The best diesel music is from a Detroit. I was around buses a lot before I started driving trucks and they all had Detroits. The 6.71s of course were my favorites and to this day 55+ years later the sounds of Detroits are always in my mind, never far removed. The Sangamo speed and tach sure brings back memories before Qualcomms & GPS replaced them. In one way I miss Ohio (I lived in the northwest part) but where I'm at now in Arkansas the old stuff only has to hibernate for a couple of months and not five. Newer drivers today don't often appreciate what it's like to drive one of these. It's boring just being a steering wheel holder like it is now.

That was a blast Dane. You handle the old girl like a pro. I love your passion! Back in the early 70's I drove an old, beat up GMC crackerbox for a short time that had airbags on the cab and a 6-71 Detroit engine. Top speed was 45 mph. I was hauling grapes pulling a set of joints. Each trailer had two bulk hinged bins on it that were tilted over with a crane lift to dump at the winery. Lots of flies and stink going on in the 100 degree summer weather. (Central Cal). Take care my friend.

Loved this video. Looking forward to meeting you and your trucks in a week. Where I grew up, there were no truck stops anywhere nearby. We were not near any interstates, but US Route 209 was about a mile from my house, and at night I could hear the trucks going up and down 209, and in particular hear the Jakes and downshifting from a hill a few miles away. I would dream about trucks non stop. When I got a little older I'd ride my bike to where I could see the trucks passing by, and dream. Good ol'days!

I sure did! About a mile in the other direction from our house was a lumber yard, and my sister worked in the office there. One of the drivers would let me go with him to make deliveries sometimes, and my love for Ford trucks was born. They had Ford F 600 gas job flatbeds for local deliveries. Sometimes I'd get lucky and a big semi would be in there delivering when I was at the yard. That was the closest thing to a truck stop we had near us

oh yes...my first truck, mine had a 318 It sounds like that is what is in yours. It sure brings back memories of the 60s for me. Thank you for the demo ride. I noticed ABF had that one. probably pulling doubles

Hey! Where does time go? Man the years go by so fast. Bet that was a jumping truck stop in its days. Would love to stop in and chat with you about your trucks but live so far in Eastern North Carolina driving a western star truck ,so i will just have to continue watching your wonderful KZbin videos, anyways thanks for the great content you show! 10.4!

That truck drives really straight for being it's ole age!

It does, I just have such fun being able to drive it and think about all the years it worked and how many drivers sat behind that wheel.

Love the sound of the Detriot's. I remember as a kid riding the Greyhound and they all had them! I liked the smell too. We had some really steep grades and they were screaming to get up them.

@@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE I lived across from the bus station so got to see them pull onto the street all of the time! I loved it.

I grew up (allegedly) on a well known bypass around the scales on the Oklahoma/Missouri border. To this day I can still remember the sound of those Detroit Diesels skirting the scales at night. Loud enough to wake you from a dead sleep. LOL!! I'd love to drop a 6V92 into something totally ridiculous just to keep that sound alive a little longer.

Thanks for taking us on the ride! The Autocar is awesome! Please pursue. Maybe an opportunity to partner with other YT’br to do a “will it run” / rescue on the Poclain excavator (Diesel Creek ?)
