I saw someone point this out on the subreddit, but the stars around Aira and Jiji at 17:54 could be representations of their personalities. They're both popular and sociable people but Aira's stars are detailed and beautiful like sparkles on some fine jewelry, and Jiji's are simple and like little doodles you'd make in a notebook when you're not paying attention in class. They could represent how much effort Aira puts into to appear perfect while Jiji is goofy and unaplogetically himself, perfectly imperfect

Just the title alone, 'Otonoke' such a beautiful play on words The word 物怪Mononoke means monster, the ke part uses the same kanji as the kai in youkai, so it means weird or supernatural Oto means sound 音, so Otonoke when written in kanji would be 音の怪, meaning supernatural sound, or sound monster Or, more suitably, earworm From the post-chorus we get 瞼の裏や耳の中 胸の奥に居着いてるメロディー、リズムに 'In the back of your eyelids or in your ears' 'The melody, the rhythm that remains at the depths of your heart' Literally talking about how the song itself is designed to be an earworm, lurking around the corner close to you And it fucking lives up to that because it is goddamn catchy

What I love about that last portion as Okarun transforms is the underlying message. As he runs we see a brief cut of both Momo (from the left) and Turbo Granny (from the right) before he shifts into his masked form. It gives the impression that he is being "pulled" in two directions. For starters, his power is derived from the both of them - the power itself is from Turbo granny, but Momo's influence is what allows him to control it instead of being taken over by it. There's a neat bit of conflict and dichotomy there: young and old, progressive and oldschool, "good" and "evil." But I think it's cool that underneath it all, the main reason Okarun starts to change and become more confident in himself is due to the influence of two women in his life. Turbo Granny grants him a kind of "manliness" by turning him into this speed demon, but also literally takes it away (goodbye, family jewels). On the contrast, Momo refines that into a more controlled and "cool" ideal self. Or maybe I'm just over analyzing!

One of the weird things that sometimes happens to older viewers (I'm over 60) is that we see the "old" characters in a work and think to ourselves "That Grandma (Seiko) is one good-looking woman!". Just to be certain that my view was not tainted by dementia, I checked the Dandadan wiki which had the description: "Seiko has the appearance of a slender woman in her prime". Believe me, it feels especially odd when I re-watch movies and TV shows from my youth and realize I am now most attracted to the mothers or even grandmothers of the main characters!

I was hoping you would do an OP breakdown for this fantastic song! Couple things you didn't mention but that I have seen pointed out - the phrases "kuwabara/くわばら" and "haireta/入れた" in the lyrics are both references to Japanese supernatural superstition. Saying "kuwabara" is supposed to ward off bad luck/lightning strikes, and "haireta" is what the possessed target of the yokai Yamanoke says when she gets possessed

Great job across the board as always! Been a fan since the very first WIAOP! But I can't help but notice that you didn't mention the 2ch creepypasta "Yamanoke" at all! First, there's the tie to the Lyric "It's inside (x5)"/ "入れた(x5)" which is what the woman in the story says over and over again after being fully possessed by the Yamanoke (Mountain Spirit). Second, the name of the song "Otonoke" (Sound Spirit) being an homage to the story name. Both are in katakana as well (ヤマノケ&オトノケ). Lastly, and this last part is just my own personal interpretation, that would imply that the "dandadandandadan[...]" chanting in the song is also a result of being possessed by the Sound Spirit, or the very song itself!

0:35 Doesn't apply to me. I actively avoid looking at the screen when the OP plays because it gives me so much contextual information. When I do look at the OP, it feels like i've watched the entire show because I'm already expecting certain thing to happen in sequence.
