The joys of coastal cruising. My Dad and his mates brought a 50ft Ocean Alexander down from Port of Brisbane to Fenwicks and they had to spend time in some ports waiting for the weather to improve. So it must be a wonderful voyage for you to make Stu. Wishing you all the best for the rest of the voyage mate

Audio might be a good way to go, optical is also very good for diesel engines. No need to divide with a two stroke. @@DangarMarine I'm in the same kind of space with our flying club airplane; two years after a new GPS and transponder meeting the ADS-B (think "AIS for airplanes") requirements, we're removing the pneumatically-powered mechanical gyro flight instruments (and associated plumbing) and replacing them with modern solid-state touchscreen devices that have the same form-factor. This means retiring the primitive 1970s-era analog electronic autopilot with a modern one too. maggieleber.github.io/bfc/resources/N19762avionics2021.jpg maggieleber.github.io/bfc/resources/panel2021mockup.jpg After I finish my next phase of flight training and the new systems ae on board, it'll be time to think about making videos again. The parallels between aviation and seamanship are very strong. And we flyers should do more to integrate video with the aircraft systems...seeing GPS and AIS data overlaid on live video is awesome.

All those screens really make Renko feel like a ship! You're doing a great job of capturing that "Man with his machine" feel, really makes me want to get out on the water. Could you show how you make your Yerba Mate? The only time i've seen it, you needed a special gourd cup.

@@DangarMarine yeah, many IR thermometers have emmisivity setting, which can help you to correctly measure temp. of shinier surfaces, like stainless, etc. By default emmisivity is set to 0.95 and good for most of the surfaces.

he can stay underwater for HAlf A DAY!! how can he do that? thats amazing. this trip is really amazing. I didnt realize how cautious you have to be when doing a trip of this kind. Thanks for taking us all along! oh how is Renko doing as a sleep aboard?

Thanks Earl, it is an amazing amount of time to hold your breath for. Very slow heart rate! Renko has been fine to sleep on. The bed could do with being about 100mm wider, might do that in Bundaberg too.

You have so many gadgets, out of 30 years of owning boats and doing long ocean-going trips, I have had a boat with a GPS chart plotter once and have used it zilch. Have always used a paper chart as a primary, at least I know it is my fault if shit goes South.

stu just for future reference laptop screen replacement is simple! far easier than carb rebuild lol if you can source a replacement screen it is 20 min to do the job its 2 connectors 1 power for the light and 1 for the screen . the worst part of the job is getting the plastic bezel off without breaking them . im guessing the shop charged you 200 in "labor" and depending on the screen 50 -250 and it is not worth paying for that in my opinion. thanks for the vids

@@DangarMarine like an outboard the worst part of the job is getting the plastic covers off. i was serious about 20 min job with 18 of that being the plastic. and this isnt rocket science so theres no reason for the cost of labor they charge ,,ive replaced screens on laptops without training or manuals after the plastic its retaining screws..depending on screen 1 or 2 fluorescent light connectors and 1 ribbon connector for screen controller...usually wifi antenna in there too but not on screen but inside back lid . as for the screens if its broken you need the make and model number on the screen ..usually backside and an internet connection lol smaller older screens as low as 20$ big touch with high resolution get pricey.. its the same for flat panel tvs btw so dont throw those out until you check panel price lol .. i guess in short just try its already broken and you learn in the process ..computers arent hard just different
