Oh my how exciting, no plastic with the Dodol jackfruit flavour presented in a fibre weave bag, and the sweets were in corn husks. This is what type of packaging we need to see more of. Hugs from New Zealand 🇳🇿 ❤

i mean most of our (I'm Indonesian) traditional foods are wrapped with either: 1. leaves (usually banana leaf, but it can also be other large leaves like lotus or dried leaves like Palm leaves.... depending on where you are and the type of the snack) 2. corn husk (typically for Dodol) 3. non stick paper (this way or packaging also applies for our main courses) the other is presented in carton boxes inlaid with baking paper (i.e Martabak Manis) or again, banana leaves. the major downside of this way of packaging is that it cannot be kept for too long. Dodol is an exception since it is sorta shelf stable for about a week max. but others will spoil in a matter of 24 hours, sometimes less. you will see these types of packaging in local market, but you won't see much of this in airports except for immediate consumption or domestic flights.

The giant Silverqueen tasted better than the normal-sized bar because the chocolate bloomed in the normal bar. In other words, the cocoa butter melted and the recrystalized giving the chocolate that white blotchy, dull look. There’s nothing technically wrong with it but it lost some of its quality.

@giogremory - The US has a higher cost of living, so things cost more, and wages are higher. In countries with a lower cost of living, they can manufacture and sell things for less because wages are lower and the cost of products to make the gods are lower. The prices on this video are about 1/2 to 1/4 what they would sell for in the US. The average American would not be able to afford the biggest bar.

Giant candy bars are somewhat common to see in US stores around the major candy holidays like Christmas and Valentine’s Day, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen one that big. 3 pound (1.36kg) Hershey bars aren’t too hard to find, and 5 pound (2.26kg) ones do exist as well at around the same cost as this one. I have no idea how I would ever actually eat that much chocolate though. Trader Joe’s also regularly sells 500g “Pound Plus” bars that are pretty good and around $6 each.

There're quite a few kinds of snacks and food like that in Indonesia. unfortunately snacks in natural packaging (leaf, corn husk and straw) tend to have shorter shelf life. so you have to eat it immediately or in less than 3 days. But it often imparts wonderful green/leafy flavor to the food, so it's good.

hey some tips for storing that chocolate is if you have the space, the freezer or the fridge :) you can chip away at blocks using a butter knife just be careful of where you do it since the force might break weak tables. and it it develops chocolate bloom it's edible it might be a different texture and kind of ugly though. but bloom is totally safe to eat. you can also melt this chocolate down and put it into different molds and stuff if you want to try fun shapes :)

The 3kg choco looks good the smaller version is too bright. It means that the chocolate got too warm somehow. Like when you store the candy close to a heat source.

Oh I just heard that name! I wanna try it too. For Indonesian like me Silverqueen are the most popular chocolate in here. When I was a kid my teacher or mom will give me the mini size silverqueen if I get a good score in school exam. It's an old chocolate brand.

They do! If you live in a country with target, around Christmas they'll have extra large ones. They aren't just minis shoved into a big box either. Or Walmart's website sells them all year round.

I think it's a auto correct on the translation. I was looking it up and apparently it's a plant called "Pandan" and it's popular in South-East Asian foods. From what I read it has a vanilla nutty smell.

@@JoeXTheXJuggalo1 Yes. Pandanus leaves are quite common in SE Asian cuisine. I'm familiar. I just thought it was a funny typo😆 BTW, DancingBacons does his captions in English. At least he and his girl speak English in some of their videos, and the minor errors made seem to be the kind a human for whom English was a second language would make rather than an AI translator.

I guess Singapore that time isn't in very hot weather because if i put any chocolate anywhere here in Indonesia, it will be quickly melted. I never bought the giant silverqueen 😂 for beng-beng, I like the big size more, it got more caramel and tastier. thank you for reviewing Indonesian snacks!
