"Menino quem te fez?
Quem te deu tanta guarida?
Quem te mostrou a beleza?
De dançar dentro da briga?" / Ronaldo Santos
Loosely translated:
"Boy, who formed you?
Who gave you so much shelter?
Who taught you the beauty?
Of dancing within the fight?"
Always thought these lines were so accurately capturing: “who taught you the beauty of dancing within the fight?”
The Cossacks had a saying “if he can’t dance, don’t give him a sword” and although in our modern and overly specialized world we tend to place these two endeavors on quite distant coordinates, dancing and fighting are close relatives, siblings if you will that share the same parents and many similarities and cross references.
I see many who like to put a very specific and monochromatic filter on fighting and/or dancing: fighters are tough and hardened, they shouldn’t dance or engage in ‘soft’ activities as they will lose their toughness (not really tough nor confident, reeks of a ‘small dick mentality’ if you think of it...) and dancers are soft and peaceful and shouldn’t touch ‘hardness’ and ‘violence’ or they will get rigid and hurt, lose sensitivity, etc....
What a load of crap!
Fighting and dancing are some of the best hand in hand activities one can engage in and cross train at, if one knows what to look for.
Of course, for the ones interested in the parent: MOVEMENT, this was always clear and obvious and so so useful!
I am no fighter and not a dancer yet I love to fight and dance and play and do so daily along with many other aspects of moving myself.
My recommendation: the things you have positioned yourself most distantly from, those are the things you fear the most and they are by far the most valuable resources for you. Don’t ‘think yourself small’ dear friends!
Much love/move to you beautiful souls
