Hey! Auckland based architect here - just be careful using black in exterior areas. Under the trees should be okay but if it’s exposed to the north or particularly western afternoon sun, the finish never lasts due to the heat build up. Have a google of LRV - light reflectance values, super helpful to determine a good paint colour/tone in exterior areas :)

Food for thought: in the office with the desks not facing the window- 1) missing the beautiful view outside 2) may have a glare on your screens now since the natural light is projected from behind… maybe having the L shape under the window and onto the middle wall would be better or since the window wall is so long both computer can go there and the middle wall can be a place to store addition office supplied that don’t need to readily available 😁 my husband and I love watching y’all’s videos!

Because your roof is so tall in the living room, what I've learned is you can raise the curtain rod higher towards ceiling, which draws the eye upwards, which tricks the eye to make the space feel bigger as the roof is already very high it could be worth changing. Then you could have that really luxe looking curtains which are draping down. Your outdoor area is amazing. I see twinkly lights and lanterns being hung from those trees outside lots of potential for sure.

The kitchen area,where you are standing,behind you is a wall that separates the kitchen from what looks like a hallway,that doesn't look load bearing,take that out,you expand your kitchen area. And the stairs,maybe move them 90 degrees around to the right,then it narrows the stair area,you still have a closet space under the stairs,and you can take that wall out beside where the stairs come down,opening up even more space. Open plan is going to make the space look so much bigger,and bring the place into the 21st century,in a way. 😏😊

Is it an option to close off that doorway into the kitchen? You could then run all the tall cabinets right along that wall (fridge, pantry, crockery, maybe a stacked wall oven and microwave). Re painting your garden wall a dark colour, that’s a common landscapers technique to make it “disappear”. You could use a black stain, or Resene have a paint range called Cool Colour of dark paints that don’t absorb so much light and subsequently blister.
@DanegerAndStacey2 жыл бұрын
Ooh we will definitely look into the Resene range, thank you! That would be amazing in terms of being able to have more kitchen but we need that access 😭 Keep the ideas coming though, its always nice to have an outside opinion.

This video resonated with me so much. The constant feeling of being torn between wanting to travel and see the world, but also improve your home that you have to return back to after the adventures. I'd been curious about the upstairs as it wasn't featured much in the last episode. Very clever what you did with the space to create a bathroom and closet. I couldn't work out from the explanation whether you just changed the angle of the roof or if you put another dormer onto that side to create the extra space. Either way, our house is quite similar to yours and a couple of years ago, we had a dormer put on the side to create an en-suite and it was a game changer as for the first few years, had to go downstairs to use the loo/shower. We too have a couple of bedrooms on the ground floor which we loved as we only envisaged them ever being used as home offices (and when March 2020 came about, we were so pleased we prioritised these rooms) I've just had a wall-to-wall work surface put into my study and the pretty paintwork I worked so hard on has been chipped in many places so my tip would be to do a final coat of paint after your worksurface has gone in. Very excited for this series and to see what the house becomes! ❤️

It's such a strange feeling isn't it. We love nesting and creating our own space but we also crave freedom and adventures!
