ive been working on a mono-red variant where the only creature is Lupine Prototype, and there's six copies of Risk Factor to really lean into that shared graveyard. it also uses Brainstone, and Ignorant Bliss -- a card I had literally never heard of before making this deck!

I am now working on a mardu version with one with nothing Smiting Helix and wheel of fortune trying to fill your opponents hand to turn of the wolf but also having to be careful of dumping your own for fear of opponent using graveyard synergies

@@violetlazuli3998 so each player starts with Lurrus cat in the companion zone this allows for more graveyard synergies with the use of minimal cards 2 less wolves than what normal Dandân runs it also allows to get a card to hand. The main decision for making it mardu is lurrus though I think the wolves really want access to at least black in addition to red. The mana base leans more heavily on bouncing temple lands with there being minimal other top deck manipulation. Eggs allow you to empty your hand on your turn to attack and fill your hand to make it difficult for your opponents to attack cat also makes this more interesting especially when one of the eggs is graveyard hate. Ignorant bliss just removes the down side of the wolf for a turn so I only include 2 so it doesn’t play to similar to piston-fist cyclops and 4 one with nothing which plays in to the riskiness dumping your hand to attack being down on card advantage but also yours opp being able to cast. Multi card discard and risk factor play into the theme fighting between having cards in hand and being to attack being easier to dumb your own hand but losing on cards. Removal can play into the wolf being an artifact with shenanigans but your opp able to cast it allows for interesting play patterns. And a few cards that are utility with life gain because there are other ways of dealing damage than with just the wolves and the wolves being a bit bigger than Dandân. I do not know if I am going to build this I want to build an actual Dandân deck but also another one to play with non mtg players probably mono red I don’t know exactly what I will do with it but the wolves really feels they want access to other colors so will use another creature as the face. Any recommendations on Risky Carnivora, a mono red or any other Dandân and varieties are greatly welcomed.

33:23 Minor rules note: Wheeler was thinking about casting Memory Lapse, tapped his mana, then untapped to consider the line. He ends up not paying for the Memory Lapse and casts it anyways. He would not have been able to cast the second Memory Lapse from his hand because he would have been out of mana at that point. I think he still ends up winning, no not a major issue. Additionally, I saw a similar style game at Prerelease over the weekend. Someone had a cube of cards of which the 2 players had a shared library, individual graves, and access to one of each basic and a cycle of guildgates. Not sure if it has a name or just a homebrew style, but this made me think of that.

The black version could be Haakon, Stromgald Scourge, meaning you must figure out how to cast it from your graveyard. There could be a lot of “target player returns a card from graveyard to hand” effects

My biggest problem with “strictly worse” discourse is that by most definitions, a positive spell that can target an opponent is better because it’s versatile and in a few occasions it’s useful, but in practice misdirecting time warps is far more common than intentionally targeting opponents. Draw spells are more complicated

I think mono-green is the best other mono-colored one to work with. It's got just enough library manipulation and selection to have the topdeck mindgames. The way I would do it is with a lot of explore effects and wood elementals as the only creature to work with, and no removal at all. Put in mass land reanimation and recursion in there as well. It wouldn't be truly mono-green because it would have one red card in the deck: Mudhole

I'm pretty new to Dandan but with this and Rhystic Studies video on it, it seems like a hilarious mental puzzle game for magic players. It seems like the sort of thing I'd love but I'm not sure until I ever manage to play it. Wheeler mentioned making a red version called Benben using the Akki Hermit and my vote is for this to become a fun mental puzzle format too. The format would likely revolve around trying to own a Benben and forcing your opponent to attack into your open Benben so that you can then blow up their Benben and start getting damage in yourself. So possible includes of things like Reroute, Mage's Contest, Molten Influence and Tibalt's Trickery as the control package. Then maybe some tricksy stuff with Bolt Bend and Crown of Flames. Using Crown of Flames on your Benben with Braid of Fire or Rituals (like Desperate Ritual, Infernal Plunge, Jeska's Will, Mana Geyser, Pyretic Ritual, Rite of Flame or Seething Song) could make for the main wincon. This also opens up cards like Avarice Totem to give the person on the back foot a good use for the rituals to steal the pumped up Benben before dying to it. Perhaps adding in Crash to have a counter to the totem as well and including Great Furnace as possible targets to redirect the Crash to if you can Bolt Bend it or Reroute it and then similarly including some Forgotten Caves of Desert of the Fervents to keep some top deck manipulation involved maybe also including Orcish Librarian or Scroll Rack for the same reason. As for the forced attack mentioned earlier things like Boiling Blood, Incite or Into the Fray or maybe the way to fuel alternate targets for the Bolt Bend and Reroute is to include Goblin Assault or Daring Piracy as ways to get other creatures to attack along side BenBen and help him get past the opponents Benben ability. Other possible includes are Might Makes Right, Furor of the Bitten, Heckling Fiends, Brightstone Ritual, Lavabrink Floodgates, Mana Cache, Shard Volley, Scorched Ruins. I feel this all fleshes out to be a format revolving around the control of a Benben and a handful of tricks or an open opponent (similar to Dandan) and still has nice focus around the tricks and counter spell battles as well as how much do you risk on things like Mage's Contest or Tibalt's Trickery to try and give you the best outcome while keeping in mind the possible turn around of an opponent losing the counter battle but having enough resources to still win with the next spell that might be coming. Hopefully Wheeler or other Dandan aficionados see this and can give some feedback on if this would work as well as Dandan does.

Fun fact: Dandan's ability regarding its inability to attack unless defending player controls an island and that you must sacrifice it if you control no islands used to be called Islandhome. This was a cycle of Landhome abilities, kind of like how there are Landwalk abilities. The Landhome keywords are no longer in the rules, thank goodness.
