I like how the insect vending machine says 'ATTENTION!' in English, and then the rest of the notice (the important part) is in Japanese.

I've tended to notice that many marketing slogans in Japan seem to have a long string of Kanji, followed by one or two simple words in English - This can be seen in the attention grabber at 09:15. 🙂 I can't read Kanji to save my life (It's only thanks to _Border Security_ I can recognise the Japanese for _Exit_ 🇬🇧 ⬅ 🇪🇺 😉) but it always amuses me when I see a string of Kanji randomly followed by a single English word! 🙃

Phew, I was worried you were going to get a scorpion judging from the vending machine's appearance. But crickets are one of the more "normal" edible insects. I still wouldn't want to eat them. Thanks for experiencing it so we don't have to 😁

scorpion are actually also one of the more normal edible insects too they've been selling them for decades along with crickets and mealworms. They are long distant relatives of crustaceans (crabs, lobsters, crayfish etc) so they're not recommended for people with shellfish allergies.

It is rather hard to do but I have tried a few bugs with my grandkiddos at a museum for kids. I had a chocolate covered cricket and chocolate covered ants and BBQ crispy meal worms. Its not as awful as you'd think and if I was starving I would eat again. The bbq meal worms were actually nice and crispy like say cheetos but bbq flavor. But the crickets had a very odd after taste and tge ants were sour bits in the chocolate other than that tiny sour crunch you wouldn't know they were in there. But i drew the line at the tarantulas. Thry had derp fried ones to sample and the ooky factor I just couldn't 😳🕷

From what I can gather, the biggest problem is they're not handled correctly when you see most people eat them. They're safe, they're cooked, but being safe to eat doesn't automatically make a thing delicious. I still haven't found a version of beets I can tolerate, for example.

I'm American and I've had chocolate covered crickets (tasted like a Nestle's Crunch bar) and I love roasted meal worms. They were nacho cheese flavored but had a nice nutty flavor to them. I kinda wish there were more options for bugs in restaurants here like there is in Asian countries. Good source of protein.🐜🐛😊

Because America has a massive homeless, drug and looter/blm problem. Those types of vending machines would get *destroyed* in a matter of hours at worst and last maybe a week at best. Just look at how bad Chain stores like Walmart, CVS and Target are doing with people OPENLY stealing and being forced to close location after location. These can never work here until we fix and change the problems.

Are you kidding? A robot that made it across all of Canada was stopped after 3 days in New York. We can't have nice things because people break everything. So no vending machine empire. Societally the japanese are much more reserved, well mannered and rarely break things as americans do.
