child. Yes him being very good at popping is an understatement. You need to see his FAMOUS live performance or dance practice! It's a great example of his popping. Act 1 is part 1 of his album. Act 2 is coming out November 9 and there will be another MV so please support him!!

OMG yes, he is known for his popping/locking and body control. You MUST watch the dance practice for Move for more of that unique androgynous style; throughout his career he has always struggled with the fact that he is more androgynous than most male kpop artists, and Move was him fully embracing his own individual style and promoting the idea that dance is neither feminine or masculine but just dance. For more popping and locking from him I recommend Famous dance practice, and for contemporary I would recommend his Sayonara Hitori dance practice that he does with Koharu, the choreographer (there is a version just him by himself but it is easier to see the choreo on the duo version). All three of these songs have MVs too, but the dance practices are always my favorite for Taemin because you can see all the choreo and I just love watching him dance. The title track of Act 2 will be "Idea" and he has said that the dancing is very dynamic for it. I am so excited to see it!

"Criminal" and "Black Rose" are songs from his new album "Never Gonna Dance Again: Act 1":) "Never Gonna Dance Again: Act 2" will be released on November 9th with "Idea" as title track (so we would have MV for this song)🤓 Taemin said that choreography for "Idea" is more intense than it was for "Criminal":) Taemin has a very good vocals and as a SHINee member, performing live is a lot easier for him than lip syncing (SHINee very bad at it, and it a little bit obvious when they lip syncing, so they really hate it... The word that you look for the "gentle" side of Taemin's unique dance style is "androgynous". It has both characteristics of male and female in one entity. He of course is a strong male performer on stage but he also brave enough to exude feminine energy and its tenderness/sensuality. He's absolutely one of a kind and no one can match his vibe in this style - coz yeah, no one does it nor dare to try. Like many have stated previously, Taemin used to struggle with how people perceived his looks no matter how hard hitting and manly he was in dancing (him being a great popping and locking dancer, had no classical/contemporary training at all tho I did read somewhere that he then took classes in ballet, anyone can correct me if I'm wrong). It's not only that he has such beautiful and delicate facial features, he's also naturally shy and always carries himself in such elegant and sweet manner which probably why this androgynous dance style works so well for him. It matches him perfectly from the aura, energy and his own masterful dance skills and vocabularies. I think that's why most people fail in covering his dance moves, coz they don't believe in themselves to embrace and trust that "opposite" energy. It's either "too male" or "too female", over or under dance. I really have to praise Taemin's wisdom, cleverness and his long massive experience in such a cutthroat industry that he's able to find his artistic identity and sound which separate him from ocean of idols and artists. A man of his own genre and style, not many can do that ..

Taemin started out teaching himself popping as a kid by watching performances from artists including Michael Jackson and Rain! His body control is amazing, he can literally vibrate his entire body. You can see it in his live performances of Shadow, and an earlier example is in the dance practice for SHINee’s Everybody from 2013 (he’s in the black and white hoodie). Hi, Radostina! Thank you for this beautiful review. Yes, Taemin is known for this kind of androgynous (almost feminine type of dancing) which he didn't like being known for before. But then during his Move album, he fully embraced that side of him. I can't wait till you react to Move, Want, Drip Drop, and Famous :) Yes, his comeback is composed of prologue (2KIDS), Act 1 (Criminal), and the final part Act 2 (IDEA) a total of 3 mvs and some live performances like Black Rose and Nemo. What can I tell you about Taemin, he is a king already known as the Korean Michael Jackson, I remember that once Taemin said that for him his songs and performances did not pretend to have a gender (male or female) because the music was universal, maybe that's why that you can get to notice those "feminine and masculine" traits united in their dance steps. In fact, in his work with Shinee, the group to which he belongs personally always seemed to me that he handled an androgynous appearance and of great beauty. From Taemin it is very difficult to choose a particular song to recommend, I LIKE ALL OF THEM, so any of them will be a guarantee of satisfaction. Speaking of dance since it is your field of expertise, I would like to recommend you to react to the choreography that TEN and WINWIN created by the group WayV for the song "lovely" by Billie Eilish and Khalid. The surprising thing about their work is that none of them have received instruction in Contemporary Dance and I have seen ballet dancers cry with excitement when they see these boys perform. You already know TEN from SuperM and Winwin has a specialty in traditional Chinese dance, both of them combined their talents to create this performance in its entirety. Taemin is most definitely art personified. He is amazing. His background as a dancer is popping...that is what he auditioned for SM Entertainment with. But as soon as he became a trainee with SM he then started learning different styles of dance and because he's Taemin, he excels at those as well. There are actually a lot of trainees and rookies nowadays who say Taemin is their inspiration for getting into Kpop, especially those who audition for SM. Him and Kai from EXO I believe are the two most quoted by Kpop rookies for getting into Kpop.

When he danced Goodbye for the first time, it was kinda obvious that he's not trained for contemporary dance at a young age. I feel proud of him for learning a different style in such a short time, but the best part is not really that dance itself. It's that he started to upgrade his choreography to be more expressive and artsy. And I can tell he's been improving in contemporary dance, as in his new MV 2 kids, he freestyled the whole thing. If I were to pick one dance to showcase his pure locking and popping skills, it's this one " SuperM Performance Video : TEN X TAEMIN X KAI " . He's part starts at 1:50. Professional level there.( They needed to differentiated themselves in this video, but it doesn't mean that they can only dance one style). Thanks for your reaction. He said it is influenced by Plato's theory of ideas/forms and it is about him finding his identity. And yes, the prologue (2 KIDS), Act 1 and Act 2 are connected to each other. Ah if your liking Taemin his song "MOVE" is the one you absolutely have to watch!! It literally started the "move disease" after its release because the entire song was so incredibly vibey and the dance so absolutely impeccable!! There are also 3 version of the music video! Two of which focus solely on the dance! Also if you want to see one of his most impressive dances (though they are all impressive) I seriously recommend watching "Drip Drop" ! You - you need to watch Move and Move dance practice. And Famous + Famous dance practice. And Day and Night live performance in The Suit. Taemin is less interested in the gender of his dance practices and more interested in the feeling they bring to the dance. His girl squad in Move is everything - EVERYTHING. And his Japanese crew? Fire. He finally said it himself in his last Vlive - he's not like other idols. And we love him for it. ♥ And yes, he usually sings live (because SHINee sing live). One more thing - he's self taught. I'm liking your reactions so much. I love the fact that you see all those details that only a dancer can tell. Actually as you mentioned before, in the past, he used to struggle with his identity as an artist and as a performer since he was trying to look a little more manly. There's a time when he even worked on his body built appearance. His chest and arms muscles were even more noticeable than now but he says that as he grew older, he learned to accept himself as having a more androgynous style, which has nothing wrong in the end. He actually knows that that's something that can make him unique and being conscious of that, he gave up on trying to force himself to look that way. I personally think, now we're getting to know a more mature Taemin as an artist and performer. He is also trying to get over that image of a sexy guy. Of course, he's sexy even if he doesn't want to focus on it. It's in his nature, but he's said he wants to show us a more sincere Taemin with this album. He wants to do something different from what it's already being done by other artists. So, instead of doing what is expected or known as the current trends, he's trying to work on showing his own style, and according to his own words, that's how he's trying to show his fans his real self. Btw, he's releasing his ACT 2 next week (Nov 9th 6pm KST) So, i hope you can have a look at it. Hopefully you cab share with us your first impressions about his MV 'IDEA'. Taemin is incredible and beautiful dancer he broke the gendre norms in dance cause he said there's no such a thing as dance for -girls- a d dance only for -boys- he's my favourite soloist of all the time his moves just absorb u in and u cannot stop watching him~ he is able to steal every stage. He is also the best dancer in the kpop industry according to lot of other idols~ Taemin is also something like idol of idols since the start. First he debuted in the group SHINee with his hyungs who basicaly raised him since he is in the industry for a long time he sacrificed the childhood for dancing and being an idol~ the group went throught a lot tho~ but they are still together just the members except Taemin are doing they military training >< I highly recomend u his song/dance practice for: 'MOVE' - it's more the femine style 'Good Bye' & 'Flame of Love' & 'Famous' - his japanese releases 'Press your number' 'Danger' - his solo debut also '2KIDS' and more and yes his speciality is popping ^^ also he can control every part of his body really well~

I just wrote in another video. Whatever he does, there is always his unique smooth almost feminine (MOVE song) touch across all dancing styles. He does it on purpose. I dont know similar dancer with this style.

Taemin is wearing a microphone headset, you can see the little speaker part in front of his mouth or slightly off to one side. Sometimes reaching up to adjust it slightly as he dances, although he does sometimes use a handheld microphone if he is between dance segments in a performance. Taemin will just move the headset microphone away from his mouth for that part, then move it back once done

Kpop has a long and complicated history with influences everywhere and politics on top of that. Many say that Taemin’s Move was the first time/start of gender neutral and androgynous dancing, but I’d argue that Move made it mainstream. Xia Junsu’s Tarantallegra came out in 2012 (vs Move in 2017) and has a blend of very feminine and masculine dancing and androgynous elements in the MV, including a shot of Junsu in a wig that’s cut in a typical woman’s hairstyle. I was musing on another react channel whether Taemin’s Move could’ve been influenced by Junsu as he was in the band TVXQ/DBSK under SM Entertainment when SHINee debuted and a person replied that ”DB5K has always been one of SHINee’s mentors, so it deffo wouldn’t be surprising to hear that was true”. And here’s where the politics come in. SHINee debuted in 2008. In 2010 3 of DBSK’s members sued SM Ent and left to create their new band, JYJ. Xia Junsu was one of them. As far as I know, this was groundbreaking back then. It just didn’t. happen. (And it wouldn’t happen again until THAT wave in 2014 when 3 members of EXO sued/left and didn’t Block B and BTS also sue their companies? And someone left Girls Generation. I just remember the kpop world being in flames). In response to JYJ leaving, SM Ent went to all these big tv stations that’s crucial to promote groups and artists and said ”you’re very welcome to feature JYJ on your shows, we can’t legally stop you, but know that if you do, we will never send another SM group to your shows.” And when it comes to blocking one single group or one of the three giant music companies? Sorry JYJ. And thus the JYJ gag rule was born. My thought process is basically: Junsu makes Tarantallegra, but can’t promote it due to the gag rule (and the MV is super hornt so it was banned anyways). SHINee probably remains fans/inspired by the remaining DBSK members and JYJ, even if they can’t to it publicly due to SM Ent politics. Junsu continues to play androgynous characters, some in musicals. Taemin starts to experiment himself which results in Move which brings the androgynous/gender neutral concept mainstream.

i wanna say that he did the choreo for this song but i'm not sure tbh. He did the choreo for "Artistic Groove" and he also freestyled for the "2 kids" mv. He is usually quite involved in the process and he's been working a lot with choreographer Sugawara Koharu since like, 2016-7? she did Sayonara Hitori, Flame of Love, Move, Want, Criminal and also a Shinee song. I think that working with her has really influenced his dancing style and even though you can see his "taemin" style in his early work like Danger (from 2014, choreographed by ian eastwood) or Press your number, i think he has changed after working with Koharu. also for more freestyle, you can check his live performances for two collab songs he did with other artists in a tv show, they are "pinnochio" with bwhy and "my type" with UV (uv are a comedy music group, so this song mood is funny). there you can really get to see the types of moves that Taemin loves to do. And even with choreographed songs like Move he always changes some details, he's really a dancer (not only an idol that just learns choreographies).

If you'd like to see more of his popping, please watch the SuperM TenxTaeminxKai performance video (Ten, Taemin and Kai are considered 3 of the best, if not the best 3, dancers in Kpop. Baby started with popping and locking, branched out into so many styles he combines now, even niche techniques. I totally recommend watching his pre debut dance videos when he was a kid (his audition video is almost funny with how good he was, it really gives you perspective when watching the rest of his career). But for reactions I agree 'want' is a must, the video is a straight masterpiece. For 'move' I recommend the dance practice version, it's a decievengly simple looking choreo but his ability is out of this world, heard people find it impossible to recreate. 'Press your number' LA river version is iconic as well 😘

Not to be all self-satisfied.. but I think I was the first person to mention you starting off with this one after Criminal and then going for Want and some of his other songs. You said it was the most requested, so I am glad other people said the same thing. I’m not a dancer, but when Taemin does this song, I feel it so much... all the emotion in the song really shows in the dance, and it is so elegant and beautiful. I really appreciate and loved your reaction to this. I was waiting for it. 💖💖 I hope you react to and enjoy more of Taemin in the future. Also, Taemin is known for using his hands/arms A LOT in his dancing. He had to put off his solo comeback on this album for a few weeks, because he sprained his wrist.

@@RadostinaPetrova actually Criminal and Black Rose are part of his latest comeback album. But now I say go start from: Danger - MV and or Dance practice. Drip Drop Performance Video Press Your Number Performance Video Ver 2 (there is a 1, but I prefer 2 more) Move - there is both the MV and the Dance Practice. Both are good... Want - there is both MV and dance practice. Both are good. Taemin also has a few others that I appreciate, but I don’t normally see a lot of requests to react to them, so as a dancer you might appreciate them, but maybe not react to them... I’ll leave that up to you. Haha!! I’m a pretty huge Taemin fan though, and love ALL of his stuff. I think the only person I love more than Taemin is EXO’s Baekhyun, because of his vocals. Sayonara Hitori MV - (it is in Japanese, and it will look more like you are watching a game or an anime) Flame of Love - there is the MV and the dance version. The MV is stunning. Taemin wanted to erase a line between female and male performormers. It started with his song "move" (highly recommend chance practice and lives) and he says if you're a performer and artist it does not matter what gender you are. His dances reflex this as well as his music and he chooses female dancers often
